Cleaning vids on youtube

Im addicted. Mainly american women cleaning their whole house. They have barely any "stuff", seem to use amazing gadgets and special cleaning products. And they all have these very flat shiny hardwood floors throughout which they go over with one soak of the mophead.

I thought it would motivate me to clean but I just end up watching them in amongst a mess.

Can you point me to the esse tial oils down the sink vid please? FlowersGrinBlush

trigger2 · 11/07/2018 22:25

I think that’s on How Jen Does It - once she’s finished cleaning the sink she just puts down afew drops of oil. I think that’s it, at last I’ve done that the last couple of days and notice the difference odour wise

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 13/07/2018 06:53

Ah, thank you.

AuntieStella · 13/07/2018 06:57

I'm a dreadful housekeeper.

Would these vids be likely to motivate me, or is it just like workout DVDs watched from the sofa?

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 13/07/2018 07:14

I do find them motivating. I watch with a sort of fearful fascination for a few minutes and then think, oh, I could do that, won't take long to run the hoover round.

PlausibleSuit · 13/07/2018 07:24

I did not know that this was a thing.

I now do.

I have already written to Method asking why - WHYYYYYYYY - we don't have their lime and sea salt multipurpose cleaner in the UK and it's not even 7.30am.

Ob.
Sessed.

trigger2 · 13/07/2018 12:13

Haha yes I priced that lime Method one on amazon - err no !

I find them motivating, I switch them on and do some cleaning, watch some more, do some more etc. It’s certainly helped get me more motivated to have a daily routine.
To be honest, separating cleaning and tidying stuff away - I’d rather clean, I can’t be arsed with all my husband’s clutter !

JiltedJohnsJulie · 14/07/2018 22:11

Ok so now you’ve got me hooked as well. So I’ve watched the one with the essential oils but can’t work out which oils she’s putting down her sink. If you’re doing it, which ones are you using?

Sitranced · 14/07/2018 22:29

I found one of these on a random suggested video and I've been hooked ever since. I can't stand the American narration so I mute them most of the time.

AWomanIsAnAdultHumanFemale · 14/07/2018 22:32

Ooh this is the thread for me!! I already watch Jen and few of the others. Thanks for the recommendations. Totally addictive and totally motivational. I love these videos.

anyideasonthis · 14/07/2018 22:37

Oh. My. God. I can"t believe this is a thing!! Thank you OP!

tastylancs · 15/07/2018 07:46

Just watched my first Jen video! She was dusting her wooden floors but they were immaculate before she even started. I saw one bit of dust in one room and it was quite exciting wondering whether she would get it. She did. Might just watch one more...

JiltedJohnsJulie · 18/07/2018 20:45

@NapQueen do you know which essential oil she puts down her sink? Not that I’ve spent days watching videos. Oh no, not me Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/07/2018 17:02

Sorry wrong link. That link was for the cleaning challenge I’m working my way upto starting on Monday. Don’t hold your breath though Grin

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/07/2018 17:04

And now I’ve posted on the wrong bloody thread. I give up this week, I’m hopeless! Blush

WutheringFrights · 23/07/2018 07:18

I saw this thread a few days ago and was going to post but three days later I’m still lost in a downward spiral of cleaning videos and day in the life of videos.

Last night after a pretty horrific bedtime with my DC I watched a beautiful, calm, happy lady with an immaculate house put her three happy, well mannered, children to bed without a raised voice or grumpy word.

They watched their tablets while she was sorting other children and brushed their teeth in their beds... 😱

I have got bedtime so so wrong!

But in good news my ‘pantry’ is now tidy and organised and I can see our bedroom floor for the first time in 7 months!

andalittlebitofpixiedust · 23/07/2018 08:31

Wuthering Grin

I often notice the expression on the children's faces though. I saw a clutterbug one about summer crafts (absolutely brilliant btw) in which the children actually don't really succeed in making them, often look like they are annoyed, or about to chuck it all on the floor, and the use of judicious editing means it all looks super lovely.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/07/2018 17:58

I haven’t seen that one Wuthering. By the sounds of it, it may have tipped me over the edge...Grin

I’ve started the decluttering challenge on How Jen Does it today. First day took me all of 2 mins and I’ve spent the rest of the day feeling smug.

Doubt I’ll be so smug when it gets around to our bedroom though 😷

ProfessorMoody · 23/07/2018 18:09

OP, what have you done?!

WutheringFrights · 23/07/2018 18:27

Decluttering challenge you say......well that’s tonights entertainment sorted.

By the way I am just about to implement Mrs happychops bedtime routine .... I will report back...

Mynamesblurryface · 23/07/2018 18:37

I watch these cleaning video's and Costco/Sam's club hauls. Amazes me how much America has when it comes to food and consumerism the UK is extremely modest and sensible in comparison

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/07/2018 19:27

Wuthering it starts here. I haven’t watched all of it though, don’t want to get over excited Grin

@ProfessorMoody it’s a good job it’s only Cleaning vids and not crack cocaine that @NapQueen is peddling, she’s got us well and truly hooked. Do you think she’s Jen incognito? Smile

Mynames I haven’t watched any of the haul ones yet. My kitchen is so tiny that I can’t store much and I think it would make me a bit Envy

WutheringFrights · 23/07/2018 19:39

Less than an hour later... my children have had a bath, I’ve washed, brushed (!) and dried their hair, they have sparkly clean teeth, they put clothes in relevant laundry baskets, they watched their tablets and had a bedtime story.
Admittedly DS(5) is singing a sad song in his room but they are both in bed and I haven’t raised my voice or lost the plot at all 😂
Now I’m going to immerse myself in decluttering videos. I have a cleaning company coming to do a deep clean for the first time ever next week - I need to get the house spotless first 😂😂😂😂

JiltedJohnsJulie · 23/07/2018 19:44

Well done on the bedtime Wuthering. My youngest should be going to bed soon but is still baking. God knows what state she’ll be in, never mind the kitchen.

I have a cleaning company coming to do a deep clean for the first time ever next week - I need to get the house spotless first 😂😂😂😂. Yiu do know your logic might be slightly flawed here don’t you Grin

SassitudeandSparkle · 23/07/2018 19:44

I also found How Jen Does It a week ago and loved it - she does base her zone cleaning on Flylady methods. Her new home is lovely and yes, I'd agree that her first house is quite small by American standards and it's nice to see both of them!

I'm going to watch the Clutterbug ones now too ...
