Join me in getting rid of at least one thing a day decluttering challenge?

I am trying to declutter, starting with our loft and garage both of which need some work doing so need to be a lot emptier! After they're done I want to declutter the rest of the house. I've already got rid of loads of stuff but I'm starting to lose motivation alone!

We have quite strict rules for what we can put in rubbish so I'm selling, free cycling, taking stuff to the clothes bank etc. At least one thing a day. I'm hoping to be done by Christmas!

Anyone want to join me?

But Gibble, has the cheeseboard been 'fully decluttered'?!?! Grin

Gibble1 · 01/01/2018 20:55

Give me a chance Penelope 😂

MajesticWhine · 01/01/2018 21:38

I badly need to declutter so joining thread for encouragement. I have filled three bags of
crap from my bedroom drawers. It's a drop in the ocean but it's a start.

Betsy86 · 01/01/2018 21:40

Happy new year all let the decluttering bring us joy this yearxx

BendoverK · 01/01/2018 21:40

Have decluttered a small amount of plastic cutlery from my drawer today. This counts right..?

Gibble1 · 01/01/2018 21:50

I’ve just decluttered a bottle of Crabbies and 2 tiny (shot glass tiny) cheesecakes. And am now decluttering a cuppa before bed. Have to work at 7am 😞

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/01/2018 00:02

three bags of crap from my bedroom drawers Sounds like a lot!

Have decluttered a small amount of plastic cutlery from my drawer today. This counts right..? For sure!

Lol at @Gibble1 decluttering her fridge :D

Betsy86 · 02/01/2018 03:07

Couldn’t sleep at all so have been sat up decluttering 3 boxes of make up/body creams/nail varnish etc.
Thrown quite alot of old bits out and atleast now i know what i have and dont need to buy body stuff for a while as had some nice bits for xmas to.
One resolution is to paint my nails and pay attention to them more as i rarely do it so atleast iv rediscovered my nice varnishes now.
One large ish bag of stuff gone atleast. Hoping i might nod off now little one be up before i know it xx

Great use of the small hours, Betsy. Smile

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/01/2018 06:13

Chipped mugs. What do you all think? Keep or chuck. They still work Grin

Cupoteap · 02/01/2018 07:00

Morning can I join - I went through the kids undies and pjs yesterday plus ds shoes so an ikea bag full 😮

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/01/2018 07:07

Nice work, Cupoteap.

MajesticWhine · 02/01/2018 08:28

@PenelopeFlintstone I vote yes, you should chuck the chipped mugs.

Freshprincess · 02/01/2018 09:06

Penelope - chuck 'em. I threw 6 mugs away yesterday that were either chipped or stained. I didn't use, didn't like so why are they taking up space?

I'm back to work in Thursday, so I'm going to de-Christmas my house and get rid of the decorations I didn't use this year.

I've made January the month I'm tackling the paper mountain.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/01/2018 10:28

I do use mine though because all my others end up in my daughter's bedroom, and then I can't make a coffee in the morning. I know; I'll chuck them and then have my own cup and hide it or put it on a chain in the kitchen.
I took all my Christmas decorations down today too.
Out of the house has gone: multiple Christmas bauble boxes, a cardboard box for a stereo bought about 6 years ago, and a stained scarf that didn't wash clean today on a 60 wash.

StealthNinjaMum · 02/01/2018 11:19

Penelope the thread is one thing a day. I lurked on another thread about a year ago where the posters were getting rid of one carrier bag a day and i decided to do that so when I joined this thread I carried. I suspect the people on the other thread 'finished' their declutter but I was the only one with literally enough junk to actually get rid of a bag a day for a year! Sorry for any confusion.

It has got to the point for me where I want to focus on tidying and setting up systems rather than just getting rid of stuff (although I probably could still get rid of another 100 carrier bags of stuff) so I am now just getting rid of 1 thing a day - which is a nice achievable aim.

StealthNinjaMum · 02/01/2018 11:23

Penelope I gave some mugs away to a charity shop that weren't chipped or stained just because we had too many.

Could you get a special mug printed with an embarrassing baby picture of your daughter? Maybe she wouldn't use it?

Majestic three bags in one go, wow, that's loads. It must be lovely having empty drawers now.

StealthNinjaMum · 02/01/2018 13:07

Sorry multiple updates from me. After doing nothing yesterday I have just gone through some arts and craft stuff and put aside 2 bags of sticker books, colouring in books and some unused stencils and stamps to give to a local preschool. The teaching assistant who is collecting can't pickup until Sunday so yet more mess I am desperate to get rid of! As usual I have taken things out of our incredibly messy cupboards and temporarily made the house look worse!

Betsy86 · 02/01/2018 17:28

Good work everyone :)
Yes chuck the chipped mugs :)
Well done stealth atleast you know those bits will be going put the door sunday!
I did the same emptied things out and made it all looks worse. Went back to tip today with some bags of rubbish and carboard packaging from the last few days have over a week until bin day so didnt want to clog up the bin to soon so thats some bits gone.
Recycled a load of crappy hangers whilst there to that have been cluttering up my room for ages so thats some progress for today atleast.
Shall declutter the ferrero rocher tonight lol x

StealthNinjaMum · 02/01/2018 19:25

I messaged the preschool lady on the offchance she could pick the stuff up and she came today. I madly ran around the house filling the bags with games and toys that I hadn't managed to sell on Facebook and ended up donating four bags of stuff (which I had to leave on the doorstep so as to not upset dds). Feeling pleased I've made a good start to the year.

MajesticWhine · 02/01/2018 21:29

Any idea what I should do with manky old cushions and such like? I would prefer not to send them to landfill.

Gibble1 · 02/01/2018 21:50

Wash them and give to rspca?
I have put away a bag of Christmas presents. I have put a bag for life full of paperwork into recycling and another massive bag of everyday recycling too.
3 less massive bags in my dining room 😁

StealthNinjaMum · 02/01/2018 22:03

Yes a local animal sanctuary or rescue centre might take the cushions.

MajesticWhine · 02/01/2018 22:35

Ah thanks - good idea, i will find out

PenelopeFlintstone · 03/01/2018 09:07

I dropped the two bags from the other day at the charity shop today. I'm quite rural so can't do it every day.
I also chucked about 10 old nail polishes from my daughter's room yesterday. Hope she doesn't notice. They were old and almost empty.
I'm not sure what I'm going to chuck out today. I've been at work today.
Thanks for that clarification StealthNinjaMum - please don't apologise. I was just a bit too lazy to go back and read the whole thread. :/
(I don't have emojis when I'm on my laptop.)
