Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

Good morning! Have finally done some work off my admin list, still two items to go but I feel the urge to sort through stuff coming on again, and it's best to take advantage while it is there!

One load of laundry in now, shopping list written for later, may count up the books if I'm feeling brave. DH wasn't as horrified as the amount as I was, just amazed that they fitted into her very small bedroom (which is still overcrowded!).

Red lentils - me and DD love them too, I used to make them for her a lot when she wasn't eating much red meat for the iron. Now lentils (in tomato sauce) and soup-sized pasta is a good meal for brace tightening nights, no chewing. I'll be making it next week actually!

Catch you later ladies!

I have just bought a cardboard colour in igloo (like a play house kinda thing!) from hobby craft. Reduced to half price £7.50 and if you sign up for a new account you get another 15% off!

Bowerbird5 · 08/11/2019 16:09

Been to oestopath. Feel a little sore but better as I got walking. Had lunch with an ex teacher from school. Sweet potato soup. Yum.
Bumped into a mutual friend as leaving.
Bought some more cake ingredients as found baking good for me.Years ago used to bake in the middle of the night for stress release.
Half way through second Christmas cake when I realised we ate two eggs with our fish cakes last night. DP said he forgot to buy bread so he is dispatched for eggs, lemon and bread.
Our vacuum is playing up so went to mention it to the family firm we buy our electricals from and he showed us a bargain stick dyson whilst discussing the other one.He buys 50 when he gets the option and instead of selling them at £50 more he passes the discount onto his customers.I have just bought a & for £249. He is going to fix the other one and if it isn't right will add new part as it is under guarantee. I wasn't caught by him as we discussed buying a stick one about 6 months ago. I was actually going to buy the !0 so I have saved myself some money. Well actually I saved myself a lot of money as DH came into shop and paid for it. He had just spent his vouchers from work in M&S on clothes. So he gets £100 pounds of clothes and I get a vacuum cleaner...and i am pleased! It is on charge now I can't wait to do the stairs. It is the little things girls. The little thingsGrin
SC I meant to say that poor family. How sad. I made a cake for someone in our village who was bereaved recently and she was delighted. I always think it is something they can give visitors even if they don't feel like it themselves. It means one lesss thing to worry about.

ChicCroissant · 08/11/2019 19:29

Let us know how the stick vacuum goes Bower, they seem to be very popular at the moment.

Literally filled one binbag with plastic tat that has come off the front of many magazines years ago, and started on another - DD has been fantastic at letting things go still no soft toys though and DH has taken them round to the church hall. We can take more tomorrow morning if we sort anything tonight, but it's good to get it out of the house. Can definitely see a bit more floor in DD's room, but it did seem worse today before it got better! Keeping the long-term aim in mind though.

You sound as if you are doing very well decluttering Chic! Bower, I meant to say, we (actually DH as I am an awful cook) make Delia’s classic Christmas cake every year. Love it and I love every year reading the same familiar words of the recipe Smile.

Thanks for links Ghoulette (still love the name change Halloween Smile).

Flying:-
Did some laundry
Did some other bits but not enough as usual.

Ghoulette1740 · 08/11/2019 21:11

Working away in work when the familiar call came through from the school "Are you Mrs Ghoulette? Ghoulette Junior is feeling poorly. He's had two puffs of inhaler but is still not well with the cold." Scrambled husband because he had the car and we swapped over when I got home to allow Mr Ghoulette get to a meeting. Worked at home for an hour - only half day today. Ds had been feeling much better this morning but I guess it's not gone. Was thinking of you SC with your dash this week!

It's cold here tonight.

Well done on the stick vacuum Bower! Glad you can see the bedroom floor chic! well done. Plastic tat is just awful and it always seems to take on some mythic value to magazine owner. None of the toys ever work.

Chez Ghoulette is not tidy at all but we all have a duvet day tomorrow so we are going to blitz it. I'm off for a bath and then we are going to watch the first season of Spiral (Engrenages) - the French cop show. We have seen it already and are avidly following season seven.

I've just looked up that igloo ive - what a find. A colour in igloo!! A safe space and a mindfulness activity (colouring in) all in one. Be great for a playdate. (Due they come in adult sizes?!)

ChicCroissant · 08/11/2019 21:16

Someone recommended Spiral to me this week (I don't watch much tv though so haven't seen it) because she really liked it.

Ghoulette1740 · 08/11/2019 21:17

You're welcome toostressy. I'll keep to Ghoulette for November but I'll probably have to come up with a Christmas name then! I quite like Lisette.

Christmas pud is my thing. I love a homemade one.

Anyway I'm off to Paris to see what les flics of the North and East Paris Regional Police Department (2nd DPJ) are up to.

OP posts:
Ghoulette1740 · 08/11/2019 21:20

It can be a bit grim chic. I don't speak French (have a smattering) so I like to listen to the language but God knows what I'm picking up linguistically. I like the interplay between the police and the judiciary. There is a fantastic investigative judge called Roban who is very erudite and a couple of not bad looking cops/lawyers

I like Lisette. I think if I met you I would call you that.

Spiral is fabulous. My problem though is that I have seen bits of various series of it and really now would need to start watching from the beginning again as I got completely confused. Also (and I realise this is going to sound terrible) I hardly ever watch subtitles stuff on TV. I actually love it; I particularly love that bit where you realise you have forgotten a programme is subtitled as you got so drawn into it Smile. It’s just that I hardly ever just watch something. I’ll be seeing on badges, or folding laundry, or sending a text etc so I am not good at shows needing complete concentration.

I might put something on for half an hour before bed but also need to sew on a Brownie badge so it can’t be anything too taxing.

Spiral is really great though.

Sorry for the ramble. As you were...

TooStressyTooMessy · 08/11/2019 22:11

Hope your DS feels better Ghoulette

Bowerbird5 · 08/11/2019 23:24

Ta Das

Made my bed. Oh Ned ironed my sheets yesterday and they felt so lovely when i went to bed, i had a great nights sleep and they felt so soft this morning I am going too ask him to iron them every week now.
I haven't done them for a while but it does make a difference.

S&S bathroom.
wiped kitchen worktops and put plates away. washed pan for milk. Plus breakfast dish, mugs.
App. in town. Shopping needed.
Cleaned out two handbags.
Make Christmas Cake for DS1.

Bowerbird5 · 08/11/2019 23:26

Bless him. It was very cold here today. I was making sure I had my inhaler too. hope he feels better tomorrow. Some staff don't realise that the kids would be better to take it before they go out and not wait until they are wheezy.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 08/11/2019 23:53

foxessocks · 09/11/2019 07:50

zoo that's great news about your ds!!

Ive my brother had a wedding cake of cheese , it was amazing!

I don't like fruit cake either and dh loves baking them which is annoying, why can't his signature bake be a chocolate cake! I do like mince pies though and if I do say so myself I make really good mince pies Grin

In flying news yesterday I almost finished decluttering dd bedroom, just got her chest of drawers and a couple of shelves left. She parted with a few more cuddly toys but refused to get rid of her Peppa pig toys i'm secretly relieved she isn't too grown up for them!

Also took three big bags to the charity shop, another bag to preschool, more books to the school and more stuff on eBay. And yet we still seem to have so much stuff! Confused

Got to tackle ds room today and our bedroom
