Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge: Part 4

StealthNinjaMum · 06/07/2018 14:14

And the decluttering continues…

For 3,000 posts we have been slowly transforming our homes from hovels to palaces.

We’re not quite there yet some of us are further than others but we won’t give up until we have a decluttered existence.

We just get rid of one thing a day and report back to showoff for support and to be told off when we’re naughty and bring more clutter back into our homes, gardens, sheds, garages.

As ever newbies are welcome to join us.

I'm shuffling in if that's ok?

I've had my house a year and it's got full of crap already. I'm in the middle of my 5yo daughters riom being decorated. But everything including new furniture should be in by Friday night.
First plan is to filter what goes back in there.
Then start on my room.

PenelopeFlintstone · 01/08/2018 22:22

Hi RatbagCatbag Smile

grumpypug · 02/08/2018 08:27

Another lovely day out yesterday, so no decluttering done. Asked youngest DS what he would like to do today and he said "Sort my toys out" ShockShockShock

I may be some time........

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 02/08/2018 10:43

Another mega work day for me yesterday so nothing really decluttered apart from a couple of used up items in the bathroom into recycling - an old primer and a tiny tube of neck cream. Also went round and picked up a few bits to bung in the recycle bin - empty hand wash bottle, toilet roll tube etc.

Cleaning day today so let's see what we find! Smile

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 02/08/2018 10:43

Ok and good luck grumpypug, nice to see your decluttering is rubbing off on the family!

bobgoblin · 02/08/2018 11:25

Nothing major decluttered over the last few days just a lot of cleaning and tidying. Lots of rubbish and papers decluttered into the bins or recycling. DS found 3 broken toys and quite happily binned them which is progress. He would normally try and keep them. I also now have a box of things for ebay which I will list when we get back from holiday.

I’m going to start packing our holiday things today so I’ll see if there is anything I can declutter as I go along.

BuffysFavouriteStake · 02/08/2018 16:00

God I'm useless. Between the heat and extra work shifts I can see the house slipping back even more out of control. Again. Fed up.

But still, here to cheer you all on, you are doing brilliantly! Hope your move goes well Nofilter, more pony pics may be needed Wink. Three cheers for you all going strong in the summer holidays, love that the rest of families are starting to get involved! Can I borrow your DS pls Grumpypug ?!!?

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/08/2018 22:15

A box of school uniforms left the house on Monday but some may come back. Hope not.

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 02/08/2018 23:02

Cleaning day today - concentrated on downstairs for visitors - so I've mostly decluttered dust dirt and enough dog hair to stuff a duvet. King size🙈 cleared out one food cupboard and got rid of some out of date packets/baking stuff. Also got rid of old fridge magnets, a dead plant and more papers from the kitchen.
Hopefully get more actual decluttering done tomorrow.

SandAndSea · 03/08/2018 01:28

I've got some catching up to do.
Today's items:

A cat scratcher - recycled.
A lovely skirt - no one bought it so I've given it to a friend.
3 packets of seeds - also to a friend.

I have also repurposed an empty drawer - it is now my exercise drawer for my yoga mat etc. It's been empty for quite a while whilst my yoga mat has been kept out. I don't know why I didn't think of this before - it's so obvious and works really well.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/08/2018 06:23

I was going to give away a pair of two-sizes-too-big harem pants today, but maybe I should see if I can make them smaller. They're grey and make me look like a baggy-arsed elephant from behind.

SandAndSea · 03/08/2018 09:28

I've been catching up on recent threads. Good luck with the move, @Nofilter ! Very impressed to read how much you've made.

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts - 40??!!! Wow! That's amazing! Star

Surprised to see we had a deleted post. I don't think we've ever had one of those before.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/08/2018 11:35

I don't think we have either! What was it about?

PurpleFrog · 03/08/2018 14:08

It was someone supposedly doing research wanting people to complete a survey about what to do with children’s clothes when they are finished with them.

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 03/08/2018 14:46

I love those 💡 moments sandandsea. I'm hoping we can move a lot of stuff into the garage if I ever persuade DH to help me clear it

GirlfriendInAKorma · 03/08/2018 20:03

I found some more clothes that DD2 doesn't like and a few toys that were in the attic and completely forgotten about this week - so hat have gone to charity shop.

Also got rid of DD2s massive stash of washable nappies.

Have bagged up some shoes that are too small for DDs for a friend who will most likely want them.

Also got rid of some empty boxes from the attic from god only knows what... bits of obsolete technology as far as I could tell.

Tonight ate food out of the freezer that really needed eating up...!

lljkk · 03/08/2018 20:09

DS PE shorts are tiny! Into charity shop pile.
Plus sold some GCSE textbooks, and something for school PTA, even :)

NamedyChangedy · 03/08/2018 20:25

I'd like to join please. I've been trying to declutter for a few years now - I had some Kondo successes with clothes but stuff just makes its way back into the house. Sad
Today I emptied a toy box full of tat that we were given but my DCs never once played with.

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 04/08/2018 01:50

Welcome namedychangedy

I got called into work unexpectedly so didn't have much of a chance today. Did declutter my purse of lots of old receipts while waiting for a client. Found some stamps, always handy!
Also cleared one kitchen cupboard - lots of out of date juice, fizzy water and beer bottles that DH had bought and drunk some/a bit/none of and then put back/forgotten. Put them all on the kitchen table, estimated the cost and told him. He's a bit shocked at the waste! Maybe seeing them all in a group will motivate him more to only buy what he needs each time.

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/08/2018 07:45

Thanks PurpleFrog.

HalfaHunner - doesn't he put opened juice in the fridge? It would ferment at my place. And opening a beer and putting it back? Never heard of that either. Well done for clearing them out, anyway.

Gone: an odd Volley and a cookbook.

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 04/08/2018 09:22

Hi penelope yes we do keep fresh fruit juice in the fridge. Sorry we are in far north Scotland so it's (usually) pretty cold up here and we also use the word "juice" colloquially to mean stuff like squash or coke.
Husband is from west coast Scotland - anything like that is called "ginger" or "juice" no matter what it is. So it was mostly coke and Crabbies ginger beer/real ale type stuff!

GirlfriendInAKorma · 04/08/2018 12:03

Cleared out 2 boxes from the attic. A bag of kitchen bits for the charity shop and 2 things listed to sell on Facebook.

Also found a broken ornament that had been packed away that my DFather bought me and he died 10 years ago :( think I need to throw it away as there's a piece missing.

SandAndSea · 04/08/2018 13:18

Today's items:

Several ood foods inc: a biscuit, a flake, some leftover fancy salad, wasabi paste, quinoa and 2 x white peppers. (One of the peppers was dated 2014 and I have literally no idea how it slipped through the previous culls.)

A container and 8 lids.

We are also planning some gorilla gardening (I think that's what it's called) to get rid of some wildflower seeds.

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/08/2018 13:31

Thanks HalfaHunner - interesting and enlightening Smile

SandAndSea · 04/08/2018 15:41

@Halfahunnerstillastunner - I've done that before (with DP's many deodorants). It was surprisingly effective. I think it can really help to group like things together like that. They can just go unseen otherwise.
.
.

I'm kicking myself again for another 'cheap' eBay purchase which is going to be very time wasting. (Cue: photos, complaint message etc just to claim a few quid back.)
