What temperature is your home?

I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I couldn't find it, so here goes...

What temperature is your room heating thermostats set for?
Do you have a range, below and above which you feel too cold/too hot?

DH has ours set to a default of 18.5 c. I nearly always feel cold.
When I complain he says I can turn them up, and I do, but they default back to 18.5 every 24 hours.
Cost isn't really the issue and we can afford to pay the bills, but I just don't think he and DS feel as cold as I do.

We went to friends on Friday who have a lovely big kitchen diner with a woodburner and it was all so cosy and welcoming I could almost have cried with joy!

I feel our house is cold and not very welcoming.

18.5 upstairs (We like it cooler to sleep) and
20 downstairs, sometimes 21 in the evenings. I feel the cold and am happy to spend what it costs to have a warm home.

If you can afford it I'd change the programmed temperature so you are comfy and it doesn't keep defaulting to 18.5. You could increase it by 1 degree at a time to find the most comfortable temperature.

When we lived with my MIL she liked it at 24-26 c which was sweltering. We keep thermostat at 21 and 20 c at night time

We have it at 18 most of the time but if I’m feeling cold I’ll bung it up to 21 for a few hours.

If we’re in but up and about 18, sitting down I’ll have it at 20. At night, we drop it to 15. DS runs about naked whatever the temperature!!

We have a lot of blankets on the couch as well that we all fight over.

We have a terraced cottage which although is double glazed has a front door directly onto the lounge so 22 all day until we go to bed then it’s 18.

Old stone cottage, doors straight into rooms , secondary glazing on metal lattice windows. Set at 16°, put it up to 17.5° when sitting about working at computer for long time. Colder upstairs. Woolen blankets plus open wood fire in lounge for evenings.

Freezing... When we have the wood burner going, we have a lovely cosy sitting room, but the rest of the house, you can huff white air out! Most of the time, it's fine, I keep busy and don't really feel it, but when I visit friends with heating... Oh my... What luxury!

I would find 18.5 extremely cold. I set mine around 20-22.

18 degrees. Sometimes I wear a long sleeved t-shirt, sometimes a jumper and blanket on the sofa, but I'm not cold at this temperature. Heating goes off at night and comes back on half an hour before we get up.

Mines set at 12.5.
Usually temp is around 18/19 without any heating on, lowest I've seen it is 16, I just put a hoody or a house coat on! I rarely turn the heating on.

Usually 18.5 but turned up to as high as required. I don't like to feel cold.

20-22, wearing fluffy socks and a cardigan.

I can just about manage the heating on at 18 for about an hour in winter.

OH sets it for hotter than the surface of the sun. He heard people with health conditions are supposed to have it on 22 constantly and thought he was doing the right thing for me. Until I pointed out I felt sick and dizzy at that heat.

As long as my feet are warm and I've got a cardie to hand, I'm fine.

Our main room was usually around 19. Very helpfully our thermostat doesn't have any numbers on it so we can't set it to a temperature. Then DH had two weeks garden leave and he turned it up so it's now around 21. It's a bit warmer today because we have black tiled floors, big windows and it's sunny.

The two things that made the most difference for me are fleece lined crocs i.e. warm feet. Secondly, I have a hideous, oversized, padded gilet my grandma's last ever present to me which I wear over whatever I am wearing when I'm home. It's an extra layer of warmth but no bulky sleeves and doesn't get in the way.

I put mine on at 24 when I'm feeling cold and down to 20 when I'm feeling hot.....I really should try 22!

22 if we are sitting watching tv or whatever in the evening but turn it down when we go to bed o around 16-18 as we like it cool to sleep ( also have window open )

21 during the day, 18 at night. We also have a woodburner, and when used pumps the temp up a few degrees. Lovely.

There's nothing DP and I argue about more than the heating/temperature.

He is always cold and I'm always warm. He'd have it on 22° permanently if he could, whereas just the thought of that makes me feel ill.

Normally he puts it on 20ish in the early evening and I turn it down to about 15 after a couple of hours/when I go to bed.

If it were up to me, the bedroom window would also be open.

We have a young baby so have gro eggs all over the house which as well as being very accurate does stop any heating arguments. We find that if it drops below 18.8 we start to feel chilly, 17.9 feels cold. We aim for between 19-21oc. After that it gets too warm for baby.

Mine is 16 usually. We turn it on to 18 for a few hours in the evening. Having a hot house, makes us feel ill, lethargic and tired.

I set the aircon to 22 if its a hot day. We don't have aircon in the bedrooms though so it was a very hot 28 a few nights ago, very hard to sleep.

If the temp is making you miserable and you can afford it, why are you letting your H dictate the temp? Surely he doesn’t want you to be cold and miserable? Just go into the settings of the thermastat and change it!

19.5 during the day (thermostat in a warm part of the house so probably 19 elsewhere). I wear 2/3 layers, socks/shoes and wrap in a rug if I sit down.

Unless I'm doing active housework, I find anything lower colder and miserable. I tried 18 but found it was costing more in the chocolate I was eating beause I was cold and miserable than the small cost difference to heat the house from 18 to 19.

Victorian house so don't think I could heat it to 22 if I wanted to!
