My house is untidy. There is clutter. I find it difficult to know where to start. The daily FLY threads on here scare me, what with all the lists and, as friendly as they are, they all know each other already.

I want a fly thread for people new to fly. I propose to start this on Wesnesday with this

I will buy rubber gloves. I work three days a week and Wed is one of my days at home.

Anyone up for this. Come join the slummy-mummy support thread, and we can see if it really works for us?

Please

I would join you, but I work Weds- Fri. Could try it the other 4 days, but then we wont be in sync.

fryalot · 30/04/2007 21:43

ok, norma, I'll join in with you.

BUT: I tried fly once before and I spent so much time reading the 456 emails that I got every day, I never had any time left for housework

Nikki76 · 30/04/2007 21:44

Aww! My sink is already shiny but......the desk I'm typing on is a complete pit with paperwork everywhere and endless crap that needs shredding so.....maybe I should start with that?!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/04/2007 21:49

Well - with babysteps you just do a little bit every day so if you work the getting dressed bit should be a doddle. I intend to start on my day off, but you could do the sink shine a day early bursting?

I feel that I would do better with some support

it seems like an interesting experiment - nothing else has ever worked so it is worth a try/.... (though when I had an au pair that was quite good )

mumtogusnalbie · 30/04/2007 21:52

not really sure how this works but looking at each day it would seem that all you have to do for the first 4 days is shine your sink and do your hair?!!! My house is a mess and I will be keeping an eye on this thread but not sure whether shining my sink every day is going to get me motivated!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/04/2007 22:03

Ahh well... I have been trying to keep my sink empty for the last few days. And it has made a difference. I don't think that you have to limit yourself to the sink, by all means do the rest of your house, but I want to see where it leads - and I have not cheated and read the rest of the days.

MrsCellophane · 30/04/2007 22:10

I'll join you! Are we checking this thread each day then?

MrsCellophane · 30/04/2007 22:10

And which sink do we shine?

burstingbug · 30/04/2007 22:14

Ok, will make a start tomorrow and clean up kitchen & bathroom sink.
I find cleaning the bathroom the least stressful part of the house

seeker · 30/04/2007 22:25

Oh yes please! I did this last year and I was amazed at how it worked. Then came Christmas and the 11+ and everything went haywire. I did the daily missions and I made a control journal - but I threw it away in a temper so I'll have to make another one. In fact, I think I'll go and shine my sink now, then come back and see if anyone else has posted on this thread!

wheresthemerlot · 30/04/2007 22:26

Ah, the idea is that the shiny sink makes the drainer look icky so then you clean that then the counters.... the oven... etc

then you burst out of the kitchen and blitz the house 15mins at a time .

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/04/2007 22:27

no no no no - don't shine yet - I am gathering troops so we can all start together on wednesday!

Oh - go on then

But you have to wait to progress with the rest of us!

OP posts:
burstingbug · 30/04/2007 22:28

Norma, I gotta start tomorrow - that is a day early

MrsCellophane · 30/04/2007 22:29

me too, Burstingbug. But that's cos it's only 1 week old and I'm a bit obsessive about keeping it clean at the mo. In fact, you could eat your dinner off my loo... prob cleaner than the kitchen!

I fecking freaked when I went upstairs on the day it was finished - I found skid marks! AAAAGH! Went off on one at DH ("that blardy loo's only been plumbed in 3 hours!") Should point out at this juncture, that the marks didn't belong to him - they were from the contents of DS2's nappy).. TMI I know, but feel better for getting that off my chest.

wheresthemerlot · 30/04/2007 22:30

I'm a bit of a flylady already but I'll join in on Weds. Gives me a day to think about shining my sink (I've not done that yet). I prefer dashing around with the hoover in the bits that I can reach without shifting furniture .

burstingbug · 30/04/2007 22:36

MrsC

sorkycake · 30/04/2007 22:39

Oh go on then, reluctantly, count me in.
I could do with this as my house is a hovel, but I'm NOT getting the emails. I refuse to do a journal and I don't like wearing shoes (birkies will do). God I'm wanting to get a cleaner so much it hurts, but then I'd clean up out of shame before she got here I just know it.
Today I cleaned my sink but now it's filthy again. Might do it before I go to bed. Away tomorrow, so will start on Wednesday with NSF if that's okay?
Are we checking what the FLY woman sets as a mission or room a week?

EllieKthePA · 30/04/2007 22:41

my house is a tip too and i really need to fix it so count me in

swedishmum · 30/04/2007 22:51

I'd love to join in too as I'm so sick of being embarrassed about the state of the house. Clutter is our big problem. That and the 4 kids...
I actually signed upto the emails this morning (difft email account from normal) and sent dh out to buy me a new Dyson yesterday (I know that's really sad). This so isn't me, but I have to do something to get out of this dump.
I'm working Wed am and have 7.30 and 8.30 school runs so have to work round it but I'm definitely keen to join.

seeker · 30/04/2007 22:51

OK, my sink's shiny. But everything else is a DISASTER! And I can't, just can't wear shoes in the house. And I don't want the emails either - but I think it's a good idea to check the site for the daily missions. I found that quite fun - bit then, I do have a very sad life!

seeker · 30/04/2007 22:54

This is really sad - but I think it's important to do it the way she says.I started to go wrong when I thought I could adapt it - it just didn't work. I figure that if I was the sort of person who could change the system effectively, then I wouldn't be in this mess in the first place!

OK, count me in too - keep meaning to rejoin the fly thing, but like you feel a bit intimidated. Tried it for a few weeks & it did work well, but then dd had some health issues & lost impetus.
May not do a great job Weds/Thurs as will be v busy with work both those days ... but see me fly on Friday...
[hopeful emoticon]

NormaStanleyFletcher · 30/04/2007 23:03

OK - I am off to bed now. We will all just follow the babysteps to begin with - I have signed up for the emails and will post what is in them here - so you don't need to if you don't want them.

We can do it

yay
