If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

sc just read back a bit (instead of doing my Dutch) and see your dd is struggling under the weight of the dread Belgian school system. I do so, so sympathise, the poor thing. Hope your dh is feeling better too.

I don’t know how you all manage working full time plus with dcs at home to manage anything else! Where does my time go when I’m only working part time and my dcs have all flown the next?! Hats off to you all.

Radley (PLL?), I ‘recognise’ you. I’m sure I was following a well visited thread of yours but have no idea which one!

Sludgecolours · 15/11/2017 19:56

Thanks Longime it is brutal! At least their French teacher went around the class asking if anyone was stressed yesterday - which is the first time they have ever asked been asked anything remotely like that. But of course, she asked in front of the whole class, so no one said a word ... . And totally agree about being in awe of everyone on here who is working and looking after dc. My Flying output is pathetic in comparison! Good luck with Flemish study tomorrow!
Geef niet op!

Tried and tested home made recipes are usually the best Hills! I don't think I have made a souffle in over 20 yrs ... .

Sleep well Zoo! (And Hills!) Self cleaning bathroom would be luverly!

Wheezing doesn't sound good CallmeCordelia but shopping bargains definitely help! Get well soon!

Dare I ask about the mop Foxes??? Grin

[Do not read if eating supper]
The furry, in dh's absence, has chosen to throw up tonight, so I am doing patrols with a large bottle of Dettol and a bucket of boiling water [sigh] Perfect end to a perfect jeffin' day!

Links coming up!

the word "chosen" perhaps a little unfair in circs now I come to think of it! But wish he had waited until dh came home!

The summary for Thursday 16th is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 16 for Thurs 16th is here. One you can safely ignore if you want to, about reading Flylady e-mails/testimonials etc.

We are in Zone 3 this week: The Main Bathroom and One Extra Room (November 12-18) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 3 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Thursday's mission is here. Flylady has allocated the "other room" as the laundry area in this instance - spend 15 mins washing down wm and td, chucking out old detergent bottles and straightening hangers etc.

The daily focus for Thurs is running errands.

The monthly habit for November is menu planning here!

Flykid's challenge: here (hopefully continually renewing itself).

Daily reminders (which should also update themselves automatically)
here.

Holiday missions here!

You are all doing brilliantly! Tally-ho and all of that!

Day out today so nothing done at home really.

Bowerbird5 · 15/11/2017 22:52

Brilliant flying. Sludge that is a good list unfortunately mine isn't. I should have got up early but I wanted a lie in even if i didn't sleep in. I remember some tea bags in the bedside drawer and recently overhauled the tea maker. Lovely.

Ta Das
Got up!
Cleaned surfaces in bathroom cleaned shower, basin etc
Sorted basket from other night. Didn't need much change.
Cleared floor for washing.
Phone rang. Interrupted call.
Cleaned kitchen worktops while on the phone. Friend phoned to go play but I couldn 't because I was working and groaned" why didn't you ask me yesterday." Went for 15 minute cuppa after I feed chicken and got logs, coal in and emptied ash and set fire.
Sainsbury's after school. Bought leggings, trousers and a snuggly pine green cardi. Bit of a splurge to help with flying re clothes ready.😁 I did put back a top and a long cardi to match trousers. I don't buy clothes often but I liked new ones in.
Yr5's were lovely. Tomorrow I 'm down the infants x3classes. Wish I could do my proper job because it puts me behind and children get disappointed.S&L group will be out of sync too. Singing at local store in evening.
Tonight I went to fundraiser.
Expectations for tomorrow...nil! Alarm set for 6:30so might get something done. Buy firelighters😗 who forgot.if I get out on time I can go to Carol singing early and have a cup of tea in the shop. Must remember to put music in the car.

Sludgecolours · 16/11/2017 04:35

Urgh, someone please shoot me. The dog (whose stomach seems fine now touch wood) has taken it upon himself, in dh's absence, to whimper pitifully ALL through the night but funnily enough, every time I've gone downstairs (at least five or six times) transforms in to a healthy bouncing dervish and refused to settle. Grrrrrrr. Ended up dozing on v cramped sofa beside him and now feel 108 yrs of age Confused. It's like having a furry 7kg baby!

OP posts:
Bowerbird5 · 16/11/2017 06:50

That's a fab list and I 've only just woken up!

Thought I better get up and do a few things as I will be late in again. I didn't get home till nine that night. Made a cup of tea and went to bed. This is getting a bit ridiculous that is three times in the last fortnight I have had to go to bed at nine. Means I'm working too hard( and my age) tired now.
Tea made 😁 I can't understand why I stopped using this. My son 1 bought it for me years ago. Ooh it is so dark this morning if I close IPad it is pitch black. I must have shut bedroom door during night as I still leave light on despite no kids here...now it is so I don't trip over...clutter. Have several crates of stuff in hall to sort with DD we still haven't done it. This time she is home.
More newbies / returnees this is getting a popular thread. It is all you lovely friendly people which is why I joined.
Let's hope everyone has a good day. Yes, you are right sludge really any list is a great list. It means we are all one step closer. It does work though I wasn't impressed with her mopping which appeared on YouTube.

Bowerbird5 · 16/11/2017 06:52

oooh! Just re read as now properly awake another Archers fan. I used to list to it on Sunday mornings but now I listen to it before going to sleep and sometimes in the night and doze back off. Glad she booted Mat.

Callmecordelia · 16/11/2017 07:24

I have drifted in and out of the Archers for years. I'm currently having an out phase. One day I'll catch it, it won't be Adam or Pip speaking (that means a dive for the off button) and I'll be hooked again.

To do - survive. DH gone back to work. DS very hot, not eating much, slept very badly, or slept on me. Got DD's swimming lesson later. No pushchairs allowed, and parking is rubbish so normally it's difficult and I have to carry him for what seems like miles.

Rosabellajames · 16/11/2017 09:42

Can I rejoin please, I went awol during the summer holidays Confused still been following some of the routines but I need to step it up a gear now.
Ta da
Got the kids to school fed, watered and fairly happy
To do
Survive the day with a toddler and maybe get a few chores done .......

Sludgecolours · 16/11/2017 09:49

Grin Adam never sounds like a farmer to me CallmeCordelia! Too laid back and drawling!! And let's face it, the pace is so slow, you can stop listening for six months, and go back thereafter and still know what is going on!!

So sorry to hear that your ds is still feeling so ill. Good luck with swimming logistics! I hope he recovers soon.

Bowerbird The Archers never fails as an insomnia cure!! Grin I listen on catch up for this reason all the time! Usually works within 3 mins!

That's funny about Flylady and her mopping technique! She is always saying "Flying done inexpertly still blesses your house" or some such! Maybe she says that because she is really really bad at housework Grin Grin

I have just been on my hands and knees drawing chalk lines where bathroom fitments will go. I hope I have this right [wibble] Just preparing for a long session with plumber, electrician and tiler (eek) (who will be arriving imminently) by looking up bathroom vocab such as "S-bend" and "champfering" and "flush valve" in French Grin Plumber and electrician will be starting straightaway hopefully; I will be in such trouble if I get this wrong! Confused

OP posts:
Sludgecolours · 16/11/2017 09:53

Re: Adam - I meant not drawling in an agricultural drawling sort of way - but in a "I'm an actoooorrrr treading the boards" sort of way! I always think he should be sitting in a smoking jacket in some sort of seedy bar rather than stomping about in his herbal leys!!

Lovely to have you back Rosabella! Smile

Argh, there's a van pulling up outside. Wish me luck everybody ... .
