Morning All
I'm going to try the 'January Cure' from the Apartment Therapy website.
There are other Mumsnet threads for previous years.
Anyone with me? Smile

You're doing well Penelope. Me not so much! Will do pantries today. Also have a deep drawer that we use for crisps etc to do as it's full of stuff nobody likes and the stuff DS does like just ends up on the counter.

Mybestusername · 13/01/2018 09:21

I have fallen behind this week but I am up for tackling the kitchen today.

PenelopeFlintstone · 13/01/2018 21:54

Thanks Cider. I did do the pantries but the whole house is a bit of a mess :) And I only made a start on the paperwork one - that'll take a while! But thanks, and good luck with your kitchen.

Today, I'll do more in the kitchen.

A small step for me today: tidied the kitchen drawer where I keep the large utensils. This drawer annoys me because it has no dividers and isn't a standard size so I can't easily find inserts to keep the utensils tidy. But I put the rarely-used ones into a deeper storage drawer under the oven and now the original drawer looks a bit better!

Floors still not done - feels like an enormous job and I don't feel like hauling furniture out - but clothes and paperwork in reasonable shape.

PenelopeFlintstone · 14/01/2018 22:53

Peartree17 - I've got a utensils drawer like that. You've made me realise that I probably only use the three or four utensils at the front of the drawer. I wonder whether I should move the others, or at least somehow divide the drawer into two for 'Used' and 'Rarely Used'. Maybe then they wouldn't be in such a tangle when I try to get something out.
As for your floors - I certainly didn't move furniture! I just vacuumed. And I've still got one terrible room not done. If you've vacuumed and mopped, then I'd tick that task off. Maybe add 'Vacuum Under Furniture' to your Jobs List, and get to that when you can?

Well, I discovered that I'd actually done JC18's task for today, before even being told to do so: I invited some friends over for the first weekend in Feb. I will have new floors to show them (and some will even be clean!), I shall be thoroughly dusted and decluttered, there will be Neal's Yard handwash in the lav, and I'll put vases of daffs and big bunches of camellias all around. I must remember to book the window cleaner before the end of the month as well.

Today I gave the bedroom a really thorough dust and polished the furniture. And fixed a couple of little chips in the paintwork. Ahh!

NamedyChangedy · 17/01/2018 14:31

Wow peartree, that sounds fantastic - well done!

I finally did paperwork last night, hurrah! And I've cleared out my living room completely. It needs redecorating anyway, so it should hopefully stay like that until it's all finished.

At this rate, I'll still be doing the January cure in July!! Grin

Peartree17 · 18/01/2018 17:52

Well, I've taken a couple of steps back today. We're having hardwood flooring fitted in the hall, which is great, because we are rid of the porridge-coloured carpet. But I hadn't realised there would be quite so much sawing and thus very fine sawdust. Settling EVERYWHERE. So while I don't suppose all my work dusting, wiping, hoovering has been undone, I will be spending next week going over all of it again. Sigh. On the plus side, by the end of tomorrow, I will have beautiful floors!

I have cleaned the bathroom shutters with sugar soap solution, which is brilliant for the floors and the cabinets as well. I have organised my sock and tights drawers. And I have persuaded family to declutter their wardrobes as well, and the charity shop/recycling piles are growing.

Oh, I've also picked up all the cat and fox shit out of the garden and put down a combination of those green crystals and chilli flakes to deter further incursions. That was a glamorous task...

PenelopeFlintstone · 23/01/2018 14:58

I'm away at the moment but I'll catch up when I get back. The bedroom is the last email that I've seen.

Is anyone still doing this? I’m a bit Hmm at this weekend’s task - cleaning the bathroom...don’t people do this every week anyway?!

CiderwithBuda · 27/01/2018 10:07

I haven't done much. Been gradually sorting kitchen cupboards- just junking out of date stuff as I find it.

Been distracted by planning on converting our dining room into an office/sitting room. And trying desperately to sell our oriental rosewood furniture which there is no market for. Might have to be a bonfire in the garden!

Have managed to sell our wedding present dinner service which we have used twice. We are married 23 years this year. Today's task is sorting through my massive collection of table linens/placemats etc.

And yes - bathrooms done every week in this house. Maybe they mean a deep clean?

PenelopeFlintstone · 27/01/2018 16:00

I'm still here but I'm away at the moment. I'll be back in a week.

I can't wait to get back and get cracking with this! I'll have to do a big catch-up!!

CiderwithBuda · 01/02/2018 08:58

Still sorting dining room. Appear to have found a way to sell the rosewood furniture- it's going into an auction in a couple of weeks and will be collected in the next ten days. Now need to clear out the cupboards! We lived in Asia for ten years and have lots of souvenirs/decorative items from that time in a display cabinet that will be going. A Corner display cabinet is full of blue and white pottery. Sideboard and cupboard above is full of glasses and dinner service etc.

Once dining room is cleared we will move office furniture down into room which means another clear out and then making that into a nice spare room and that needs doing by Easter as we have guests.

I'm spending a lot of time on Pinterest!

CiderwithBuda · 01/02/2018 08:59

I think I will go though the January Cure emails and jot down the tasks and get them done as and when I can.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/02/2018 07:15

I will too. Does anyone else think some of the tasks are a bit airy-fairy?

Is anyone still doing this? (I know it's February!)

OP posts:
CiderwithBuda · 14/02/2018 09:00

Sort of! Still haven't read through the emails though. Am decluttering lots.

Dining room furniture is gone. It's goes into an auction tomorrow. Fingers crossed it sells! All ornaments and glasses are packed up. Cleared out under the stairs and bought small shelf unit which DH put together so it's all tidy with more space.

Won't have as much storage in dining room for lots of thu gas that were in there so we are gradually sorting through lots of dishes and platters and glasses etc. We have far too much to be honest but I dont necessarily want to get rid of it all. Lots of memories attached.

Started sorting the airing cupboard too and got some bedspreads laundered. Towel shelf is next.

And want to do a big spring clean.

CiderwithBuda · 14/02/2018 10:08

Just went through the emails and have jotted down what I want to do.

It is a bit airy fairy and def designed for apartments rather than five bedroomed houses with three reception rooms and messy family though!

My life would be so much easier in a one or two bed apartment!

PenelopeFlintstone · 14/02/2018 10:22

Hey Cider :)
I've just had a look at the emails again.
I'm going to combine two of them over the weekend: the kitchen one and the paper clutter one. I won't get both done by a long chalk, but I'll switch to the other when I get bored with one - and then back again.

OP posts:
PenelopeFlintstone · 14/02/2018 10:47

We crossed posts.
I agree about the airy-fairy!!
It'll be hot where I am this weekend, so the kitchen and the office will keep me busy inside out of the heat.
