If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Aww Cag, she is so lovely Smile.

I am also a fan of the fluffy dressing gown. One of the many reasons I love autumn and winter.

Busy, busy weekend here.

Just about to do 15 minute blitz before bed and then going to collapse. Even both DC were tired tonight Grin.

Big wing flaps to all and thanks for links SC.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 12/11/2017 21:56

Hope your DD2 feels better soon zoo

Cagliostro · 12/11/2017 22:20

Pizza was rubbish :( it's been a crappy evening all round really, super clingy Caglets due to DH not being here, I did read to them for the first time since baby arrived (continuing little princess for DD, and started some avengers book with DS which is sooo painfully shit and it's a box set of four books 😭😭😭) but it's been quite tough with Cagletini feeding near constantly (hoping it's due to the cold rather than general cluster feeds) and a very messy nappy incident 😂😱 DH is going to get home to a living room in dire straits and instructions to fill the washing machine immediately. 😳

Bowerbird5 · 12/11/2017 22:29

It is purple too. M&S and my present from DH last year, the only thing I wanted. It is really thick and snuggly. Washes well too. I made a pair of felt slippers to go with it( never again) so cosy.
Went to bed at 9 pm because I was dozing off in Midsomer Ms mind you it was boring so predictable and now I am still awake.still I'm resting and bed lovely and comfy because clean sheets. I bought a new sheet from Dunelm not long ago. It is a Dorma one but didn't notice it was had a sheen. They are lovely to sleep on. I have a cotton one on top a bargain Dorma from TKMaxx all embroidered at the top. I had to have cheap sheets for a while but now realise mum was right!

Bowerbird5 · 12/11/2017 22:38

Cags
Get a basket. Chuck everything from living room in. Instant tidy! I used to read to mine when feeding. DD used to start nosing at the book from 6 mths and was avid reader and was learning to read at three. Started school and by Christmas was fluent. I love the fact that you are reading a classic like Little Princess and then a shit book like the Avengers. My friend and I were reminiscing the other day about having to read the shite TUrtles comic books!

Sludgecolours · 13/11/2017 06:01

Good morning fledglings!

[SC bustles in to naughty/haughty corner in an attempt to get there before Zoo, puts whistling kettle on hob.]

Sorry I didn't post the links last night. Had lovely day out with extended family yesterday who normally travel nearby here at this time of year; didn't get back until late! Catching up this morning!

Hope everyone is ok! Will catch up with personals later this morning!

Morning all

Little ds still under the weather here, and teething as well which always helps. Been up since 445 with him and shortly followed by grumpy dd.

LOVE a nice cosy dressing gown and slippers. I often wear mine around the house during the day and have to remember to take it off to answer the door.

Sorry to see so many of you had such bad birthing experiences, i must have been quite lucky really. Even though ds3 was back to back i was only in labor for 5 hours. I could do it again tomorrow if need be! Id rather go through another birth than another pregnancy lol.

We had some work done on the house over weekend so i am still cleaning up from that. Bloody brick and plaster dust everywhere.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/11/2017 07:21

Morning all.

Miserable start here. Was up loads in the night with both DDs. DD1 has a bad dream and DD2 unsettled and often throws covers off then wakes up cold. Luckily they are the age where they usually go quickly back to sleep or I can at least doze next to them but still tired this morning.

Then go downstairs to find cat has brought a live mouse in which then ran away Angry. Can not find mouse anywhere so have to hope cat finds it later Confused. Of course she has now lost interest in the whole thing and is sulking under the bed. Aaaagh.

Bower was just talking on another thread about the fact there are a lot of crap books out there! These were a gift from a well meaning relative so I'm hoping to just power through them. 😴💤 We had an epic book declutter a few weeks back, so we haven't got a lot of chapter books as I got rid of anything that can easily be borrowed from a library. Just kept nice gift editions etc. No idea what to try next with him that will be decent but not too challenging, I feel awful that I haven't been reading to them much and want to cement the habit again.

Fecking awful night with Cagletini! Normally she goes 3-4hrs between feeds overnight but she barely slept more than an hour at a time for some reason. To make things more fun, DH had to go for physio this morning, so we will get like 2 hours with him all day if we are lucky. Really glad my parents are coming tomorrow.

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/11/2017 09:27

Captain underpants appeals to boys - although I will admit I was very pleased that ds was of the age he could read it himself. Not my idea of fun. Ds doesn't have me read to him and hasn't for years and years. His reading age is older than mine because of my dyslexia Blush My reading frustrates him and it is not a pleasant experience for either of him. I just ply his book habit and ban the technology in the car to encourage. Wink

We were away for the weekend but have crash landed with a bump. Huge huge huge to do list today as we have the chimney sweep in tomo and need to get tidy and organised for that On a plus note a parcel I have been waiting for has arrived.

ta da
ds to school complete with badly made model constructed last night and this morning
1 load of pillows on to wash
sort out folder covers for mum
print out and deliver paperwork for mum to sort
sort out school paperwork and send in with ds
Swear as things fall over in my room
write to do list for lounge tackling

And now I am off to make a fry up for breakfast and consider what clothes are clean for wearing I need to get the sewing machine out urgently. but there is just not enough hours in the day!

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/11/2017 09:56

toostressy i can sympathisr.scoutcat keeps leaving dead field mice as "gifts" on the doorstep which if we dont check before we leave a zoolet invariably steps on one .....

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 13/11/2017 10:41

I’m in awe of some of your tadah lists. My only long list is todos...Shock

However, I have a workman in all this week so that has kicked me into gear. So far this morning I have given a passable impression of a hausfrau

Hoovered downstairs
Tidied downstairs
Mopped downstairs floor
Cleaned under stairs loo/utility room
Cleaned hob and cupboard fronts in kitchen
Found some Unidentified Frozen Objects in freezer which I hope are left over meat to pad out a paella later.

I’m on coffee break now and gearing up for ironing session.

I’m drinking my coffee and I can see loads of jobs to do just sitting here. Normally I have my denial blinkers on and it all looks fine. Once I start cleaning I feel overwhelmed by all the stuff I haven’t done-I’m a perfectionist paralysed by procrastination. PPP.

Dog is staring me out as he wants a walk but am stuck until Very Important Delivery arrives for dh.

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/11/2017 12:02

I am trying to find the strength/ courage to tackle to sock basket of doom I need to stay on top of this as I hate this job and it is worse when i let it build up.

Afreshstartplease · 13/11/2017 12:59

cag how old is ds? I may be able to recommend boy books?

Cagliostro · 13/11/2017 13:09

He's 8 :) so out of picture books but he struggles with comprehension. We've only really managed Roald Dahl

foxessocks · 13/11/2017 13:28

Afternoon everyone! Ds is very grumpy today so getting anything done has been a challenge. He has had a strop about: going in the car, going into a shop's changing room, being given raisins, being put back in the buggy, going back in the car, not being allowed to turn the Hoover on and off while I was using it, not being able to play with the furniture polish, the fact I didn't bring the Hoover back downstairs and finally because the cat looked at him funny. I despair!

Ta das
Got a skirt to wear at a wedding (still need top, bag, shoes )
Hoovered upstairs
Mopped
Changed sheets etc
Dusted
Daily routine
Emptied bins

To do
Try to work out how to stop ds trying to force his head through the bannisters Shock
Declutter bathroom / one other room
Check bathroom supplies

Cagliostro · 13/11/2017 13:31

ta da
✅sorted some laundry (still need to put ours away though)
✅gathered some rubbish
✅phoned doctors

Should probably actually get up at some point! I have been lazing in bed with the baby all morning. Still coughing away
