????? Is your house a wreck? Mine is. Shall we sort it out with Fly lady's baby steps. Maybe????????

My house is untidy. There is clutter. I find it difficult to know where to start. The daily FLY threads on here scare me, what with all the lists and, as friendly as they are, they all know each other already.

I want a fly thread for people new to fly. I propose to start this on Wesnesday with this

I will buy rubber gloves. I work three days a week and Wed is one of my days at home.

Anyone up for this. Come join the slummy-mummy support thread, and we can see if it really works for us?

Please

(I have signed up for the emails and will post what is in them here)

PLEASE NOTE The FLYLady website/email content are copyrighted, she allows links to the information on her website but does not allow it to be pasted onto another site.

Luckily most of the emails have a link which of course you can paste onto here, without encounting problems.

Sorry to interfer but Mumsnet doesn;t need any further legal issues ATM ;)

I ws trying to "Fly" too but found the e-mails annoying. And I ignore the dressed to shoes bit as I wear slippers in the house!

Then I tried following the Fly threads on here but lost impetus - they are a lovely bunch though - just haven't time to read all the threads and keep up with the rest of MN too!

So I just check on the daily link to see what room we are doing and what the mission is - if it is something I need to do I do it - sometimes!

Unfortunately my house is one big hotspot!

SimplySparkling · 01/05/2007 08:12

Hi there! I'm a regular on the FLY threads and I just wanted to wish you lots of luck in your quest to a tidier house. The FLY threads work for me and I hope this thread works well for you.

NormaStanleyFletcher I suggested an au pair to dh last night and he seemed agreeable! I can see myself spending time on the au pair threads and frightening myself half to death with all that can happen, but hopefully doing it anyway.

Oh, and btw, my name is meant to be ironic! You had to be there to find it at all funny, though!

Flamesparrow · 01/05/2007 08:22

Ello.

swedishmum · 01/05/2007 08:25

When I went to make a drink last night I cleared the sink. It was nice to come down to this morning. Also forgot I tidied my bathroom till I went in. Dh is getting very worried - thinks the people from Stepford have been round. I've told him there's far more to come.

glassslipper · 01/05/2007 08:35

hi. i frequent the fly threads but not as often as when i was nesting when pregnant I now have a 4 month old which makes it very hard so I might dip in here every now and again if you'll have me

will go back to babysteps...

NormaStanleyFletcher · 01/05/2007 09:04

BabiesEverywhere - good point regarding the threads. Hello everyone else

I am at work at the moment so will pop back at lunchtime!

Good point regarding the links I meant

Norma, count me in! Wednesdays are good for me. (heck, all days are good for me, am a SAHM - till Sept, then I will have to find some work as my youngest iwill be at school.....boohoo)

So, I do nothing today (happy emoticon) and then we start Wednesday with shining our sinks?

Sounds fab - what will we call our thread? The true Flyladies (the ones that have been doing it already) call it Friday Fly, Weekend Fly etc. We will need to differentiate ourselves a bit, otherwise I will end up trying to join the main fly thread and panic at how much they get done!!

BabiesEverywhere · 01/05/2007 10:09

What about 'Monday Baby Fly' ?

SimplySparkling · 01/05/2007 10:23

That's an idea BE. Or NSF's Alternative Monday Fly? Make sure you link the next day's thread to the end of the previous day's thread so that people can follow you to the new thread easily using the "threads I'm on" facility, too.

kinki · 01/05/2007 10:44

I think I'll give it a go too. Thanks NSF. I tried the main fly for a while but lost impetus too. I reckon slow and steady is the way to go. However, I do anticipate throwing a sickie on the tidy your desk day, and the sort your paperwork day, oh and the sort out all the kid's old toys day, umm and the tidy the cupboard under the stairs day...... to name just a few. Is this cheating? I'm trying hard to jump onto my pregnancy nesting bandwagon, so now's a good time as any to get started I suppose.

NineUnlikelyTales · 01/05/2007 10:54

Norma it's a shame if people don't join in with the FLY threads because they think everyone already knows each other. I joined a few weeks ago and everyone was very friendly to me from the start, and anyone who posts is always made welcome.

Just so as you all know, like

BabiesEverywhere · 01/05/2007 11:18

Ditto NUT. I am new to the main FLY threads and everyone is very friendly and welcoming.

But I think it is a great idea to have a babysteps new to flying group as well, if it helps people.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 01/05/2007 12:52

Oh! I never meant to say that the current FLY thread ladies aren't welcoming and loveley - I know they are as I have heard it said quite a few times! It is just a bit daunting when it moves that fast and they all seem to know all about it already, and my house/organisation is only up to baby steps and I thought it might be fun not to do it alone

Hopefully we baby-steppers will come and join the grown-ups at some point

NineUnlikelyTales · 01/05/2007 13:31

Oh yes the more threads the better

Don't visit my house today though or you might find I'm not grown up enough to belong to the other thread

glassslipper · 01/05/2007 13:41

hi guys, i've not actually managed anything since breakfast as i've been out. but i will empty the dishwasher later, reload and then shine my sink.

have to go out to Drs with Dds though so it wont happen all at once.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 01/05/2007 13:45

Im in

Spidermama · 01/05/2007 13:47

Yup.

I'm in.

prettymum · 01/05/2007 13:48

count me in, i tried the other thread before but felt lost and subscribed to the flylady emails, couldnt keep up. this should be fun

hippipotami · 01/05/2007 19:57

When do I shine my sink? Tonight? (looking panicked emoticon)

glassslipper · 01/05/2007 20:03

yep. then it will be lovely and sparkly when you come down in the morning

sorkycake · 01/05/2007 20:06

My sink is shiny! but only because it hasn't been used all day, we've been out for Dd's birthday .
However, tomorrow it'll be a different matter no doubt.
My current routine seems to be give up the fight during the day and scrape the thick of it off at night when the kids have gone to bed.
I find ironing is the worst area. I do a load of washing (everyday it seems), but never seem to get round to ironing it, then all of a sudden it's become a monsterous pile which takes 2-3 hours of my life to clear. Any tips?
What's your worst area?

singersgirl · 01/05/2007 20:08

I am a lapsed FlyPerson, and it really did work before Christmas. I keep meaning to start again, and have kept some of the routines going eg getting dressed as soon as I get up, laundry on, dishwasher emptied.

Will check in from time to time if I might.

Oblomov · 01/05/2007 20:13

Well I'd like to make a suggestion.
Don't bother with this 5 mins hers, 15 minutes there.
You have to be in the right frame of mind. And then you just go for it.

I did a whole days worth. In preparation for the estate agent coming to value house. And since then, once it was all spangly, and I was feeling WELL proud of myself, I have managed to keep constantly on top of it, for the last 4 days.

If one technique doesn't work for you, and you house is always a tip, then we need to find new techniques !!
