We’re still here!

For 4 threads a group of mumsnetters have been getting rid of just one thing a day. We’ve been throwing out, selling, recycling and giving our stuff away.

But we're still not finished.

Newbies are always welcome to join us. Just get rid of one thing each day and come back here to discuss your progress and get support when it gets hard.

Two hand creams into work today and took a couple of dresses back to the shop. I found them at the weekend still with tags and had two days left to return. Score.

Ditched two sets of Invisalign aligners today. My last two old ones. Which has made room for the three new sets the dentist gave me today.

Dsis also gave me some lovely stationery things for my birthday so those have gone to work too.

Evening all Smile

Sorry to hear of your loss Kitty.
Have you tried this before? www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/decluttering/ the clutter comes away slowly in "layers", it's the method I like to use.

Madison could you try insisting "thanks so much for trying to help but I really don't need this right now and I'm working towards a peaceful clutter free home and am going to bless someone else with it. But if you are really attached feel free to take it home with you..." Grin

Today I got rid of a load of papers from the desk cupboard and some empty boxes from baby's bedroom.

Lemontwist · 04/10/2018 08:14

Had a bit of a quiet day yesterday, snuggles with baby DD came top of the list after she had her first jabs.
I did give a jumper to my mum though that I don't wear and threw away some old makeup.

Today though I already have two boxes in the car boot for the tip and a bag of parcels for the post office that I've sold on ebay.

Today I picked up some new storage boxes, that I have been eagerly awaiting before starting on the clutter at the bottom of my wardrobe. This will be more of a tidy than a declutter I expect but I'll feel better for it! I have also decided to take all dregs of suncream when we go on holiday next month, that should make a load of space.

PawneeParksDept · 04/10/2018 13:02

I have some jars of pebbly shit that don't fit in with my new flat - they are going today

StealthNinjaMum · 04/10/2018 13:15

Hello Madison. Do you have a car? I like to put clutter in the boot so no-one can see it and I can just pop in a bag or two a week to the charity shop. My family are kind of on board with the declutter - not that I really talk about it - but I think it's obvious my house is tidier and places have homes.

Consuela how are you doing? Would you like someone to set you a challenge to get started? I say 'go through dc3's clothes and declutter things that don't fit.'

some jars of pebbly shit Grin Grin

Cleared out the fridge today and slung some stuff from the pantry we don't like and won't get eaten

StealthNinjaMum · 04/10/2018 13:19

I have been playing with my label machine sorting out stationery in drawers. It's quite satisfying really. I haven't chucked much out - bits of fluff, a part of a toy that I looked for for ages and then threw out the rest when I couldn't find it, and some more of dcs pictures.

Thank you for the welcome.

danigrace have had a quick read of Flylady and that seems to be a more doable approach. Haven’t done anything today as not at home, but have my mind set on a 15 minute blitz of my computer desk and area this evening.

SandAndSea · 04/10/2018 16:42

Today's items include loads of bubble wrap, a charger, two torches and loads of mould. Basically, I discovered a mouldy cupboard which has contaminated everything it contained. It all stinks! I've scrubbed/washed/boiled everything I can. The cupboard's going too.

If anyone knows any tricks for getting the smell of mould out of gadgety things, please do tell.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 04/10/2018 17:56

Agree that sometimes the Marie Kondo 'spark of joy' is hard to find....

Whispers: Your DC4 is back tomorrow IWillWearTheGreenWillow what keepsake will they bring home that's too precious to chuck?! Wink

PawneeParksDept · 04/10/2018 17:59

@danigrace somebody has taken the pebbly shit off my hands, rejoice, remember when it was all in style Blush

danigrace · 04/10/2018 20:10

@KittyB52 it really does work well, amazing what 15 minutes can achieve, plus it's all about being kind to yourself. The whole house isn't "fixed" in a weekend but it is a much more sustainable approach, kind of like crash dieting Vs general healthy living!!

Lol @PawneeParksDept glad to hear! It was your description that made me giggle!

Today I got rid of about 4 inches worth of paper clutter - mostly receipts for stuff we no longer have, expired insurance policies, and manuals for stuff (no idea why I kept them bc would always look stuff like that up online anyway!)

danigrace · 04/10/2018 20:13

Sand ooft sorry to hear that, how annoying. We have a few patches of mould on our bedroom wall that keep coming back which is incredibly annoying. It's a very old house, we have a dehumidifier going full tilt but alas

ememem84 · 04/10/2018 21:15

Finished an exfoliator today so that’s binned.

I finished a hand cream at work and put it in my handbag to take home so I'd remember to put a new one in my bag for work, and also put a new one on my bedside table, so one in the bin and two out of my big cupboard.
Also, chucked a few things out of the pantry which I thought I'd already cleared but fresh eyes see new things, it seems!!

SandAndSea · 04/10/2018 22:19

Penelope - So true. I'm always finding things I hadn't noticed previously.

SandAndSea · 04/10/2018 23:39

Mould update: My dp can't smell it at all. My friend can smell it a bit in the cupboard bit not on the ex-contents. I can still smell it on the ex-contents but it is less now. There's a chance that the smell is actually up my nose. I'm hopeful that I will be able to clean everything up fully and find other places for them. I've been thinking and I think I can find places without having to get another cupboard. This means more space which I'm quite excited about!! Grin

SandAndSea · 04/10/2018 23:41

*but (not bit)

danigrace · 05/10/2018 06:47

Well done Sands! Can you bleach the mould patches in the cupboard if there are any? And a cup of baking soda left in there should absorb the smell.

Hoping to get rid of a load more paper clutter today, feels good.

Bowerbird5 · 05/10/2018 08:18

Year baking powder or lemon.

Yesterday I sorted hand bags and threw out some of the contents.

Tupperware. It is a pity that there isn’t a Tupperware central that you could send things without lids or lids so they could be matched up. I could certainly put some out then. You hang on ( or I do) hoping you will find the matching piece. This time, however, if I can’t match it up it is going as we are getting a new kitchen so I will try and be more ruthless.

Kitty also sorry for your loss. Dani is right Fly lady is a long, slow process that does work come join us on the thread. There are great people on there and posting your achievements does help. The fifteen minute thing works as does the small steps.i like the weekly zones too.

Hatstand · 05/10/2018 17:10

Haven't actually shifted much over the past couple of days but have instead prepped lots of bags - two suitcases full Blush for local baby sale, a bag for h&m as suggested up thread and a bag for the charity shop.

Feeling very motivated by the accountability of being on this thread!

ememem84 · 05/10/2018 17:33

Haven’t ditched anything today but haven’t brought anything new back either. So that’s a plus I suppose.
