Join me in getting rid of at least one thing a day decluttering challenge?

I am trying to declutter, starting with our loft and garage both of which need some work doing so need to be a lot emptier! After they're done I want to declutter the rest of the house. I've already got rid of loads of stuff but I'm starting to lose motivation alone!

We have quite strict rules for what we can put in rubbish so I'm selling, free cycling, taking stuff to the clothes bank etc. At least one thing a day. I'm hoping to be done by Christmas!

Anyone want to join me?

I'm back now and will continue to bore update you with my daily one item ejections. One item or bag every day keeps me on track. Otherwise, I forget I'm doing it. The same applies to my diets.... Grin
And, by the way, my house looks even worse to me now since staying in clutter-free apartments for a couple of weeks! More motivation.

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/02/2018 21:15

And suitcases and dolls houses going out the door?! Big things!

PenelopeFlintstone · 04/02/2018 21:18

Good work MissCheery - do you have more to go?
And I'm wowing at all the paperwork being done. I think I'll get there last as I can just close my office door but need to sort out the areas viewable by the public.
Since getting back last night, my house looks a bit grimier than I remember Shock Doors, window frames, etc. Oh, dear.......

Also burned a load of confidential waste earlier. Made it easier by lighting a tea light and putting it on the hearth, then lighting the papers one at a time and putting them in the fire.

SandAndSea · 04/02/2018 23:18

Well done, everyone. This weekend, I took some more bits to charity and freebayed something. Steady's the way.

StealthNinjaMum · 05/02/2018 08:52

A productive weekend for everyone. Good work.

I should've have finished the paperwork this week so after that will focus on children's toys, schoolwork and arts and craft stuff. I agree penelope and sand steady's the way. It isn't so daunting when you do little bits every day and then one day you realise you've moved a mountain.

Also waiting in now for people who want to buy things / take them for free. Somebody wants my suitcases which I am really happy about.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 05/02/2018 08:56

A massive box of paperwork gone, simply plonked it in front of DH as it was all his, and to my shock he actually went through it all and chucked most of it on the fire. Gained 1 storage box 👍🏼

TheGrumpySquirrel · 05/02/2018 08:58

Sorry, I've been too lazy to make a Kondo thread. I did also convert 2 shoeboxes of clutter and chargers etc into 1, and got rid of loads. Still not sure where to store various bits like this. Is there some sort of messy drawer organiser thing around?

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/02/2018 10:23

@TheGrumpySquirrel Sorry, I've been too lazy to make a Kondo thread.
Don't rush to it on my account Smile After being away and seeing my place afresh, I think I might need to keep going with this one for a while Blush

SandAndSea · 05/02/2018 10:39

Grumpy - I think sometimes what we interpret as 'lazy' can be an inner knowing that it isn't for us or perhaps the timing isn't right at the moment. Starting things which aren't really right for us just creates more clutter. No need to put pressure on yourself.

PenelopeFlintstone · 05/02/2018 10:57

Words of wisdom, above.

SandAndSea · 05/02/2018 15:56

Thanks, Penelope.

I've just done some more paperwork and have also decluttered loads of biscuits! (My reward.)

StealthNinjaMum · 05/02/2018 16:43

Ha ha excellent decluttering!

I did a bit more paperwork. I have nearly finished the paperwork but am slightly worried about some boxes that were hiding under the other boxes. I'm hoping they're not more paperwork. I did some paperwork today and also some arts and crafts tidying but the house was a mess from the weekend so mainly did housework. I have cleared my hall of paperwork and filed everything on the 'post' table! The post table is EMPTY. (A year ago it had a two foot pile of post on it).

SandAndSea · 05/02/2018 19:25

Was cooking dinner and found 3 items in my pots cupboard to donate to charity. Worth mentioning I think! Smile

CapricornWithAUnicornHorn · 05/02/2018 20:51

Can I join! Love a de clutter and the house has been neglected a bit these past few weeks.

Currently renovating so there is shit EVERYWHERE. However, my new furniture has lots of storage so I have no excuse not to have a place for everything.

SandAndSea · 05/02/2018 22:00

Welcome, Capricorn!

Gibble1 · 05/02/2018 23:36

The dolls house is gone! She paid £40 for it so she is happy, DD is happy and I am delighted 😁. May have a kenwood cheap and about eleventy billion extras going with it tomorrow. Only listed it for £25 but I want it gone!
Also sold another bracelet today so that’s another £3 for the pot.
My rubber ducks arrived today. Thought they’d make good woggles. They’re tiny so will make good pencil toppers 😂

StealthNinjaMum · 06/02/2018 10:11

I would love to get rid of our dolls house but dd has just started playing with it (after ignoring it for 5 years) so would be distraught if it went.

I have sold 6 books today and am still waiting to hear from the woman who wants my free suitcases.

I'll be doing more paperwork again and arts and crafts stuff! I might also start to 'declutter' my old laptop - maybe do half an hour a day of deleting photos (but it's so boring!) A couple of years I ago I bought cheap story cassettes from eBay and a device to save them onto my laptop. That device has sat on the post table ever since and I would like to put them onto USB sticks and free some space as we must have 30 cassettes. Also my children will be too old for the stories soon!

Welcome capricorn!

PenelopeFlintstone · 06/02/2018 10:33

maybe do half an hour a day of deleting photos Could you do it in front of the telly?
I'm so jealous of everyone's recent progress, but I'm jetlagged and so tired. I need to find one thing to get rid of - just one thing!

StealthNinjaMum · 06/02/2018 12:37

I did half an hour of deleting files and I could see my ancient laptop was actually working faster so I am now trying to learn how to use my cassette recording software - might get dh to look at it as I'm struggling a bit. It's so stupid, you can't even see the files but I feel good knowing that my laptop is being cleaned up too. I need to work out how to save important documents next. Anyway I am off now to do proper physical decluttering!

Make yourself a cup of tea Penelope I always find something I don't need in a kitchen cupboard - or gone off food.

PenelopeFlintstone · 06/02/2018 20:24

Thanks Ninja. I have found something. An ancient laptop. Typically though, I then spent half the evening trying to find out if it had any vintage value.

StealthNinjaMum · 07/02/2018 15:25

Really unmotivated today so I couldn't face paperwork. I have just thrown away cassettes from the 80s/90s that I recorded music on, a couple of ancient catalogues/ leaflets and some old computer CDs. I have also put 3 books and a picture frame in the charity shop / to sell piles.

SandAndSea · 07/02/2018 16:33

Me too, Ninja. It feels like the weather.

Well done anyway. I'm shredding as I type! Halo

StealthNinjaMum · 07/02/2018 18:10

Yes I was a bit depressed earlier. It is taking so long and while rationally I know I am doing a good job, getting rid of stuff and my life is easier the house looks messier than it has ever looked as drawers are emptied everywhere, paperwork is in piles, I have suitcases in the hall waiting to be picked up and a big charity shop and Facebook pile. Going to try to put dc to bed early so I can do a bit more.

SandAndSea · 07/02/2018 18:16

Oo, I know that messy stage well; that was me just before Christmas. Keep reassuring yourself. You're doing really well and the mess is only temporary. Star
