If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Good luck sc
Welcome back rosa

I think I will have to adapt the Friday daily habit to become clearing out the buggy and changing bag! Sooo much random crap gets shoved in the basket 😱

Rosabellajames · 16/11/2017 11:39

cag dd2 had spent the morning at the in laws, that afternoon I thought I’d replenish the changebag supplies and a pair of my knickers were in there Blush haha nothing was mentioned but they were sat at the top of the bag so couldn’t be missed haha

Cagliostro · 16/11/2017 11:42

:o I just removed knickers from mine the other day!😂 I thought I might need spares in case of yet more heavy bleeds but thankfully it's all calmed down now 😳😳

Cagliostro · 16/11/2017 11:43

A pack of maternity pads did fly out of the buggy onto the floor of the bus yesterday though. Glamourous this motherhood lark isn't it!

Zoo, we're both zombies today. Hope your DD gets better soon.

We're just back from the doctors clutching some antibiotics for DS. Severe ear and throat infection.

Cagliostro · 16/11/2017 13:24

No Flying today, I'm not even dressed! 😳 I just want to sit and eat. And eat and eat. Super hungry today.

foxessocks · 16/11/2017 13:30

Hi all! I'm in a bad mood. The children are grumpy. Dd had a huge strop about a toothbrush this morning. I went to help my mum at the supermarket and ds was a nightmare. He woke up from his nap early. Funeral tomorrow and I'm feeling really anxious about speaking at it. Just really want it done now because I'm sure that's why I've been so grumpy this week Sad

Anyway hope all went well with the various trades people sc!

I've done nothing apart from buy a few things from the shop and even then I forgot the cat food and couldn't find a lightbulb for the bathroom.

So...to do
Declutter
Daily routine
Clean washing machine
Swish and swipe bathroom
See about ordering lightbulb online as might have more success!

Cagliostro · 16/11/2017 13:38

Big hugs foxes x

Longtime · 16/11/2017 13:45

Ooh good luck sc. Hope it all comes together.

Tada

Got showered, dressed etc
Student
Put on one load of washing (still in machine)
Continuing to work through this stupid Dutch presentation
Procrastinating by reading stuff on here despite knowing how urgent it is to get this finished!

Yep, and that's it!

I'm off to the UK tomorrow for a unexpected trip as dd needs to get to an open day in Bournemouth then back to Canterbury as she leaves for Amsterdam on the Sunday. As I'll be going straight from Dutch (dh is coming to collect me) I need to have everything ready tonight! So,

To do

Finish and go over stupid Dutch (need at least five hours!!)
Buy dog food
Put out washing
Pack
Stop faffing

Longtime · 16/11/2017 13:45

Hugs to foxes

Sludgecolours · 16/11/2017 17:58

Hope the abs kick in soon CallmeCordelia and yr ds recovers quickly.

Sorry your DD2 is suffering with her ears again Zoo Sad

Hope you have enjoyed a bit of happy noshing today Cag! Grin

Hills (and anyone else with teen) quick q - how do you handle home time deadlines? DD was 15 mins late tonight (after agreed later home time ifysim). Not a partic prob as she kept me informed but we have had issues with this of late and I don't want it to escalate. Do you impose sanctions ie 15 mins after agreed time = 30 mins loss of phone or something? Or do you let it go? I am trying to emphasise the need to build trust!!

New item on my to do list... write S list (I do love a list) of everything baby might need in the next year or so. Turns out local mothercare is closing down and they have an EPIC sale. Like literally ALL clothing and loads of toys etc. So I'm planning to basically sort her entire wardrobe in 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12m, and get a few other bits too!

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/11/2017 19:38

I have had a few issues with ds going missing. Mostly due to being oblivious to social convention and partly being a stuborn teen. He was given warnings that if he continued/did again then he would be grounded with no technology. He knows I will impose and stick to it and today he not only agreed plans with required details before school but checked his curfew after school and came back early. It is an up hill struggle and I am sure in a month or sure he will have forgotten and we get to play this game again. But I would give warnings. BUT i don't mind him being late to a point if I know where I am, but if he or I ring and I say home now it is expected and not negotiable. Mostly I just want to know where he is to be safe and if he is on top of homework there is wiggle room for curfews. If that makes any sense?

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/11/2017 19:49

sc dep on why she late.if its reasonable im late because transport etc and kerp informed id run with that.if its pushing luck i think i might be tempted ask her home early(back 15 mins late.home 15 mins early tom).might not work for you but worked on dd2.well done re bathroom!

Zoolets had homemade tuna fishcakes fir tea with cucumber and cherry tomatoes.tinned fruit cocktail and couple biscuits

I shall be needing to inspect inside my eyelids shortlyGrin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/11/2017 20:10

Hello all, no advice SC as that stage feels like forever away Grin.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow foxes. Callme, Flowers Bear for your DS.

Cag, mothercare scale definitely requires a list Smile.

Am chuckling at various things falling out of bags and pushchairs (sorry).

Am in two minds whether I was right to put off the work I could have done but I did get a fair bit done in the house thanks to it.

Ta da:-
General house tidy and decluttered a few bits as I did that - some of DD2’s clothes and a few books and threw out some kitchen spices.
Few bags to charity shop
Checked about booking tickets for a local pantomime
Bought bread and food for tonight

However, did not achieve a children in need outfit for DD1 so am officially in the bad books. Shops in local town sold out of almost everything and she is now telling me she desperately wanted to wear a Pudsey onesie tomorrow Confused.

Big wing flaps to all. DH working late so just trying to settle DD1 then going to sort out te.

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/11/2017 20:22

zoo you absolute angel you! Thank you

Fibro kicked my butt today so I decluttered the tv box of recordings. It is the kind of flying I like sometimes WinkGrin

CotswoldStrife · 16/11/2017 23:56

foxes hope it goes OK tomorrow, will be thinking of you.

Sorry to be so quiet again DD has been ill this week and had a day off school. We also overslept one day and she was late Blush That hardly ever happens but she coped with it really well.

At 10.00pm tonight, she then announced that she could take some stuff in to school tomorrow (that she hadn't mentioned before) and this didn't go down too well with me 'cos we'd been out all night and were already trying to bake Cake at the time! So life running super-smoothly as ever here Hmm Grin

Gin has been consumed, will add Wine to the shopping list for tomorrow.

Pudsey onesies were in Asda earlier this week if that's any help Stressy, adult sizes only and they were £12. DD is wearing spots for school tomorrow despite this year's theme being bright neon stuff

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/11/2017 06:45

The summary for Friday 17th is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

We are in Zone 3 this week: The Main Bathroom and One Extra Room (November 12-18) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 3 (if you are at that stage) is here.

The daily focus for Fri is decluttering purses/handbags/cars + date night.

The monthly habit for November is menu planning here!

Flykid's challenge: here (hopefully continually renewing itself).
