Getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge: Part 3: Are we nearly there yet?

StealthNinjaMum · 09/05/2018 08:45

For 2000 posts a group of messy mumsnetters have been chucking out, selling, recycling and cooking weird cakes.

Are we free of clutter yet? Sadly not.

Thankfully we're here to get support and be told off when we have a relapse and bring more clutter into the house, garages, sheds, gardens.

Newbies are welcome to join us, it's easy we literally just get rid of one thing a day and report back.

Ooh, please can I join you?

I've just redecorated ds' room while he was away on a school residential & I've stealthily removed SO much junk!

Luckily he loves it - it's currently the tidiest & least cluttered room in the house although it's still quite cluttered!

Going to tackle our room next!

IHateYourCarpet · 15/06/2018 20:44

Yay to underoak and sneaky decluttering Grin ! It's so nice having one decent room isn't it? Is there a lot in your bedroom?

It's always lovely when people turn to to get stuff isn't it Stealth? I think I'm going to follow your lead on this one, give everything one final push, then off to the charity shop it goes.

Brutus that's the sort of thing I'd keep because it's easy to tuck away and forget about Smile when's the baby due?

Ugh, things like that dive me mad Keith! I try not to have games for that exact reason.

You can do it purple! I know it's super tedious, but you'll have so much free space when it's gone.

Another migraine, so not achieved heaps today. Probably cleaned 10000 hamster turds off the counter where the cage was. Binned DS's bath sponge, he's too old to lay on it now, and cleared some general junk from the kitchen. All the surfaces are clear now. And used up three more sample sachets of bare minerals stuff.

I'll have a quick look round before bed, see what I can find to dispose of.

SandAndSea · 15/06/2018 21:12

I have added some old PJs to the charity bag today but generally speaking, my 'clutter clearing' has been more diy-ish recently. I've finally replaced the shower head and hose which will help lift the bathroom and I'm all ready to revamp the decking this weekend.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/06/2018 21:42

Brutus you've reminded me that there's a changing mat stashed behind the settee that I don't use! That can go on the ever growing pile of outgrown toys/clothes/equipment.

Not achieved much today but I have arranged to give away a show jacket that I'll never fit into again! Will drop it off tomorrow. Am also dropping off sone unused baby bottles to someone .

I suppose today I did go through a pile of papers and did the bin/shred/keep thing.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/06/2018 21:44

I'm joining you to stealth in the sell or charity shop stuff. I'm going to a table top sale in a few weeks and will take all the kids stuff, what doesn't sell will be given to the charity shop. I can't be doing with it cluttering the place up any longer.

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/06/2018 21:46

Oh and I'm.just waiting for the clothing collection bag to drop through the door, the one we get recycles old clothes and I have some threadbare maternity stuff set aside to go in it.

I love reading what you all have been up to. I've somehow ended up with the app version of mn on my phone which means I can't read and reply at the same time though.

Nofilter · 15/06/2018 21:59

Emptied a full bag of rubbish out of my pot which I didn’t do when I cleaned my car. Sorted though my shoes and taken photos of two I won pairs of Boden flats!

I’ll list them shortly.. pottered around just collecting things to throw/pack - progress.

This concept is making it palatable - rather thank doing nothing as I get overwhelmed picking up bits here and there make me feel motivated!!

The simple things huh!!

X

Nofilter · 15/06/2018 22:01

That happened to me not and I had to find where it said “desktop site” or “full site” think it was along the bottom somewhere...

Loving reading the thread too ;-)

rainbowfudgee · 15/06/2018 22:10

For the navy feature wall- deckchair stripes (blue and white) or glitter paint?

I've done well this week. Bag if worn out clothes to recycling clothes bin. Ditched some old toys that aren't played with any more. Went through sock drawer and culled. Pile of kids' clothes for charity. Chucked old sheet with holes in.

In laws are coming tomorrow afternoon so I need to do a clutter sweep and clean tomorrow morning. It will make me feel better though.

StealthNinjaMum · 15/06/2018 22:24

I got mean tonight. Dd2 has two dressing gowns and she left them both on her bedroom floor. I told her she is too messy and despite her protestations put one in a charity shop bag and said if her bedroom has too much stuff I will throw it away!

I also put more children's books in a bag.

Just had a sort out of books too - a last energy surge for the day and 14 for charity shop!

#progress

Just need to work through the wardrobes now! I have 30 blankets for DD! She’s now 2 and not being carried around wrapped in one - bleurgh!

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/06/2018 23:00

Nofilter I have a stack of Muslins that haven't been used for yonks. I keep trying To think of an alternative use.. . .

NCPuffin · 15/06/2018 23:01

I threw out some candles that had melted into puddles of wax. Not much, but I also tried to throw out bits of rubbish that accumulate everywhere, like the plastic wrappers for greeting cards and empty envelopes. Feels OK! Am intending to get rid of a lot of stuff tomorrow as we're going into town so it's a good opportunity to declutter and take things straight to the charity shop. Need to see if it actually happens first thoughSmile

PenelopeFlintstone · 16/06/2018 07:24

An ancient pack of vitamins is gone.

CMH123 · 16/06/2018 07:45

Can I join in please? Today I'm
aiming on unpacking the last 3 kitchen boxes, sorting a charity bag and 5 things on ebay.

PenelopeFlintstone · 16/06/2018 09:46

Hi CMH123 Smile

IHateYourCarpet · 16/06/2018 10:17

What's everyone aiming to get done today Grin ?

I'm planning on decluttering some fabric today, cushions and a tag toy for DS I think to save him chomping on my dressing gown ribbon tie thing!

I'd really like to tackle the dining room too - it's a dumping ground at the moment, even though it's supposed to be my office.

Sigh... I really need to decide if I'm closing down or not this weekend too. Or if I'm going to give it one more big push with some new ranges.

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/06/2018 10:39

I haven't much planned for today but after the children are in bed I'm going to go through a pile in the dining room. It's a struggle to get anything do e with a 1 and 2 yr old I find!

UnderTheOakTree · 16/06/2018 11:23

I am going to take all the junk I cleared from ds' room out of my room & take it to the charity shop, along with a bag of clothes & some other random bits! 😇

PenelopeFlintstone · 16/06/2018 12:15

I'm going to do:
my car boot
30 mins in the office
30 mins in the playroom/junk room
a couple of kitchen cupboards

Thanks for asking, IHYCarpet. It's spurred me to write a list and that's about 20% there! Smile

DesertIslandPenguin · 16/06/2018 13:30

I did a quick fire round of decluttering with DS. His collection of rocks has gone amidst moans about how will we start a fire in the apocalypse. I think the apocalypse is much more likely to happen if they stay!! Big pile of jigsaws in the charity bag, some stuff suitable for WI tombola set to one side, and several tidy shelves in the bedroom.

I have also filed a bunch of post that's been sitting in the hallway for ages. I don't think I need to keep the baby book to hand any more 😂

I am now going to go and declutter a sandwich into my tummy!

SandAndSea · 16/06/2018 16:12

We've started on the decking. It's been well scrubbed and soaked in algae remover. We now have to wait 2-3 days for it to work and pray it doesn't rain too much.

I'm counting algae as my item for the day. Grin

IHateYourCarpet · 16/06/2018 16:31

Today is failing miserably. DH lost my bank card, and credit card in Reading yesterday. Really not a big deal but he's quite upset about it Sad wasted a lot of the day looking for them both. I can't believe it's 16:30!

DS is hopefully just going down for a nap, so I'll try to do some bits then.

Sparrowlegs248 · 16/06/2018 16:45

Sold the baby bottles and threw a load of other stuff in for free so better than expected so far today. Chucked a couple of small items in the bin too.

IHateYourCarpet · 16/06/2018 17:03

Ofttt! Genius lotta Grin I tried that with the lady that was buying my cot but she didn't want 'none of em' boy clothes'.

I really want to go tackle the dining room but DS is currently playing hide and seek with my dressing gown Hmm rather than napping!
