Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Good morning all! Hope everyone is ok!

🌼While I think about it, is it more useful to post the launch pad link or the daily flight plan? Does anyone have a preference?

Rather ashamed to report that yesterday's intentions of "start diet again and moving in May" in reality turned in to "drive around a lot and eat junk food" Blush. We don't actually being eat a lot of junk food as a rule but chauffeuring teenagers around definitely raises your quotient!

Took DD and friends to the country for the afternoon yesterday where they did group project work interspersed with 20 mins bursts of walking, bicycling, skate-boarding and playing badminton. Yep, 'tis the dreaded season when all group and individual project work has to be handed in before exam prep starts in earnest and all teenagers across the country turn in to revision zombies.

DD has to hand in two individual projects on Friday morning and let's just say, despite various warnings from DH and me over the last few months that's she's taking it close to the wire, she may be up all night tonight working. Oh dear.

Lovely to have you back Shannara! I'm with you re: diet and exercise!

Lord that takes me back, adore rice crispy cakes Foxes! Smile

How exciting about Cagletini nearly speaking Cag!

Toostressy and Foxes I used to be really slim and it's only in the last five or six years that I've got rather large, so I know what it is like to be both! I must be honest and say I do envy you your slim figures but equally understand it can't be easy if you are constantly underweight. Remember that Flylady wants us to take regular breaks so you ARE Flying properly if you sit down from time to time! And it's not a thread derail at all as body clutter is included in general clutter!

Waves to Mog Honu Chic and everyone else!

Loads to do after yesterday's "holiday" and DH has left on the second of his three day trips this week, scattering the usual trail of cables, papers, half drunk cups of coffee behind him...had better get tidying.

Haven't done any ta das yet and loads to do (including writing an article for work) so had better get on! Have a good errand day everyone!

Eek re: doing the plank. I could no more do one nowadays then climb Mt Everest!
DD used to do them endlessly at ballet training back in the day, they looked like torture!

Grr I just lost a whole post Angry

Basically I was saying thanks sc for links and the kind words! And yes rice Krispie cakes are so simple and so delicious!

  • you are not even to think about attempting the plank ATM!
Shadycorner · 02/05/2019 13:34

Grin Not much chance of me doing it currently Expletive tbh, unless someone has a good steady winch to lift me off the floor! Grin. A tie-your-own shoelace competition without saying "oouff" is more my level tbh Blush

OP posts:
Lisette1940 · 02/05/2019 14:19

No planks for SC definitely. Just attempted one for a few seconds and they are tough.

Breakthrough with modified push ups while on bent knees. If I put a cushion underneath my face I can do a few. I think I was worried about losing strength and breaking my nose.

foxessocks · 02/05/2019 14:24

Ds is potty training - he has gone from zero interest to getting all but one wee in the potty today Shock I haven't even bought him any pants yet! He is still insisting on putting a nappy on in between though.

Aww well done littlest fox cub! ⭐️

It’s been a very mixed day here. Got up and voted while the others went on to trampolining. Then got a message from my friend saying that the hall wasn’t booked so no trampolines. Everyone has gone for nothing. It is I who organises it (not particularly out of choice I might add. The previous person said they were stepping down over a year ago and not one other person offered) so I was really upset. I notice (too late obviously) that they in fact didn’t invoice me for today. However I am dead certain I did put it on the original form as I was so careful precisely out of fear for this sort of situation! So by the time I got there I was upset and burst into tears on DH, then my friend and the (lovely) coach. So embarrassing on all counts. Nobody was bothered, I’ve refunded those who were there (am assuming the coach will quite reasonably still charge) and I’m not really out of pocket even. But. I just hate it when these things happen.

Anyway. I then went to yoga as planned, it was nice but a bit boring TBH :o some of it was difficult so I’m glad we picked the gentle class.

Then found out the evil cow bag woman (those who have been here a while may remember the awful trouble me and DD had culminating in the worst holiday ever) in fact hasn’t got her DS a school place yet, so there is the added anxiety of wondering what they’re doing, I thought those days were gone. Not that it really affects us day to day as we have plenty of friends and activities that are safe from the evil ones! But still. Disappointing.

I am home now and not especially looking forward to an evening alone with the baby and my own anxious thoughts. There will be takeaway though that’s for sure.

foxessocks · 02/05/2019 16:16

cag Flowers poor you that sounds like a difficult day , enjoy your takeaway and if I was one of the people doing the trampolining I wouldn't have minded a bit, I'd just be grateful you were doing any of it in the first place as you say, nobody else volunteered!

Cagliostro · 02/05/2019 20:16

Aw thank you.

My takeaway was a bit meh to be honest but I have a box set and a can of archers and lemonade with my name on it :o living on the edge today.

Shadycorner · 02/05/2019 21:42

Sorry your day was a bit crap Cag! Yes, Foxes is right, if anyone complains, you can always offer them the job!

Well done to Foxcub! Smile. He seems to be taking it very seriously Smile

Hope full-length cushions allowed Lisette Wink

Mixed day here too. Enjoyed the writing bit. Chore bit not so much. Did some batch baking and x6 loads of laundry and major supermarket shop. Want go to bed but dd is still studying and says she has about three more hrs to do Shock. Feels wrong to slope off and leave her . DH is only just back off the plane having had a very long day so (understandably) has no such qualms.

I have overeaten this week, and not much moving either (unless you count driving around doing stuff!). So looking forward to a long weekend and a glass of wine tonight

I've had stress headaches for the last few days, some slightly stressful stuff going on after a bereavement but I think it's improving so yay for that.

foxes how exciting for potty training - I hope it continues this well, clever boy!

cag don't worry about the trampolining, I bet the ones that turned up were just glad they didn't have to deal with all the admin!

Cagliostro · 02/05/2019 21:51

Ah thanks lovelies ❤️ Tomorrow is a new day. Off to the local museum for the first time, it had a massive move and revamp!

Shadycorner · 02/05/2019 21:55

Sorry to hear about the bereavement Chic , I hope you are ok Flowers

I think I’ve realised alcohol and me don’t mix at all. Aches have set in while drinking (a measly can). WTF.

Hugs chic x

Shadycorner · 02/05/2019 22:26

I've found menopause to have the same effect Cag sadly. I used to enjoy moderate wine drinking but now if I have more than one and a half glasses, I feel utterly wretchedly. Same with coffee! It's a bummer!

Thank you ladies, we are fine. Slightly unexpected - person had been ill, but suffered surgical complications. DH spent a lot of time with this relative when he was younger, so it has hit him a bit.

Sorry you had a shitty day yesterday Cag and Flowers for you and DH Chic.

Won’t be around for a few days so happy flying all and catch up with you soon.

Shadycorner · 03/05/2019 09:09

Take care Toostressy!

Quiet on here currently. Hope everyone is ok.

DD went off to school jubilant this morning having finished her two projects in the early hours! She will be bringing some friends back with her this afternoon so can relax a bit then hopefully... .

DH left at crack of sparrows again for third day trip of the week (by train this time). Lovely cleaner is here doing a home blessing. I am (need I say?) doing the boudoir.

Have a good one everybody!

Morning folks. Feeling a bit achy this morning so we are getting the bus down to the museum.

I’m so annoyed at myself for disorganisation on two counts. One, for never being organised with home ed stuff. I really can’t describe how much time is wasted saying things like “well your maths sheets have to be around here SOMEWHERE”. Two, I’d been avoiding putting Cagletini in this gorgeous dress much in case it got ruined... just put it on her and it’s really quite small now :( I can pass it on to someone along with a few other 18-24 bits that are on the smaller side, so I’m pleased about that (makes it more worthwhile sending, I’ve been procrastinating so badly about the courier thing that I had to take out clothes that are too small for the recipient) but I’m so annoyed at myself.

Just got to rush and get ready now so we can get the bus!
