Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now.

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows ( but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them ):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Hi,
Wow you have been chatty I will try and catch up later. Love the table ref.

I have been away for a few days which has been good to have a break from school and home. I was working but not as hard as there was only 8 people to feed. Lots of banter.
Came home and DH had tidied up a bit. He is away now walking.

Yesterday I got all my washing done plus bedsheets. Sorted two bags and three large files for school - declutter. Went to school for three hours to work on a report with someone else. Tidied classroom. We are on half term.

Today.

Washed up and tidied around kitchen . Drying sheets on Everhot.

Tidy sitting room.
Need to vacuum downstairs.
Tidy kitchen.
Tidy tables.
Ironing.

I am out this afternoon with a friend who is picking me up at 1pm and driving up to Scotland to a garden, open as a private visit with her gardening club. Hope it doesn’t rain. I should be in my garden! Lovely of her to invite me. Better get cracking.🤪

Welcome newbies.

ChicCroissant · 29/05/2019 11:05

Welcome PutsFoot, good to have you with us.

Had breakfast (bacon & egs) here and cleaned up. Need to have an ironing binge today and do more never-ending laundry before we are away at the weekend. Need to get all the school/work stuff ready before we go so I'm not behind on Monday!

As we race towards the end of the month, have we decided who is doing June? I am available if no-one else fancies it throws battered hat into ring

I do understand the feeling of wanting to just start afresh, PutsFoot. It does make you go through the piles. I am hoping that a weekend in a spartan hotel room will encourage me to fling when I get home! But before then, the dreaded packing ...

Catch you later!

Shadycorner · 29/05/2019 11:32

Chic that is really kind of you about next month. If no one has any objection though (please speak up if you do) , I would be happy continuing to do June (although you'll be pleased to hear I won't be wittering on as much as I have on this thread because have more practical stuff on) and thereafter I will be pretty much absent for July & August. And starting from Sept, when I will hopefully be back to full fitness, I need to be on Mumsnet a lot less generally! (YY I know you have heard that one before Blush but post op convalescence got in the way recently! Grin)

Happy packing (if that's not a tautology)! And enjoy your weekend away!

Wow in return Bower I always admire how much you manage to pack in to your life in terms of working, family, volunteering (by the sound of it) and socialising! You are always doing something interesting, dashing hither higher and thither! It's a great art to achieve that balance and great to read about it! Waves to HennyPenny!

Thread wouldn't be the same without your phone's eccentricities Zoo Grin

Hope you are not too tired today Cag ! Although I'm sure you are ifyswim!

I am dithering about running between office and home doing laundry here and admin there. Probably not very efficient but it breaks up the tedium!

Glad DD2 is having fun!

I’m zoned out in front of Netflix as the others have gone to Asda. I’m still going to escape later though. I can’t see me getting much done today, I feel like a zombie.

ChicCroissant · 29/05/2019 12:36

I'm quite happy for you to do June as well SC Grin, no complaints here!

Folded laundry this morning, attempted to treat stains on DD's brand-new jeans and hope to pass any off that don't come out as part of the distressed-theme of the jeans.

Just about to have lunch, play a Wii game with DD and then go out for a coffee later. DH has kindly been shopping this morning.

Hope you are getting a bit of rest to ease the pain Ive Flowers

Cagliostro · 29/05/2019 13:09

Oops. Just had a phonecall from the GP that I’d totally forgotten was happening. Was a bit pointless really as I’ve already self referred to Early Help Team (who will put us on a bunch of parenting courses to prove that we deserve CAMHS help Hmm). Must read my friend’s angry letter and send that off. It’s addling my brain though. That plus DLA crap is doing my head in.

Lisette1940 · 29/05/2019 15:15

IVEgottheDECAF · 29/05/2019 15:19

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/05/2019 17:29

Can't you get one the kids dump laundry into basket and you sit and sort it on sofa/at table if you must do stuff I've?
Since I Jeffers up my shoulder I drag one handed from machine to basket.kick across to drier and shove in.pull out and kick to living room sit on sofa and fold...

Tada
Sat taking notes from Instagram feeds of recipes Ive drooled over saved in last week or two

Think a vegan chocolate cake may be baked tomorrow as we have no eggs
I may also make some Indian spiced lentil croquettes for dd2,or vegan "pulled pork" in burger bun...

Bowerbird5 · 29/05/2019 18:26

Just have the dining table to do.

🤗thank you SC. DH shakes his head sometimes when things clash. I guess I just love life. No one has ever complemented me,so thank you.

Had a lovely afternoon out with my friend to a remote garden. I bought two pots and a plant. It was my friend’s garden club so for a fiver we walked around the lovely garden, bought some plants and had afternoon tea.

Really chuffed that I got the ironing board out when I got home and did the washing straight from the line. I also did a dress and t shirt from upstairs while watching Four in a Bed.

Mortician 🤔wonders what is going on at the zoo.😬

Off to make something to eat. Might be boiled eggs.

HillsBesideTheSea · 29/05/2019 20:21

Morticians don't have so much fun as pathologist. Exploding cysts that can contain teeth and hair. Totally fascinating!

It has been a day.

Shadycorner · 29/05/2019 22:26

Yuuurgh Hills! Grin

Zoo I didn't know you were in to embalming! Confused

I've Please make sure you rest as much as humanly possible. Could you order one of those grabber sticks on-line? I find they are a godsend when I have backache (recurring issue), especially for picking washing up off the floor.

Made it to wreck2 where DH will be joining us tomorrow (public holiday). DD has worn me out as she was in an absolutely foul mood after her exam this morning. Tired now!

Thank you for the warm welcomes!

@Shady i have read you welcome post thank you but need to do more reading up on the flylady site. I had completely forgotten that I attempted to follow the flying method after dd1 but only got as far as shining sink Grin

I am convinced the Marie Kondo method is going to change my life, I just haven't had the time or energy (aka ability to get my arse off sofa) to actually do it.

We live in a 2 bed flat with 2 dc 3 & 14mo and we both work so the house is pretty much at breaking point

Looking forward to de-cluttering with you all! Wine

Cagliostro · 30/05/2019 00:03

Kondo changed my life for sure. The full on “get aaaall your stuff and put it in a pile” was grossly impractical for family life and chronic illness but the ability to let go of stuff and actually be happy to let go even when something had money spent or some (often misunderstood) notion of sentimentality was genuinely world altering.

I’ve had a batshit crazy day involving lots of messaging people about stuff, and doing nothing practical whatsoever. I had a lovely snuggly movie evening with DS though

Shadycorner · 30/05/2019 04:39

Good morning!

Just after 5.30 am eating toast! Birds are chirping and DD and I off shortly as DD participating in fun ride (public holiday - Ascension) with 🐎 and dfarmer and his 🐎.

Hey Putsfootinit ! To be strictly honest, I think the Flylady system is best for maintaining cleaning routines etc, and the decluttering part is weaker. I have never found it easy to declutter in 15 min slots of time for example. Kondo doesn't work for me at all though because my house is very tall and we have multiples of the same thing on different floors, so the gathering together bit is a pita. Whichever method you choose though, it's very hard with small DC! So very best of luck with it! I do think ring-fencing some decluttering time at certain times each week is helpful though! Hope it goes well for you!

🌼 Fledglings - I doubt I will be back on here today but will return tomorrow when I will set up new thread! Have a productive errand day everyone!

Waves to Cag and to everyone else!

Tally-ho! 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
