Ages ago there used to be a slatterns housework motivation thread with some good chit-chat along the way. I can't seem to find where it is now? If there is one point me in the direction of where you are all posting now, if not then pull up a pew write your housework to do list, have a bit of a chit-chat and attempt to get some chores done Smile

OK my list today is

Make beds done
Washington dishes done
Laundry first load on line 2nd load in
Take down Xmas decorations
Hoover downstairs
Clean bathroom
Declutter toys

The priority is take down Xmas decorations without fail. Xmas is old news for me now.

Hi all,

Can I join you please? I'm in a bit of a pickle and need some motivation and encouragement.

I have a DH and three boys - 9, 9 and 4, as well as a dog and hamster in a big cage. I work full time - back to work on 7th Jan. I need to be well organised and have a system by then. Our house burnt down in November.

We were left with the clothes we stood up in and subsequently various bits and pieces that we have saved from the house - a few of the kids' favourite bits and pieces, some new school uniforms and clothes that we have bought, and now the boys Christmas presents.

I've ordered some under bed storage for clothes and several sets of hooks for back of doors.

We are moving today from a small holiday let into a small 2 bed place. near to our burnt out house so that we can supervise the build and still use the garden. Hardly any storage. I need to keep on top of things living-wise for the year as our house is re-built.

So today's list -
Pack away tree decorations
Take away tree
2 car loads of clothes to 2 bed place
Wash on
Tumble dry on (at other place - no dryer here)
Clear our fridge and sort something for lunch and dinner
an hour on planning for build

lynnepot · 29/12/2018 13:41

Heya Phoenix wow what a traumatic time you have been through. Sorry to hear of the fire. The main thing is you are all safe including the animals. Good to hear you are taking positive steps with the house move away from the holiday let. Do you know yet when your house will be rebuilt?

Make beds done
Washington dishes done wtf was my autocorret doing relacing washing dishes with Washington dishes? Grin
Laundry 3x loads done and on the line
Take down Xmas decorations done
Hoover downstairs
Clean bathroom
Declutter toys

OK Xmas is officially done with here now the decorations have been taken down. It's funny how my boy was so excited to help put them up but wasnt to be seen when it came to taking them down Hmm

Hi all, I'd like to join you.

My house has been a total mess for years. I've spent most of the last year getting slowly on top of it, and with a big push before Christmas it is the best it's ever been (although not show home perfect, but I'm not aiming for that). I'm very, very keen to stay on top of things into the new year.

Yesterday I had a clear out of the corner of our bedroom where things had accumulated over Xmas and found places (with a bit of decluttering) for all the dc's christmas presents. So far today dp and I have taken down the outdoor Xmas lights, some general cleaning and I'm about to commence the mission that is sorting our totally stacked with junk spare room.

cikecaka · 30/12/2018 23:36

lynnepot · 31/12/2018 18:21

Heya all. We've been out and about most weekend so not been most productive with the housework. My sort of routine is all up in the air at the moment and probably will remain so until ds goes back to school. Just trying to keep my head above kepping the place relatively tidy and I'm happy with that at the moment.

Today I have

Washed the dishes
Made beds
Done 1x load of washing

Tea is on the go at the moment. I will then wash up, wipe over kitchen, general downstairs tidy up, and sort the laundry out. Staying in for nye. May even be in bed fast asleep before midnight. Hope everyone has a nice new years whatever you're doing.

Urgh when you don't drink any alcohol on new years eve so to avoid a hangover but wake up with the flu Sad not much housework been done here. Dh has fed ds and done the dishes. I've been on the sofa but gonna try and muster some crumpets, have a shower, and go for a walk on the beach and get some fresh air in my lungs. May come home and dettol the place depending how I feel.

Once a slattern, always a slattern.

I need to get my arse in to gear.

So far today

Checked 1 bag of Christmas wrapping - my mother bred into me that all wrapping paper must be checked to make sure nothing is thrown away accidentally. I wish I could ignore this, but I get twitchy.

That’s it.

lynnepot · 01/01/2019 17:36

Well I've not mustered much more than you in all honesty. We went to the beach for a stroll this afternoon and got fish and chips on the way back so don't even have any dishes to do. Still feeling bunged up with the flu. I will go round with the dettol can once ds is in bed. Need to give ds a bath too.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/01/2019 19:57

I'll join. I'm actually pretty on top of everything for once & would quite like it to continue. That being said I've done naff all today, except run the dishwasher post roast & mop the kitchen floor.

SlatternIsTrying · 01/01/2019 20:30

After an afternoon of snoozing I had a blip of activity

Tidied a corner of DS’s bedroom.
Tidied DD’s dressing table
Made dinner
Made a bucket load of sauce from leftover veg in fridge

lynnepot · 01/01/2019 21:45

Good stuff everyone.

Tonight I have

Bathed ds
Wiped over bath (ds brought half the beach back home)
Wiped over bathroom basin
Bleached the loo
Dettol'd door knobs, staircase banister, kitchen surfaces
General downstairs tidy up

Am now in bed watching titanic.

OP posts:
SlatternIsTrying · 01/01/2019 22:54

Plan for tomorrow

PTA thing must be completed

If that doesn’t take all day, then

Washing x2
Continue clear out of fridge
Sort washing on dryer

abbsisspartacus · 01/01/2019 23:00

Well I took the tree down and hoovered dishwasher is on veg eaten kids forced into semi compliance and ate "real food" as opposed to snack shite and cereal

I've thrown away lots loads more to go rearranging my lounge (looks shite) and I've been ill for anyone who hasn't seen me moaning my arse off on the fireworks thread last night 🤣🤣

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 01/01/2019 23:25

I'd like to join please.

Today I have;

  • Washed, tumbled and remade beds.
  • Decluttered and tidied DDs playroom and bedroom.
  • Done the dishwasher
  • Cleaned the sides in the kitchen and wiped over hob

In my hungover state; I'm actually quite proud of that list.

Tomorrow I want to;

  • Sweep, hoover and mop through.
  • Clean the bathrooms
  • Declutter my bedroom
  • Get to the bottom of my washing pile
  • Organise utility room and laundry room
  • Deep clean the dishwasher and washing machine
  • Clean Out both fridges.

But before that I need to go food shopping, do some general admin and attempt to get through to my GP surgery... exhausted even thinking about it at the minute!

lynnepot · 02/01/2019 08:50

Morning.

abbsis yeah our cupboards are still full of remnants of junk food from Xmas and selection boxes. Someone even gave ds a jar of pick n mix which he is slowly going through. I've done well not to raid his pick n mix or selection boxes yet but yes I'll be glad when it has all gone and he can go back to sweets at weekends only.

Today I aim to do my annual declutter of ds toys. Sort a pile of keep, move to the grandparents houses, and charity shop. I also need to

Wash the dishes
Wipe over the kitchen tops
Laundry
General tidy up

I'm feeling much better today flu wise. Just a stiffly nose but I seem to have stopped sneezing and the sore throat has gone Smile

abbsisspartacus · 02/01/2019 13:40

I'm so glad I have a dishwasher I've felt so sick this Christmas we would be on paper plates by now

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 02/01/2019 17:33

Today did not go well for me.

I popped out to do a quick food shop at 12 and have only just got in!

My plan now is to;
Clean the utility and laundry rooms
Disinfect the dogs room (Anal Glands EnvyEnvy)

Then I'll start my proper list from tomorrow.
I did manage to pick up some more cleaning stuff today; plus the stuff I needed for my fabric refresher so not all bad!

SlatternIsTrying · 02/01/2019 18:28

I managed all the things on my (very short) list. But in my attempt to sort pta thing I discovered much more random paperwork, of varying degrees of importance, lying around than I thought.

I must get a handle on the paperwork in this house.

I’m at work tomorrow and out in evening so no point in setting unrealistic goals.

lynnepot · 02/01/2019 21:06

Hey all.

Wash the dishes done
Wipe over the kitchen tops done
Laundry 2× loads done
General tidy up done
Bleached downstairs loo done
Decluttered ds toys done
Grocery shop done
Made tea done
Dishes washed done
Wiped over kitchen tops again done

Tomorrow I really need to deep clean the kitchen

Sunnysidegold · 02/01/2019 22:50

Hey all....

Bet I write this and never check in again!
My plan tomorrow is to clear the dreaded cupboard under the stairs. I'm hoping to put lots to attic and charity shop.

I also want to tidy my bedroom and the utility room. I've been thinking of how to reorganize the utility cupboards as I don't think I'm making the best use of them.

But...tidying my room would make me feel happy at night time instead of coming in tripping over ten tonnes of crap.

Christmas decs I will take down at weekend as need help getting all the boxes out of the attic.

abbsisspartacus · 02/01/2019 23:43

Cat litter trays done work done (ironically I'm a cleaner) tumble drying done and ironing started all I need to do now is convince my son to go to sleep he won't sleep!!

HundredMileStare · 03/01/2019 06:28

Just the thread I need!

So i was supposed to be back at work today and have childcare and dog care all arranged... I'm feeling so motivated though so I'm thinking of returning tomorrow and spending today at 100mph gutting this house.

Top of the to-do list is the kids bedroom which is still suffering from Christmas.

So I'd like to:
Gut the bedroom
Cull their clothes and re-arrange their drawers
Get the bare Christmas tree up the attic
Clear out hallway cupboard
Deep clean the living room (under sofas etc)
Clear out as much junk as possible from the kitchen.
Generally tidy up everywhere.

I also need to make it to the shops for lightbulbs and pillow cases.

Ok, I'm going to get a coffee down me and get the kids sorted and then I'm getting stuck in! Grin

cikecaka · 03/01/2019 12:21

I nearly am going to take a photo, to shame myself into cleaning the kitchen properly!
Wash ALL the dishes
Dry/Put away
Clean Counters
Clear main counter
Sort paper work
Put away shopping
Brush Floor
Mop

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 03/01/2019 13:36

So far today I have;

  • Done one load of washing and put it in the tumble dryer.
  • Put another load in
  • Cleaned the kitchen
  • Swept and mopped the kitchen and utility
  • Tidied the laundry room
  • Cleaned the kitchen sides, sink and hob
  • Put on the dishwasher
  • Cleaned the bathrooms
  • Cleaned mine and DDs room.

All the windows are open, I've used my HM fabric refresher and my house now smells of clean laundry, lemons and vanilla (2 capfuls of vanilla extract in a hot oven for 1 hour - smell lingers forever and it makes me look like a domestic goddess..)
