Morning All
I'm going to try the 'January Cure' from the Apartment Therapy website.
There are other Mumsnet threads for previous years.
Anyone with me? Smile

ScattyMcScatty · 02/01/2018 08:34

I have last years calendar if anyone would like me to post it?

Can I join? Dreading the floors weekend but managed to get one down yesterday when I moved dds room around and gave away some furniture. I've only got one dc today so hopeful to finish today's task!

ScattyMcScatty · 02/01/2018 08:37

Chloe I completed the cure last year, was a nice little set up for the year as I also started Kondo but wasn't nearly ruthless enough

BrutusMcDogface · 02/01/2018 08:41

How can you do floors before doing everything else? I tend to do floors last?

Anyway, think I might sign up! Nothing to lose! Grin

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/01/2018 08:51

ScattyMcScatty Can I join? Yes! All welcome Smile
How can you do floors before doing everything else? I've been wondering that too, Brutus.
I have last years calendar if anyone would like me to post it? Thanks Scatty, but I'll keep tidying up Mumsnetting so I can do the floors when it's time. Others might like it though.

That's last years calendar, they don't tend to change it up usually. If nothing else last years inspired me to start from scratch in the lounge as more than half of my list was in there, now it works perfectly for us as a family. And I got a plant rather than flowers on that day, now we have a plant in nearly every room and it looks better for it. I managed to do a lot of my list throughout the year too so for me it was a positive experience with a lasting impact. I'd certainly recommend it even if at times it feels a bit slow.

I had no idea there was a September cure I'll definitely be signing up for that this year.

Hi

This will be my fourth January cure

But gotta admit never actually completed the full four weeks

But I'm hoping to do the whole thing this year

It's hard when combined with work but not onerous

The floors: I know !!! It seems illogical and nonsensical to do the floors first

But honestly it's just so clever

It gets you into the spring cleaning mode
It's lot of work
The whole home smells better after
And it sort of gives you a good feel for the problem areas

For me it didn't matter in the past that I didn't complete the cure : I got so many good tips from it

Hoping we can all encourage each other to get through it

RobotGoat · 02/01/2018 11:18

When I was reading about it, I'm pretty sure it said it started on 2 January. No email yet, but looking forward to receiving my first one!

spiderbabymum · 02/01/2018 13:17

It's here

The email has arrived

Haven't read it yet

Too excited / scared

Think I will lie down first

spiderbabymum · 02/01/2018 13:23

The whole plan is available if you scroll down the email

It looks Identiacsl to done previous ones

chloechloe · 02/01/2018 16:41

Well done on completing it scatty, very impressive! If you sign up for emails they will send you one about the September Cure. They don't spam you either, just the odd email now and again.

I've just read the email even though I'm away and can't do it. Yippee it's not the floors!!!!!!

ScattyMcScatty · 02/01/2018 20:00

Has anyone managed today's task? I'm waiting on the smallest scarlet fever covered little gremlin to go to bed then I'm going to tackle the kitchen junk drawer. Wish me luck. Pretty sure it trails down to the cupboard below so I'm toying with whether just the actual drawer counts as completed Blush

chloechloe · 02/01/2018 20:33

Just go with the one drawer scatty. Unless you're feeling super motivated and desperate to carry on. Hope your little one is better soon!

Our kitchen drawer is the drawer of doom! Although I read somewhere that you actually need a few "catch all" drawers in a house to keep all those little bits that don't have a home so that everywhere else stays tidy.

Mybestusername · 02/01/2018 20:34

I am away tonight so haven’t done today’s task - I am going to sort out my makeup drawer when I get home tomorrow though.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/01/2018 20:40

I still haven't had the email! Maybe mine will arrive at 1pm. Anyway, I'll do a drawer when I get home. I have to go to work now.

Just finished mine. I feel a little like I'm cheating, because we don't really have many drawers in our house at all. We have junk piles and junk boxes, but very few actual drawers! I did the three (very small) drawers in our airing cupboard, which house all our 'to be used' toiletries. Threw away a whole carrier bag of empty bottles and stuff that I hate the smell of so will never use. Feeling like I've made a good start!

BobbilyBoo · 03/01/2018 04:11

Hello, please can I join you guys? I signed up after seeing this thread earlier in the week and thought I would sign up.

I'm keen to use January as a spring board for getting myself and the house more organised and so I'm feeling very proud of myself for tackling our two (rather large) junk drawers in the kitchen.

I'm back to work tomorrow but hoping I can keep up with the daily tasks.

CiderwithBuda · 03/01/2018 05:19

Just signed up. Again. Have signed up a few times but not actually done anything! House in need of a spring clean and some reorganisation and decluttering. I toy with Marie Kondo and have started a few times but not finished.

I will do this! Will do kitchen junk drawer in the morning before next email arrives.

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/01/2018 08:51

I still haven't had the email. I don't think it liked my original email address, although it's fine for Mumsnet and other subscriptions. So, I added my Gmail account and this time I got a welcome email - but still not the one for the first day. So, although i started this thread it looks like you people in the UK may be guiding me through it! :D

I'm half way through my list, well I've done the downstairs. Its surprisingly long considering I've spent the best part of a week of nights scrubbing everything in sight to decontaminate the house from all these illness germs. I'm actually pretty happy with downstairs too so I'm dreading the upstairs list but I guess that's the point.

The list is always my favourite task Blush much less work to do than last year when I literally gave everything except the TV away and started again in the lounge

Gammeldragz · 03/01/2018 18:43

I'll jump in, if I may. Strangely I did a drawer or two yesterday anyway so all good on that score. As for today, I have just started a Bullet Journal and already have things on my master to do list that fit for today. I also washed under the dining table because I saw floors mentioned, so I'm feeling pretty good. I often start these type of things and am yet to complete any. Though my knickers have remained Kondo-style for two years after I started Kondo-ing (never completed).
I must be careful not to use decluttering/tidying as an excuse not to do my coursework though...

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/01/2018 02:42

Note to self: don't type a long post and then click on a photo of your tidy drawer because, when you hit Back, your long, encouraging post with several quotes and a couple of photos will be gone. SadAngry
