Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge Part 5

StealthNinjaMum · 01/10/2018 17:18

We’re still here!

For 4 threads a group of mumsnetters have been getting rid of just one thing a day. We’ve been throwing out, selling, recycling and giving our stuff away.

But we're still not finished.

Newbies are always welcome to join us. Just get rid of one thing each day and come back here to discuss your progress and get support when it gets hard.

Hi everyone! It's lovely to see you all doing so well. I've got loads to do with family coming tomorrow but somehow managed to fall asleep this afternoon and slept for about 6 hours!!! I'm now up and doing things. I've just finished the fridge. I had far too much ood stuff so have thrown out loads! The good news is that I can now fit all the beer and white wine in there. I've also poured some ood cola down the loo - I'm interested to see what it does.

Also going out today are an empty deodorant can and an empty spray bottle.

And, I've used up some frozen, home-made foods: cake and dahl - yum!

Tidy2018 · 22/12/2018 22:48

Found signs of woodworm in a chest of drawers that was in the garage, intended for playmobil parts. It's now in the garden, awaiting a trip to the recycling centre. Playmobil ppl will have to live in their boxes for a while longer.

Tidied all paper and packaging from a birthday earlier this week. Put it in recycling bin. Cleaned out dubious bits and pieces from fridge. So much to do in kitchen and utility, that it is rather demoralising.

LOs rapidly outgrowing clothes and shoes, and I'm finally getting some sorted out for donation. Binned a pair of wellies that LB was carsick into. Bleurgh!

There are so many bags of shopping and clutter! I went through all of them, and found two never-worn pairs of wellies, one pair of which are now too small. More for the donation pile, which I will start bagging up tomorrow. Also intend to wash all the school uniforms and get them into wardrobes sometime on Monday, however late that may be.

Other things for tomorrow are to straighten out my office, clear off my bedside table, and bix up the excess Christmas decorations and put the boxes on a shelf.

SandAndSea · 23/12/2018 10:59

I've finally got around to cleaning my oven! (Yes, this is news.) I've also cleaned the towel radiator in the bathroom (another hated job). I'm just ticking off some admin then will have to go to the laundrette to dry all the wet washing... and lots of other jobs. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about.

So, today's items are crumbs, grease and dust.

Gibble1 · 23/12/2018 11:53

Today’s out was a pair of pyjamas with holes in the bottom. Small win!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/12/2018 14:06

Some clothes and household things to charity shop today.

I have bought myself a new baking tray to replace a couple of really ropey ones . Might save them for the skip when I go there next rather than bin (they wouldn't be accepted in the charity shop )

Bin bag full of rubbish put out. Tons cleared from fridge and recycled.
Lounge is clear now thankfully. Just dining room to sort out tomorrow.

BagelGoesWalking · 23/12/2018 19:57

Amazingly, all presents but one are wrapped and under the tree. Half done in brown paper and others in non-recyclable Xmas paper that I'm trying to use up (still enough for next year left 😩).

Nothing decluttered in ages as I've kept all the delivery boxes. Planning on trying to sell a few more things on eBay on the new year so I might need the boxes. Lucky enough to have a spare box room to hide stuff in.

Happy Christmas everyone!

SandAndSea · 23/12/2018 21:32

I'm finally sitting down after a mammoth day of cleaning, laundry, food shopping etc. I think - think - I'm all done. Christmas has started!

Happy Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a lovely time. X

WoogleCone · 24/12/2018 06:51

Morning all!

Last night I FINISHED THE BLANKET!! Grin the relief was palpable. It's currently wrapped in paper and on the kitchen table with the rest of the ILs presents ready for them to take this afternoon when they pop over for a sherry.

So that's one more roll of paper gone too! DD is with PIL today while DH and I work, DH finishes at 1 though so he gets to come.home and hoover, tidy up etc before they bring her back. Then I'll skip out as soon as I can (won't be before half 3 though) so I'll try join them for a nonalcoholic beer (pregnant) after that.

Then tonight DH needs to build DDs Xmas present and get rid of the box (wooden kitchen from Asda).

Finally feeling festive! Might even get my Christmas shoes out for work today Xmas Grin

Merry Christmas everyone, have a fabulous few days, enjoy your plans, families/friends and relax! Xmas Smile

StealthNinjaMum · 24/12/2018 09:05

Well done wogglecone your blanket sounds lovely.

I have been up to the loft and broken down the large box that the broken coffee machine was in.

All presents wrapped and under the tree. I have a small bit of tidying to do that will inevitably lead to some decluttering but I am now going to try to enjoy the next few days with my girls without getting too stressed with the rest of the house.

Merry Christmas everyone. Next year really is the year I 'finish' decluttering!

School uniforms nearly dry. Other clean clothes are in wardrobes. Washing of bedding is now underway. Ratty trainers in the bin. Wrapping paper and excess deccorations are coralled in boxes on shelves. Bureau is tidy, to-do paperwork is all set aside for attention Thurs/Friday.

Old newspapers and some magazines are in paper bin.

Now in danger of churning, so I'll focus very hard to avoid that temptation.

We have lost a large roll of Christmas paper!
2 more rolls used up and gifts being delivered tonight and this afternoon.
Merry Christmas to you all xx

PenelopeFlintstone · 24/12/2018 23:07

Merry Christmas everyone Star - and I still love this thread and the people on it Xmas Smile

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 17:37

Got rid of lots of wrapping paper, a dead baking tray, some stained clothes and some empty medicines

Lots more has come in than goes out so getting on it tomorrow

Wish I'd had the opportunity to go through the kids old toys before the new ones arrived so that will be the first thing to get to otherwise this new stuff will have nowhere to go

Am I right you can't recycle the paper because of the sticky tape? Going to recycle all the other boxes and packaging I can but not up for de-taping wrapping paper

bumblebee39 · 25/12/2018 21:59

Does anybody know what I can do with unopened rolls of wrapping paper and other Xmas bits like that? I have nowhere to store it and don't want to Bin it X

PenelopeFlintstone · 26/12/2018 03:13

Charity shop? Freecycle? Facebook selling page?

So happy. Dd2 had a 'time machine' in her bedroom for about 18 months. It was a big box and I hated it but let her have it as a place to turn into a den. She realised she hadn't got daddy a present so brought it downstairs yesterday, put a bow on it and hid in it for daddy to open. Obviously everyone laughed and thought it was very cute and the box broke! So for Christmas Day I decluttered a big furniture box! #betterthananypresent

That's adorable Stealth and bonus that the box went too!

We've done a decent job of getting rid of paper and boxes although the garage is quite a sight! Family arriving any minute so fridge will be decluttered too!

Happy Christmas all Xmas Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2018 12:30

I have a load of wrapping paper and boxes which I'm going to take a photo of before Dh puts it in the attic. Then next year I will not need to buy much.
What I don't need can go to recycle/charity shop

I have some Christmas Crockery that gets used once a year (that I'll keep) and other things that can go.

Plan to do this over the weekend .

Bumblebee39 · 26/12/2018 15:00

Will try & find space for it for now as don't want to bin it

What will a food bank take? Got lots of toiletries for Xmas (some of which mean I've got duplicates eg. Nice Xmas bubble bath sets, the bath stuff I already had out, and spares)

SandAndSea · 26/12/2018 16:57

I've posted something on freebay. I'll charity it if it doesn't go in a couple of days.

I've also written a list of things I want to sell. (Aka Sitting on the sofa.)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/12/2018 20:40

Quick wardrobe cull and re-organise . Got maybe 4-5 things out to go into the recycle bag.
