What temperature is your home?

I'm sure this must have been asked before, but I couldn't find it, so here goes...

What temperature is your room heating thermostats set for?
Do you have a range, below and above which you feel too cold/too hot?

DH has ours set to a default of 18.5 c. I nearly always feel cold. Sad
When I complain he says I can turn them up, and I do, but they default back to 18.5 every 24 hours.
Cost isn't really the issue and we can afford to pay the bills, but I just don't think he and DS feel as cold as I do.

We went to friends on Friday who have a lovely big kitchen diner with a woodburner and it was all so cosy and welcoming I could almost have cried with joy!

I feel our house is cold and not very welcoming.

Jesus wept. You know it's not magic, right? Just reprogramme it, like a big girl.

Ours is set to 18 degrees but on a work day it is only on for a couple of hours in the morning and then comes on again at 2pm to heat the house for DS coming home from school. It goes off at 8.30 and the house stays warm enough until we go to bed. Weekends it comes on later and stays on longer but still only programmed for a couple of hours in the morning and then again in the evening. If we are at home and it gets cold we "advance" it to the next "on" phase.

Do people really leave their heating on overnight? What a waste of money! Set it to come on 30 mins or an hour before you get up. The house will be warm enough.

Between 22 and 25.

Do people really leave their heating on overnight?

Yes because I had prems who struggle to maintain a good temperature.

Yeah, but we live in Canada so have to. It was minus 25 last night, for example.

Heating at 18 overnight would finish me off, I'd be a sweat ball!
Ours is set to 18 and usually is only on for a few hours morning and early evening, with a strategic half hour mid morning and later in the evening. If we are in and it goes below 16 I'll usually put it on for a bit.
What on Earth are the 22degrees brigade wearing at home?? When it's that temperature outside the park is full of bikinis!

Usually 21 all day till 7ish then it's switched off till 7am. Our upstairs gets so warm we have windows cracked open on a night even in this weather.

Our boiler doesn't have a thermostat, but we have it set high.

At the moment it's 4°C but we have had the heating on for an hour.

(The house is 4° that is!)

Heating is a luxury we use carefully!

We tend to go with 22 degrees for the house during the day and then let it fall to 18 during the night in the winter.

The challenge for us is actually in the summer trying to keep it cool and we live in Scotland.

Couple that with why is still light outside and bedtime makes for a long bedtime routine Grin

The only thermostat is on the landing and it's usually set between 19 and 21, going up if it's colder outside. This makes the living and dining rooms comfortable. One of the bedrooms is always cold because the radiator needs fixing, and the bathroom is always cold because it has no insulation.

20ish in the day, 21 between dinner and bed and then 19 through the night. Usually. X

19.5 feels right most of the time for me, in the evening, in my house. Sometimes that feels too high or too low so I just put it up or down accordingly. I always put it up a bit if we’re having visitors because I know I like it cooler than most.

It has on and off settings throughout the day, but they’re all set to 10deg, I if I’m home and cold I turn it up manually (it goes off at the next auto preset which works for me as otherwise it gets roasting then I end up opening windows to cool it down 😖)

However, it’s completely irrelevant to you, in your house. It depends on your heating system, the location of your thermostat, where your radiators are, glazing, drafts etc.
My thermostat is in a room where the radiator is on low, so the temperature is higher in other rooms where the rads are on full/high. It’s all adjusted for comfort, not what’s on the display.

So come on, you’re being daft, you’re an adult. Just adjust your settings and see how it goes.

Our thermostat is in the hall and is set to 20C from 6.00 - 8.30, then 16C till 5.00, back to 20C and then off at 9.30. During the day it is set to 16C and at night 15C. Weekends start later and is on for longer.

We turned the rad in the hall down, but all the other downstairs rads at at full blast. Bedrooms are according to individual taste. We are pretty well open plan and most room doors are open most of the time, and the house is well insulated.

We also have a hive controller, which is great for checking the temps. So far this winter it has only kicked in a couple of times when the hall temp has dipped. And we can always boost it if we feel chilly (feeling, rather than the actual temp!)

20 morning and evening, 18 rest of the time, but I often turn it up, our house is frickin freezing.,

Why are you asking your DH if you can turn the heating up? It's your home, you don't need his permission - just alter the settings so it doesn't keep going back to 18.5.

Our heating is off most of the day (because we are at work/school). It comes on for an hour in the morning and for 4 hours in the afternoon/evening; it's set to come on at 19/19.5 during those times.
It is also set to 19/19.5 at the weekends, but I often end up turning it down to 18.5, as otherwise it is too hot for doing housework.
It never gets turned up higher than 19.5 unless we have visitors.

Usually mine's on at 21 degrees all day; it has been cranked up to 24 over the past few days though.

It stays on at 18 during the night too.
