????? Is your house a wreck? Mine is. Shall we sort it out with Fly lady's baby steps. Maybe????????

My house is untidy. There is clutter. I find it difficult to know where to start. The daily FLY threads on here scare me, what with all the lists and, as friendly as they are, they all know each other already.

I want a fly thread for people new to fly. I propose to start this on Wesnesday with this

I will buy rubber gloves. I work three days a week and Wed is one of my days at home.

Anyone up for this. Come join the slummy-mummy support thread, and we can see if it really works for us?

Please

sorkycake- i have the same problem as you, my pile of ironing keeps growing and after spending around 2-3hours ironing them i keep telling myself im going to iron as soon as the clothes are dry instead of letting it pile up, but it never happens!

chirpygirl · 01/05/2007 20:18

Am I too late? I've been away for nearly a week and DH has (of course) done bugger all!
I took 2 bin bags of dry rubbish (mailshots, election leaflets, food wrappers, random boxes etc) out of the front room today and I think it's time DD wasn't living in squalor!

chirpygirl · 01/05/2007 20:22

Have just read the FLY and am thinking I have already taken on too much!
On way home from playgroup tomorrow I have to buy:
A plug for the sink
Bleach
Ajax or equivalent
Window cleaner
and Rubber Gloves

sorkycake · 01/05/2007 20:25

I'm gonna be okay with the sorting aspect, it's the actual cleaning part I'm not so good at. I have a great fondness for storage [shame].
I'm less enamoured with scrubbing.

hippipotami · 01/05/2007 20:33

OMG - I have to shine my sink tonight , I was revelling in the thought of doing nothing until tomorrow.

Right, how does one shine a granite composite sink. Worst of all, it is navy blue, so everything shows up, esp. limescale.... bleurgh...

Hopeitwontbebig · 01/05/2007 20:33

good idea, will give it a go...... so, I can leave my sink until tomorrow night right?

chirpygirl · 01/05/2007 20:35

Don't worry Hippo, I can't do anything tonight! DD is asleep, DH is at work and I have shopping to do before I can clean...!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 01/05/2007 20:42

Ok y'all. DD is finally asleep. I am back

The plan for tomorrow is baby step 1 shine your sink

I think you really, really are meant to sign up for the emails. I have. And some of the targets on subsequent days (yes I cheated!) are to read some of the emails.

Here are the instructions on how to shine your sink

Are we all ready?

I subscribed to flylady mails and spent half my day reading them and no cleaning! I then changed them to daily digest so I only get one per day aith them all in it iyswim, but now I just delete it and my sink is a mess again!!!

sorkycake · 01/05/2007 20:54

Sparkymummy I did exactly the same! I got sick of the emails and just kept deleting them. BUT I did have a system back then....wish I could remember what it was LOL.
Are we sticking rigidly to what she says? How long before we move on from sink cleaning to tackling the mess?

BabiesEverywhere · 01/05/2007 20:54

Cleaning granite composite sinks

sorkycake · 01/05/2007 20:58

My sink is the same, thanks for that link. Kids are in bed so I'm off to shovel the toys away and clean my sink

funnypeculiar · 01/05/2007 21:00

right, so we're shining sinks tonight?! Just let me do this little bit of work first... [panicing emoticon]
Um, can I leave the washing up on one side? away from the sink (spot the class cheat..)

Londonmamma · 01/05/2007 21:10

Hi - I spent years and I mean years trying to bring some order to my household. I'd employ a cleaner once a week then have a mad few hours before she came stuffing things in cupboards and drawers, after which I'd spend the next week trying to find everything again...

I did eventually learn to declutter and my household is now fairly orderly. I've recently joined FLY.

My top tip for you is this: Have a master to-do list where you note everything down that needs doing. But on here, list say two jobs you're going to do, do them, then come and tell everyone you've done them. You'll get congratulated and it will spur you on to the next one or two jobs. Don't forget to reward yourself.

Good luck!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 01/05/2007 21:22

Shining the sink is for tomorrow! Feel free to do it tonight but tomorrow is the official start!

GreebosWhiskers · 01/05/2007 21:36

Can I join in too? I've never heard of this before but my entire house is a complete howk & I have to do something.
With regards to the sink - ours is an awful plastic thing that was here when we bought the house. It used to be white but is now totally tea-stained - how on earth can I make it look sparkly?

theheadgirl · 01/05/2007 21:54

Ohhh, I need to join in with this!! I work Monday and Tuesday, and by Wednesday morning my house looks like students have been partying in it
Count me in for the big sink shining event tomorrow!

Roskva · 01/05/2007 22:04

please can I join? I can actually see all my draining board at the moment - I had to clear it for a plumber to fix the tap

fryalot · 01/05/2007 22:06

so all we have to do tomorrow is to shine the sink?

Is that it?

chirpygirl · 01/05/2007 22:06

Greebos, I would try the fly sink shining instructions as they say to first put bleach in with water and leave for an hour, that might clean most of the stains....

Off to buy my plug tomorrow, I searched under the sink and I actually have everything else I need but now the Fly website is down so I can't sign up, typical!

funnypeculiar · 01/05/2007 22:09

phew, tomorrow it is

NormaStanleyFletcher · 01/05/2007 22:36

squonk - 'tis baby steps. Yes - that is it, just shining your sink! It gives you a sense of achievement and will be a daily thing from then on (I think)

OP posts:
fryalot · 01/05/2007 22:37

super.

Will let you know when it's done.

swedishmum · 02/05/2007 00:46

I've been reading the emails (only day 2!) and am now the proud owner of a silk flower wreath to give my front door new sparkle as recommended.... No, seriously, I'm quite excited by the thought of a tidy house and no clutter. I need this kind of controlling good influence.

NormaStanleyFletcher · 02/05/2007 07:19

OK - Day one of Baby Steps starts here
