Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Lots of ironing done today here. The pile is so vast that I think half of it needs washing agin no, I'm not postponing it in any way

DH got away OK this morning, DD and I are about to snuggle into the big bed and there's a bit of wine left for me so sleep well fledglings and I'll see you tomorrow.

foxesit's lovely having choices for meals again!!little ones had pasta with some ham I'd left over from lunch tossed through a cheesy sauce with green beans and cauliflower.i had homemade sweet potato wedges with garlic and thyme and fish fingers😋😋😋😋

DD mouth is sore, but not agony-only had top wires tighten.elastics are off this time

Trip to docs with lil zoo sees us with meds for potential silent reflux as cause of persistent sore throat.no surprises there as dd2 has it.one month trial and then go back if not helping.big capsules hour before eating, gaviscon type liquid after/before bed.he did ask if she can swallow pills(dd2 couldn't and just had the liquid)but lil zoo knocks back things easily!!

I'm awake as got pain in top right arm.if I lay on it/pressure on elbow burning pains in it...had it two nights back.couldnt pick up anything next day etc til teatime then seemed better.picked up something heavy this morning and the buggers come back with a vengeance.thinking might trap a nerve as it's hot sharp pain.i cannot get comfortable and keepwaking up with it as move in sleep.tired and grumpy!!

Bowerbird5 · 09/05/2019 07:15

Ouch it sounds painful zoo.

Slept like a log from just after 9. Means I am back on track with my meds. Still feel a bit dopey.
Great that you have your new stove zoo. I discovered how yummy and crisp pastry is made in.

Must get cracking. Need to be there by 8:30 am.

Morning all!

glad appts went well for dd2 and Lil'Zoo

Bon courage Bower sorry you are facing another day in such a stressful environment. Everyone leaving and the patchwork cover sounds so fraught. And not knowing what you will be doing each day and not being able to plan must be a nightmare, and that's without the snidey people! Hope you can hang in there so you get to leave on your terms

Hope you have whipped the ironing pile in to shape Chic Wink and good luck with the extra laundry that potty training generates Foxes

Hope your DD Caglet enjoyed Manga workshop Caglet

Cherry waves to I've Honu Lisette Toostressy Mog Shannara and to all newcomers Lou Rodentattack and Barbara [how are you getting on?] and anyone else I have missed!

Sorry missed Expletive and Hills there too and no doubt others!

DD is at home from school with a bad cold which she would normally battle on with (as she did yesterday) but her eyes and nose are streaming so badly she can't see and she has massive headache which hurts when she moves. She woke me up in the night she felt so ill poor thing so, to take her mind off things, I spent the hours between approx 2 and 4 am listening to the similarities between Dutch and Swedish, who knew? Her timetable on Thurs is very sport heavy so at least she will be only missing two academic periods so it could be worse.

Right, very late up, and DH away so furries are crossing their paws and looking at me with pleading eyes. Had better take them out! Have a good one everyone!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 09/05/2019 08:35

DS would enjoy Bollywood dancing I think.

Workshop was good, I heard lots of giggles from the room! It was in this hidden yard which has a collection of studios hidden away, bizarre and lovely place. DD enjoyed it despite being worried about not knowing anyone. I found it more difficult as I reeeeally didn’t fit in with the other mums Blush very different scene down there! I was still brave and talked to people but I was very glad to get back home to my bunch of misfits :o

Trampolining this morning, I have to take DS and the baby as DH is taking DD to hospital. She hurt her hand last Thursday and it is still painful.

Shadycorner · 09/05/2019 08:40

Oh no, hope DDCaglet is ok Cag

OP posts:
ChicCroissant · 09/05/2019 09:56

Meh for the painful elbow zoo, poorly DD SC and DD's hand Cag. Hope work is a better day today Bower.

I have taken DD to school, posted three cards, done a little shopping and had a croissant and a coffee (still drinking the coffee). Plans today - cleaning, tidying, filing.

After my success at dropping bags at the jumble sale last month, I've been keeping a bag in a cupboard and putting anything outgrown/unwanted in there for the next sale which is coming up (they have them regularly). It is one of those things I hear about other people doing and by heck, it works! Just need to make sure it actually leaves the house regularly.

Catch you later!

Cagliostro · 09/05/2019 11:31

Oops. She’s fractured her thumb. It was super obvious on the x-ray. She’s back at St John Ambulance today where it happened last week and she can tell them look you were wrong it’s not just a sprain 😂 she’s got it in a splint. Poor kid.

I feel so guilty we’ve been telling her no it’s fine St John checked it over... ooops

Shadycorner · 09/05/2019 11:43

Aw bless her *Cag 🐻. To be fair you'd think St J's ambulance would notice! Hope she isn't in too much pain anyway x

Shadycorner · 09/05/2019 11:46

Ta for much needed decluttering tip Chic! I know some people keep a permanent decluttering bag in the boot of the car for that reason, but that would mean a stack of stuff piling up by front door in my case. Far better hidden in cupboard!

OP posts:
foxessocks · 09/05/2019 12:30

Oh yes the boot full of stuff Grin I have stuff in the cupboard, old toys and things to go to charity shop and then a bag in the porch for old clothes . Every now and then I take a load of stuff and think how good it feels then it takes me ages to do it again!

I have a friend who very kindly keeps giving me stuff her ds has grown out of but my ds doesn't fit it yet so need to find a home for all that now . He has more shoes in size 8 and 9 than he will probably ever need! I'm very grateful though honestly!

Got absolutely drenched picking ds up from nursery, so another change of clothes Hmm

Ta da
School run / nursery run
Went for a run (in the brief window of sunshine)
Work

Got basically everything still to do but main aims are to make cakes as my dad is coming over this afternoon and he does like a cake. My mum is on holiday so he's probably missing her baking! Then have a tidy up before he arrives. Then all the rest.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/05/2019 15:11

Oh no cag hugs for poorly caglet thumbs
SC hope DD feeling bit brighter now

I've had text pain from teeth us kicking in for dd2
Bastarding arm is verging towards excruciating surges of shock like pain...I literally am holding it slightly bend at wrist.cant let hang side of me or shoulder spasms, bent aka in a sling elbow burns and bicep tricep complain very painfully.cant hold arm out in front of me.doing anything verging impossibleSad

Dr Google says sprained tricep if trapped nerve as only teeny bit swelling,no hot/ red bits it's watch and wait and if no better tomorrow maybe ring and speak to nurse at practise

Tada
Turned scarlet get dp help me put on trousers and shoes

Get dd2 help make pack up as can't spread breadSad

Took D's CAMHS

Tip run of junk generates from boy dungeon- clear out, added busted hoover and a decrepit fan that doesn't work along with a duvet that's past repair/laundry resurrection..

Picked up lovely rolls for lunch
Supervise dp load wash machine/dryer

Try and get comfy/stop moving suddenly in response fresh surges of pain shocks...

Dp now gone to collect lil zoo(on foot)

Popping Asda George after-school with dd2 her school shirts are gaping at bosom and throttling her.shes gone in with a loom band looped thru the button hold to put button thru so as not to completely asphyxiate once adds (clip on) tie!!
Will see can get cheap/light hoover whilst there and in car to lug it back

Will need to heavy supermarket shop tomorrow(potatoes, tins, milk, cat food) whilst dp off and trying to be helpful

He's offered help me shower and wash my hair laterShock

TooStressyTooMessy · 09/05/2019 20:51

Oh dear , glad you got her thumb seen. zoo*, sounds as if you definitely need that arm looking st if things don’t improve. Glad docs gave you a plan for lilzoo.

Yes I try to have a bag on the go for charity Chic. As you all say, it’s the getting it out of the house that is the problem Grin.

Big wing flaps to everyone else.

Bowerbird5 · 09/05/2019 21:47

Yeah I agree it is getting it to the charity shop. The nearest one isn’t open until 9and is shut by the time I get out of school. I don’t go into the city on my day off or Saturday. I do on Sunday but of course it is shut. I leave it in the car but then DH not realising takes it out. Going to make an effort this week. Realise I have a box of GCSE books and CDs which might be useful to some kids some are as new.

Poor caglet’s thumb. Ouch.
DD says the reason why I don’t get on with the neighbours is because I am very different to them...then added ...in a good way! Think that was a complement.😬

Thanks for the wishes chic. Unfortunately it didn’t pan out that way. Hysterical giggles and later I was very near tears. Assistant Head has spoken about it. KS1 staff are near to cracking. They had an awful day yesterday. I won’t be in there tomorrow. I went to bed at 9:25pm. I am so exhausted. Mentally and physically.

I have done nothing except chop veg for DDs curry. I swept the kitchen floor and took her shopping at mini M&S.

Struggling to keep my eyes open.

Lisette1940 · 09/05/2019 21:47

I hope that ddcaglet and zoo recover from their arm ailments. Must be very frustrating.

Got Flylady PDF of control journal pages as never bothered setting one up and need extra kick up backside help.

Bowerbird5 · 09/05/2019 21:49

Oh and it is 9 C.

Bowerbird5 · 10/05/2019 05:55

I would get that looked at zoo or you might be sorry at the weekend. Glad that you are getting support from DP.

Good morning all!

Aye Zoo get thee to a medic! Great news about your dp stepping up! Has he been reading the thread? Wink. Well done re: junk run!

Hope you find the control journal motivating Lisette! I shouldn't be the one to advise about tech as I have no clue, but be careful about Flylady site security if you are downloading.

Sorry work was so hideous again yesterday Bower and glad you are off today. Hope you can relax a bit today and are able to delegate the disposal of the decluttering bag!

Hope you had a lovely time with your dad yesterday Foxes!

DD still ill with hacking cough. She might try and get to school for part of the day but has gone back to bed again for now.

Have a good car/purse decluttering day!

Thanks SC. I bought it for a few shekels and downloaded it via a link in the receipt area. Kaspersky Internet Security didn't kick up a fuss so I think it's okay. You are right though.! I don't want to wind up with another computer problem!
