If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Back home after a week away and there are lots of new people! lljkk, I haven’t really been following the flylady steps because, like you, the main thing I need to do is declutter. However, the support on this thread is great and being able to post what you have achieved, even if has nothing to do with the flylady steps, helps encourage you to continue.

Tada

Sorted out post
Unpacked
D/w loaded
Kitchen tidied and cleaned (dh cooked)
Strictly and Planet Blue watched 😁 (so annoyed about Aston)
Washing sorted and one load in
Given dog his medication

sc, so sympathise re the school system here. Maybe mean to say it to you but I’m so glad mine are out of it. 24 years was 24 years too long for me! If your dd needs any help with Maths just let me know.

Callmecordelia · 06/11/2017 05:39

I am delighted we're in the kitchen this week, because I booked someone to give the oven a deep clean tomorrow before I even joined the thread. It's like it's meant to be.....

Bowerbird5 · 06/11/2017 06:22

I 've been thinking of doing that. My son bought a house recently and the oven was left dirty. He got someone in to do it( my suggestion) and it is like brand new.

Well didn't get all my jobs done yesterday. Time constraints between being out for Mass and choirs.not back till 1 pm out at 2:30 then home by 9 pm. Made the dinner though😄 had to cut meat in half to cook in time and no roasties. Had sweet potatoes and little ones. Made a pudding with windfalls from next door and last year mincemeat. Didn't have time to eat that at lunch but when I came in I had some. Playing catch up today.
Hills
We did acid, natural and botanical dyeing. A couple of them on the course were spinners too and they are weavers. There are a couple of spinning groups up here. I don't do it. I don't knit much just simple stuff and I do a bit of crochet and a bit of sewing. I have mostly been felting the last four years. I should have been this year but I dropped out. I'm regretting it now but I could go back next year if I wanted. You are allowed a year out, it is C&G. I found it hard to keep up with the homework sometimes.

Afreshstartplease · 06/11/2017 06:36

Morning all

Sitting watching dc4 who has now mastered walking in a sleeping bag Shock honestly where did my baby go!

I do very loose half arsed version on fly lady. I never shine my sink. I clean it maybe once a week. But love this thread

Afreshstartplease · 06/11/2017 06:39

Good luck zoo & lilzoo

Callmecordelia · 06/11/2017 06:44

I know exactly when that oven was last clean, because with the last bit of money I had before I had the baby, I blew it on a professional spring clean. They weren't great cleaners tbh, but I had spd, high blood pressure and it was my second baby so I knew I wouldn't want to do any housework for a while. I don't really want to confess how old that baby is now! 19 months, cough

I feel like I am doing better with the house now, but there's no structure. Thank you for the explanation of how the system works and links where everything is on one page, it's much clearer. I found the Flylady website quite confusing. There are some things that I really don't need help on, like most of you I meal plan already, but I do struggle with the details that make somewhere look nice and polished, bathrooms and paper clutter.

I am being better about this baby's clothes though, and I keep a few nice things and send the rest to the charity shop when he's grown out of them. I still have bags and bags of DD's clothes because I loved them, and I wanted a second baby so much, and then I didn't have DS until she was five. I never decluttered a single item of her clothing and it got a bit out of control.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 06/11/2017 06:52

Another half-arsed Flylady here, I have spells of not really following it at all apart from the decluttering and attempt at daily routines, then I get going a bit better, but changes in routine such as school holidays tend to throw me off track for weeks. I don't necessarily stick to zones either, but do find the rhythm of the Flylady month oddly soothing. I've been having a really determined effort on decluttering and tidying recently, the house looks much better and it is so much easier to clean. I decluttered the fridge yesterday as a start to this week's kitchen zone.

Still - good luck with new school and early start for DD2.

Fresh - that takes me back, I had completely forgotten about walking in sleeping bags!

Cagliostro · 06/11/2017 07:02

Good luck lilzoo ⭐️️

I am pretty rubbish at Flying TBH, still very much in the decluttering phase. But it has really helped with that. Very slowly using the principles to build up our own routines too.

Good morning all!

Another half-assed

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 06/11/2017 08:03

I pretend to be doing flylady, I have good intentions but haven't quite mastered the art of actually doing flylady. Part of that is life caused part of that is cos I am just scatty.

Sounds interesting BowerBird I have some bare yarn and coolaid for doing some dying with ds, and I am looking at red cabbage/onion skin dying etc. BUT i have told myself other than the cool aid stuff I must complete and finish of WIP and USPs (unstarted projects) to reduce the clutter.

Sludgecolours · 06/11/2017 08:20

Oops, sorry, got interrupted there!

Meant to say - another half-arsed Flyer checking in - but I reckon half an arse is better than none Grin!!

The daily routines work well for me and beyond that - because I am a contradictory sort of person devoid of self-discipline when it comes to housework - the fact that I should be doing a mission or whatever at least means that I do something else instead Grin! Or ... just something ....

JustOneMoreCoffee · 06/11/2017 08:24

Good morning! Hope everyone is doing well. There is something about a new week that gives me hope I might do better this week. I've ended up procrastinating a lot by making a bullet journal and writing out routines to try and get more organised so now I actually need to do it. Grin Phoenix it could have been me writing your post last year, little and often makes a difference for me. I'm guilty of marathoning through in a day then doing nothing for days because it feels endless and I'm lazy

Sludgecolours · 06/11/2017 08:35

Zoo good luck to Lil'Zoo at new school today! I hope she enjoys it!

Welcome back Longtime (and thanks for schooling sympathy!) 24 yrs is a long time indeed!

CallmeCordelia the Flylady website is quite confusing! Glad the explanations helped! Any more qs - don't hesitate! Wish companies offering oven cleaning existed over here- no one seems to have thought of it yet - or it would probably be so prohibitively expensive that it wouldn't be worth while!

A warm welcome to Dsmummy (if you are joining us?)! Hellooo anyway if not!! Smile

Afreshstart aw at your ds walking in sleeping bag!

Whoknows same here - don't think I have ever managed to Fly properly through a school holiday!

Encouraging wing flaps to everyone else!

I had a lovely day yesterday but I woke up annoyed with myself this morning that I hadn't profited properly from the spare time I gained by having guests cancel yesterday. So although I am doing "work" work today, I am hoping to use my lunch hour to continue in boudoir. Also bit annoyed now I am here at work too because no one is ready for me and I am twiddling my fingers ... grrr.

Sludgecolours · 06/11/2017 08:41

x post Justonemorecupofcoffee! Good luck with "just doing it"! Smile That is always the hardest bit I find!! Flylady routines definitely help with the "all or nothing" issue - at least one achieves something or other throughout the day - they help me overcome the "getting started" hurdle anyway! Good luck with it all!

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/11/2017 08:50

Going to be honest the only time I have flown properly is the school holidays but then ds goes away for most of his school holidays. Flying is easy without kids. Hmm

Sludgecolours · 06/11/2017 08:53

Now we have nearly completed our first Flying week of Nov, just using spare time to do a "roll call" (in no particular order)! Please add your name if I have inadvertently left you off the list!

Agree Hills! Get loads done when the house is empty (not very often) and we are only a v small family; continually impressed by how everyone with larger families on here gets such a lot done. I suppose is a mix of necessity and being single-minded about things? (Single-mindedness is not one of my strong points.)

I'm going to go back home in a mo if my work isn't ready ... grrrr .....

HillsBesideTheSea · 06/11/2017 10:20

ta da
empty car or "stuff"
deliver car to garage
await how much the car is going to cost - potential for full exhaust and new exhaust sensor so could be very ouchie!
find to do list for today that i wrote last night whilst waiting for ds
bemoan lack of washing machine
Find wrapping paper and corner mother for an address
Get talked into helping her declutter in wednesday
refix picture frame as brown paper tape glue has given up Hmm
Start the process of deep cleaning shower

foxessocks · 06/11/2017 11:10

Ta das
Daily routine
Went to shop

To do
Kitchen declutter
Under the sink
Mop floors
Possibly Hoover downstairs if I get time
Dusting
Change bed sheets
Change towels , tea towels etc
Polish mirrors
Swish and swipe downstairs loo

I have some routines but don't always follow fly lady properly, I like the zone each week and some of the mission's , it keeps my focused instead of spending so long deciding where to start that I never do start!

Did I dream it or did someone mention professional oven cleaning? I really want mine done but finding it har to justify the cost...i really could do it myself, I have the kit and I have the time haha.

Afreshstartplease · 06/11/2017 11:36

I am attacking my downstairs today

So much clutter and shit from other rooms -thanks dc-

Ta da

Me and 4dc up dressed fed and out 840
2 packed lunches made
3 uniforms ironed
Washer on
Dryer on
Living room toys sorted and rearranged
Living room 1 swept

foxessocks · 06/11/2017 13:17

Ta das
Mopped downstairs
Tidied under kitchen sink and wrote items on shopping list
Decluttered and organised craft cupboard in the kitchen
Put out two hot spots (or nearly put them out I don't think they will ever go!!)
Polished mirrors downstairs
Dusted furniture downstairs
Swish and swipe toilet
Changed downstairs towels etc

To do
Dust upstairs
Polish mirrors upstairs
Mop bathroom
Empty upstairs bins
Put laundry away
Empty and reload dishwasher
Hang up laundry
Take sponsorship money to nursery school
Take bag of leaflets to recycling
Change bed sheets
Change upstaira towels etc

And stuff the hoovering that can be another day. Dh did it yesterday and it already needs doing again really.humph never ends!

Also think the cat has fleas , have ordered super strength flu stuff.

On a slightly more fun note because housework is boring - my Ds has been trying to say "cucumber' this morning and it is hilarious. And he stole half my lunch even though when I make him something he ignores it Hmm

And a lovely old man in the supermarket this morning told me ds has a lovely smile. So that made me smile too Smile

I've waffled on too long think I'm lacking adult company today! Thankfully my mum is popping in later.Smile
