Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge Part 5

StealthNinjaMum · 01/10/2018 17:18

We’re still here!

For 4 threads a group of mumsnetters have been getting rid of just one thing a day. We’ve been throwing out, selling, recycling and giving our stuff away.

But we're still not finished.

Newbies are always welcome to join us. Just get rid of one thing each day and come back here to discuss your progress and get support when it gets hard.

how sad woogle all that work.

Have taken 3 bags of books to a charity shop and 2 car seats to the dump. I've also bought pollyfilla and anti damp paint and been sanding down some damp spots in our annexe to paint over. Lots of diy to do before the house goes up for sale.

I have finally got sky email access again so have spent a couple of hours going through my sky emails and unsubscribing from various different companies prior to deleting all of the emails.
DH has done some housework while I was at work.

Dear Stealth, I haven't commented yet on your DH because I don't really know what to say. I can hardly believe it. What a fool. I'm so glad about your 3 accounts and also your being able to put your hands on the papers you might need. He did sound a little bit different to DHs I know when you mentioned that you wouldn't tell him about this thread; a bit narrow or judgey, maybe? I think we ought to be able to tell them about the silly things we do! Anyway, my heart goes out to you. You sound very strong and calm, and he sounds stupid. Poor DCs. Flowers

Attacked a two-inch-thick pile of unopened letters. Separated into "Do This Asap", and "Read And File." We'll see what happens.

Immediately put envelopes and junk mail into recycling bins. Kep a couple of envelopes for shopping lists.

Started a personal ToDo list for after school re-starts.

Binned about eight carpet tiles that were damaged after a pipe burst s couple of months ago.

Chopped and bagged up some thin branches that were pruned some weeks ago.

Discovered more crafts stuff. Really not sure what to do with it all. Maybe the local after-school club could use some.

Stealth. So sorry to hear your news and at Christmas that was artsy of him.

Woggle all that work I can appreciate how much you put into it. Well next year get her a coffee voucher😬she has no manners!

Decluttered some apple pie and a shower gel bottle. Back to the decluttering.

Craft stuff yes after school or school itself. Budgets tight now. Or look for voluntary group for people with learning difficulties

Really sorry to hear your news Stealth 💐
Absolutely no decluttering done here in the last two weeks but not too much new stuff in as I asked for practical gifts for us and DS this year. DH has been online shopping in the sale but I’m ignoring that as it stresses me out! Will get back on it in the new year. We are going to buy more storage which I think will help

We're having a heatwave here and I cooked tonight's dinner at 9.30am and have been pretty much laying on the bed since then. I'm not achieving much at all!
It's 38 degrees celcius - 100F (we do have very noisy aircon tho).

StealthNinjaMum · 29/12/2018 11:09

ha Penelope maybe he would've been judgy about the decluttering. I didn't really tell him about the decluttering because he comes from a hoarding family and he has inherited their tendency to never throw things away. He used to get angry if I suggested throwing the girls things away but they are largely on board now - and yesterday dd2 cleared a whole storage cube of toys and dd1 threw away a craft toy she'd made. Dh is on board now and has got rid of loads of his own stuff - possibly because he wants to leave.

I am still devastated and possibly sound stronger than I am but there is a long running thread in the separations board full of women who have been abandoned by apparently happy husbands whose personalities have just changed overnight and I definitely feel like that has happened here. Anyway he claims that I can live here until dd2 goes to secondary school which will give me years to decorate it and declutter.

This morning I was up at 5 putting more polyfilla on walls. I was also on a ladder removing old raw plugs from where we had new smoke alarms and lights fitted a few months ago. Dotted all over the house are tiny holes in ceilings and I have been meaning to fill them in and paint on them. I'll be doing that this week.

In terms of decluttering I have put a few things for sale on Facebook. I have also found a rare item that I might sell on eBay but I have never sold on eBay before so I find that thought a bit scary.

I have started a new thread.
