The Organised Mum Method

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Morning and happy Monday everyone! Impressed with all the achievements here so far.

Level 1: so far, I've only done beds and emptying dishwasher but have a load of laundry ready to go in.

On Mondays I do the office as well as the living room but they both pretty quick. Then I also want to get some ironing done if I can (if I say it here, it may actually happen)

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 10/09/2018 09:29

Glad to see everyone is still doing well and people are still joining us.

2 bags out to the charity shop over the weekend. DDs wardrobe couldn't fit anymore stuff in and there were at least 20 items that no longer fit her - she has grown loads again over the summer!

Washed all shirts and ironed them whilst still wet then left them to finish drying overnight.

Packed all my summer stuff away and dig out my cosy winter wear - it will all need a good wash as it smells stale from the vac bags Confused so I will work on that this week seeing as all the normal washing is done.

Did all the downstairs windows yesterday as I found the karcher window vac thing when I was clearing a cupboard ...... I forgot we had it and it's fantastic!!

Also washed all the cushion covers in the living room as needed something to make a wash worthwhile. DS spilt a whole yogurt down himself so I needed to put it in the wash before it smelt.

And I also changed main bedroom bedding ..... so much for a quiet weekend but feel ahead of myself again now.

I am enjoying the snowball effect this is having, the more I do the more I want to do! Happy Monday!!

Level 1 jobs completed.
Just having a cup of tea before starting the living room. I’m going to try to make a start on the kitchen as I’m working on kitchen day and it smells like something has died in the pantry. Confused

Booksandpens · 10/09/2018 13:28

30 minutes in living room done. I also tried out my new spray mop (just a cheap thing I bought online) I can see me mopping a lot more regularly now I don't have to deal with buckets.

I haven't yet done the level 1 stuff, but they shouldn't take too long.

Luckily we're out all afternoon so I'm hoping my work will still be visible by the time DH comes back from work.

welshmist · 10/09/2018 13:35

First day back at school, so the bathroom it is. Emptied cupboards and found lots of stuff bath/shower smellies which will go to womens refuge. Am going to turn over a room a day I hope.

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd · 10/09/2018 13:36

HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!!

...
....

My house is tidy!
2 DC bedrooms and playroom all clean and tidy at the same time.
The rest of the house is perfectably acceptable.
Thank you fellow TOMMS!

vanillaessence04 · 10/09/2018 13:45

I'm in!

Longtalljosie · 10/09/2018 13:47

Hi there - I'm so pleased I found this thread! I've actually just done day one of bootcamp with a lovely tidy living room - I'm just pretending the other rooms don't exist. Slightly scared about tomorrow and the bedrooms though...

doleritedinosaur · 10/09/2018 13:57

I’ve done ten minutes of living room so far, just waiting to hoover once DC wake up from nap.

I’ve managed to finish painting my downstairs bathroom so everything can go back away once the walls are dry.

Level 1 stuff is mostly done as well & I’ve managed to clean the oven glass door.

Can’t believe how clean & tidy the house is staying over the weekend. This method is definitely the best.

Just signed up to Facebook group and printed off the bootcamp

welshmist · 10/09/2018 14:26

Long tall Josie - 1 bedroom at a time, I could not do them all in one go, so pace yourself.

welshmist · 10/09/2018 14:29

Isn`t it hard not to faff around the house generally, but tell yourself, nope today you are going to clear out the X room. I am so easily sidetracked. When when I think about it. One day without hoovering, tidying about pays dividends when one room is completely cleaned out. I had ornaments on top of bathroom cupboards which came down this morning, they were dust bugs which needed a good wash.

Neenook · 10/09/2018 16:04

Really struggling to get going properly. Think I need to focus on Bootcamp. I've done two loads of washing and made soup (and flapjack) but got distracted with a haircut, taking car for MOT and walking dog. Also on nights this week which makes it harder.

Will try again tomorrow!

Littlechocola · 10/09/2018 16:14

ItWillAllBeOkayInTheEnd Grin
Neenook- I decided that I can’t boot camp at the moment but the level 1 and 2 jobs are a massive improvement. Being on nights is hard but I found that 15 minutes is achievable.

SummersB · 10/09/2018 16:40

Booksandpens oh my god spray mop?!? What wonderful piece of magic do you speak of? I must google immediately!

welshmist I’m the same, I have to force myself to stay in track and ignore all the rest of the rooms/jobs! I also agree with tackling one room at a time, and in fact I break it down even further and just think about one part of the room at a time, otherwise it becomes too overwhelming and I end up just sitting there thinking I can’t do it.

ItWillAllBeOkInTheEnd excellent! I can’t wait to get to that stage!

I am still expecting to finish the Living room today. Did a trip to the recycling centre this morning but on the way on to the charity shop my car exhaust started to sound like it was falling off, so I came back home instead! Will have to get it done pronto - sigh!

On a training day all day tomorrow so will only get level 1 and 2 stuff done instead of a proper Bootcamp day, but I’m off again Wednesday and Thursday before starting night shifts too (hello fellow shift workers!) so two more full days, more or less.

I will also make a list of everyday jobs I want the DCs to do every day, plus I have already announced that on the days when I work day-shifts and am out of the house for 13 hours or so I will leave a list for DCs and DH to complete. So if I do a few days in a row the jobs don’t mount up. I am happy to do the lions share of the housework because due to shift work I cram all my hours into very few days so on my days off it’s easier for me to get stuff done. But I gave them all long speech about how the housework is not just my job, we all live here together and I don’t see why after working a few days in a row I should have to plough through several loads of washing and a house that needs cleaning from top to bottom. To be fair, they are all happy to do their share, they just lack direction Grin So fingers crossed things will get a lot more manageable in the next week or two!

Booksandpens · 10/09/2018 17:00

SummersB it's a mop with a spray bottle on the handle, and a trigger so you put your cleaning solution in the bottle, spray the area in front of you and mop with the microfibre cloth. It's rather handy for light mopping, I haven't tried it on a spill for example, so might be just as good for heavier duty. I think I'll be using it a lot more often so it shouldn't have to deal with too dirty a floor.

Littlechocola · 10/09/2018 17:58

Is it weird to be looking forward to tomorrow’s bedroom clean? Grin

MetallicDandelion · 10/09/2018 18:50

First room done - feeling very proud of myself! Overwhelming anxiety made me fail last week, but as we were done well within the 30 minutes - it feels so manageable. Smile

HalloumiGus · 10/09/2018 19:13

Urgh. Just in from work. First night I am facing rebellion from myself. I am so. Fucking. Tired.

I did make the bed this morning and put on a load of washing which needs chucked into tumble. Going to heat up leftovers for dinner and do a quick bathroom wipe while it's in the microwave. Then just the hoovering which may get delegated to DH.

beela · 10/09/2018 19:44

longtalljosie I feel the same. Living room was fine today but I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by the thought of getting all the bedrooms sorted tomorrow. I think I'll have to bootcamp one at a time and see how I go.

hodgeheg92 · 10/09/2018 19:49

Lots of enthusiasm here today! Well done Summers for getting to the tip, I didn't make it to the charity shop because I want to take my baby's old clothes to a specific one.

Ollivander84 · 10/09/2018 21:29

I fell asleep when I got home Blush was mega tired. Just cleaning the main bathroom now so that's done at least!
No cleaning tomorrow but will do living room on Wednesday Grin

JessicaPeach · 10/09/2018 21:34

I’ve been loosely following the method since just before the summer hols and it’s been going well. First proper day at school for my ds today so this is the first time I’ve done the 30 mins in just one room and with the playlist on. The playlist really made me speed up, it was amazing, almost can’t wait for clean sheet Tuesday tomorrow!

SummersB · 10/09/2018 21:58

Booksandpens that sounds really handy. I think I might look into getting one, I hate mopping usually.

hodgeheg92 I felt I needed to make the effort because I had promised on here Grin

Lovely to read about everyone’s progress! JessicaPeach I will have to try the playlists, haven’t bothered so far because they are only half an hour long and the bootcamping is taking all day and more, but I’m looking forward to using them to get through the regular level 1 and 2 days (if I ever get there).

JessicaPeach · 10/09/2018 22:00

Summers do you ever watch her sped up videos on insta? I felt like I was in one which I think made me go faster!
