Join me in getting rid of at least one thing a day decluttering challenge?

I am trying to declutter, starting with our loft and garage both of which need some work doing so need to be a lot emptier! After they're done I want to declutter the rest of the house. I've already got rid of loads of stuff but I'm starting to lose motivation alone!

We have quite strict rules for what we can put in rubbish so I'm selling, free cycling, taking stuff to the clothes bank etc. At least one thing a day. I'm hoping to be done by Christmas!

Anyone want to join me?

Emails definitely count. That reminds me I was going to delete some of my thousands of photos and I forgot because of half term.

Today I have been sorting through play dough. We have about six large play dough sets - sweet shops, ice cream maker etc. I thought I'd sell / give away 5 and keep a basic set for dds. I spent half an hour putting the bits in the correct boxes and finding homes for non play dough toys that appeared. I now have empty drawers where the play dough was but I have a mountain of playdough accessories to sort through on the floor. I am almost tempted to give the whole lot to a preschool but am anal and like organising things

Have thrown away a lovely clockwork toy. It has been sitting in spare room for nearly a year because its key went missing about two years ago.

Gibble1 · 21/02/2018 20:19

Chest of drawers gone 😁. And a tub of briwax.

TheLastMermaid · 22/02/2018 07:57

Thanks @SandandSea 😊

Still managing a few things every day, some old socks and children's clothes that'll never be the same into the charity shop rag bag; and some books I've finally admitted I'll never read into a charity shop box with some crockery I'll be glad to wave goodbye to

StealthNinjaMum · 22/02/2018 15:31

A bit more tidying of the playdough sets. While looking for missing bits I tidied some toys and chucked out a few arts and craft bits. I also shredded an expired credit card so the house doesn't look tidier. I need to sell lots of toys and books I put in a pile before Xmas. Might spend tomorrow putting them on Facebook.

Gibble1 · 22/02/2018 16:45

A pile of paperwork clutter has gone into the recycling bin.

CapricornWithAUnicornHorn · 22/02/2018 20:41

I de cluttered my photos about a week ago. 300 and odd went Blush.

Today I have got rid of a load of cardboard. One more bin load (I reckon) and it will all be gone Grin

Mostly just tidying today. I'm going to focus on the bedroom over the weekend and try to get as much out of there as possible. I have been very ruthless lately so hopefully that will carry on!!

Cupoteap · 23/02/2018 15:38

Right I have been neglecting this but I am determined to do something this weekend!

PenelopeFlintstone · 23/02/2018 23:16

Oh, me too, Cupotea!! I'm working a lot longer hours so I'm changing my task to 7 items every weekend. Works out the same.

Stickmangate · 24/02/2018 07:33

sorted out some draws the other month. Found a facial spa thing I forgot I had put it away to try and use again. Went to use it last night and it doesn't work so that's gone in the recycling.

PenelopeFlintstone · 24/02/2018 08:06

Gone today:

  1. a metre long old floormat - frayed and stained. It's been rolled up under a wardrobe for at least 5 years.
  2. a disco ball
  3. an ikea cupboard handle in its packet

4 more things to find and throw.

namastayinbed · 24/02/2018 08:21

7 things a weekend sounds doable. I need to sort some old photos so should be a lot more this weekend!

Cupoteap · 24/02/2018 10:52

Hmm seven a weekend might work.....

Went through dds shoes last night and have got rid of 7 so that's me done Grin

PenelopeFlintstone · 24/02/2018 11:06

Also gone:

  1. a set of books
  2. a new baby toy (bought as a bargain for if someone had a baby....but I don't want to look after it anymore!! I don't feel it's a bargain now if I have to store it for years!!!)
  3. a jigsaw but now I've decided to keep it and do it! Maybe my teen kids will come and talk to me while I'm doing it?

So, still 2 more to find. I feel really happy being back on track :) :)

Cupoteap · 24/02/2018 11:10

Yay well done, mine was just cheating lol although one pair made it to the bin the rest went in the bags that never get taken anywhere

PenelopeFlintstone · 24/02/2018 11:20

Ha ha. Mine aren't really gone either! They're on the front verandah. They should make it to the car boot tomorrow. They should!

Can't you put yours in the car, Cupotea? Then we could have a thread about decluttering our cars :D

Cupoteap · 24/02/2018 14:55

The boot has a box of toys from my prexmas clear outBlush

PenelopeFlintstone · 24/02/2018 21:36

Oh. Lol. You know what you have to do...... :)

TheGrumpySquirrel · 24/02/2018 21:46

I’ve sorted all my clothes, packed away all non maternity and skinny clothes 😭 and started putting more things on living room shelves as we start to clear our bedroom for the refurb. Got a big bag for charity too. Feels so good!

PenelopeFlintstone · 24/02/2018 23:27

I get thwarted at every turn sometimes by myself : my daughter still wants to read those books, the disco ball would still look nice hanging up in her room, I would like to do that jigsaw. I have to be firmer with myself !!

Panda81 · 25/02/2018 01:16

@PenelopeFlintstone that reminds me of a Peppa Pig episode earlier today (and I thought of all of us!)

Grandma and Grandpa Pig were in the attic clearing junk. Except Grandpa Pig didn't want to get rid of his many ship in bottles, Grandma Pig didn't want to get rid of her hat collection. Then they all had a boogie to some old records until Peopa Pig announces they shouldn't throw anything away and should keep everything. Haha

Thankfully I've had a much more productive day. My folks collected a damaged dismantled wardrobe to take the tip (can't fit in my car with the baby). I also snuck them some textiles and shoes for the recycling.

I'm now only just going to bed as I've been sucked in to photo sorting on the laptop tonight and have managed to throw away a load of CDs storing photos and mixed music, all of which are stored and backed up electronically so no need for hard copies too.

Hope to continue some more tomorrow

PenelopeFlintstone · 25/02/2018 02:19

Sounds like my house, Panda :)
I've just moved on a set of toys and put a two-month-old sheet out the front so I can change it for the right size. It could stay here for years otherwise!!
There are about 5 bags out the front now to go in the car.
I live rural so in the car is good enough for me until I go to town.

My feet are hurting me now so I'm going to look for some excellent quality shoes online - not cheap rubbish that turn into clutter. Classic, reheelable shoes.

Panda81 · 25/02/2018 10:52

Regret staying up so late now, Baby was awake on/off from 5.30am 😫

TheGrumpySquirrel · 25/02/2018 12:40

Sorted husband's clothes today, another bag for charity 👍🏼

Cupoteap · 25/02/2018 15:13

Ds went through his books, some to go back to school, dd has swiped some (as have I), some for the childminder and some even made it to the bin!
