Last thread was huge, so have started a new one.

I am working through books; where is everyone else?

I have two weeks off soon & have high hopes for progress

Hi, can I join you, like other I read the book a couple of years ago, did clothes and books and then stalled when I got to paperwork. We have a huge filing cabinet bursting at the seams although I have been better at disposing of incoming paperwork, so I haven't been adding to it.

I've requested to join the FB group too, it's good to have company along the way

wobblywonderwoman · 29/06/2017 18:55

Thank You Anthony.

I started decluttering on a thread called 'm' on here four years ago. I was really ruthless and managed to stay that way for a long time. A house move, two DC and toys books and baby gear along with less time has led to a bit of a problem again. Also clothes and jewellery tastes have changed due to lifestyle/ body shape. So I have been giving away a lot of cots, clothes, jewellery etc.

After DC are in bed this evening I am tackling christmas decorations. Every October I say I will do it but its so busy for me then. It will only take half an hour if I really get stuck in. This year I am going for silver in the main living area so I am going to spray all of my red wooden letters etc.

Tomorrow I am labelling baskets in my wardrobe and getting ruthless with everything. I have pretty labels and white baskets so it should look nice. Will photograph.

Leeloo2 · 30/06/2017 12:54

Labelling and pretty boxes sounds good Wobbly, I'm sure marie kondo herself wouldn't approve, as you're meant to leave storage until the end, but I do find if I've 'prettified' a decluttered space then I'm more appreciative of it.

My microwave broke a couple of nights ago, and the new one came via Amazon yday, so instead of letting it hang around, I've just taken it and the old, broken rotadry to the tip. Not huge progress, but better than it all taking up room in my house for ages. :)

My toddler has fallen asleep in the car though, so I'm stuck here for a little while. :)

Ohb0llocks · 30/06/2017 13:40

Can I join in?

We move house in 2 weeks so I'm busy clearing out all the stuff we won't be taking and trying to organise the things we will!

ChampagneCommunist · 30/06/2017 18:11

Another small category done today in paper (business cards). Just three more left in paper.

Also, I found another batch of course notes, from 2003-2006. All gone in the recycle bin.

I have also re-opened my Etsy shop & listed a few items. I plan to try and add an item each day until all my current stock is on there.

So far KonMarie has not rubbed off on DP at all. He is very cynical about it all.

I've just downloaded the book so going to have a read of that tonight! Cleared out 5 bin bags of crap today though! Clothes, old paperwork etc

Banalarama · 01/07/2017 12:39

I read the book three years ago - or so. And it has really stayed wth me. I cleared our house out (using her basic ideas though I didn't slavishly follow the order or anything) and found it amazingly helpful.

I think she has truly changed my mindset and freed me up from hanging on to things I don't need or like.

I have a family member who very kindly passes me on handme downs for my child and the expectation is that I use them and pass them on to another family member. It's all spoken about very openly so everyone expects me to play my part. The only problem is that I end up having to hold on to the stuff for the other member for years because they live overseas and we only see them occasionally. I've absorbed the Kondo message so thoroughly that I find the bags in the attic a mental drain! Any ideas what I can do? Probably there is no answer to this ridiculously 1st world problem. I'm feeling a bit ashamed to type it! (I do already send some pieces to the charity shop that I don't want and I filter the stuff a bit if it's not suitable for the next member because of seasons or type of clothes ......) the thing is Kondo can work too well!

Heirhelp · 01/07/2017 14:36

Hi everyone,

I started Kondoing a couple of months ago. I have done clothes except for the stuff one size down was I was losing weight when I started Kondoing. Today I have done clothes and medicines. I kind of lost my way for a while as I really don't have time (bedtime refusing toddler) but at the moment I feel over whelmed by stuff.

EnidNextDoor · 02/07/2017 11:43

Just a reminder for anyone who is interested - I have joined the kin Marie Facebook group too and the 41 week course starts tomorrow.

auburny · 02/07/2017 13:17

I'm approaching Kondo in fits and starts to fit in with life.

Did clothes last week. Love the result! I was already folding clothes cleverly though. Just tackled three kitchen drawers and have a bin liner full of clutter! Having a tea break before tackling another couple of drawers- the kitchen is the biggest job in my house. Years spent shoving things anywhere they'll fit- no more! Sick of clutter!

Amory · 05/07/2017 15:14

Hello all, please may I join?

I've got both books, and re-reading as I have also just joined the FB group mentioned above.

I find it hard to let go of stuff and just move everything round the house time and again.

Hope to check in regularly to keep me on track.

Starting with clothes first, as suggested, what should we do with the different sizes? I need to keep both 'fat' clothes and clothes to slim into, so what is the official rule?

EnidNextDoor · 05/07/2017 15:24

No rule other than only keep it if you love it. If you were slimmer would you love to wear that stuff or would you prefer to shop for new stuff? I would still love to wear the old stuff so I'm keeping it.

That group is very strict though so they might not agree with what I say! There is a more relaxed group on fb but the strict one is the one doing the 41 week challenge.

Amory · 05/07/2017 15:35

Thanks Enid. I will keep what sparks joy in that case.

Twinklyfaerieglade · 05/07/2017 15:39

Went of the App Store. Couldn't find clutterless app. Help!!!!!

UserThenLotsOfNumbers · 05/07/2017 15:51

Please may I join? Watching with interest as just decluttered my flat. Several bin bags of junk. It's ok now but need more efficient storage and to buy less trinkets to be honest. Flat is clean but could be better.

We now have a permanent home, but we moved 3 times in 3 years (rentals - landlords selling), my husband had cancer and we then had our daughter, who was premature. Both are fine now thankfully.

I feel so much better for getting rid of that stuff, I love knowing where most things are. I want to maintain and improve upon this. Thanks!

Amory · 06/07/2017 21:17

I've removed 4 carrier bags from the house in anticipation of starting clothes in the next couple of days.

I'll update on progress next week, as following the 41 week Facebook plan above.

purplegreen99 · 07/07/2017 14:43

I am in the process of Kondoing quite slowly, so it's good to read this thread and feel a bit of inspiration from you all. I started around 5 months ago and have nearly finished papers. I've also jumped ahead and done a couple of little komono categories when I got bored with papers, but am trying to stick with the proper order.

I've had loads of family and work things going on that have meant sometimes not doing any tidying for 2 or 3 weeks, so it tends to be done in bursts of a day or two at a time but as a serial hoarder and messy person, it's amazed me that the bits I've done have stayed done - I still love opening my drawers to look at my nicely folded clothes :)

I used to feel quite despondent about the state of the house but the konmari method makes so much sense to me and I can see a way to getting the house looking nice and getting rid of all the stuff we don't need and that is such a huge relief after decades of mess.

One thing I haven't really done properly is the vision. I have a vague idea of what I'd like the house to be like, but I find it hard to be specific - I just want a nice, uncluttered space. How have other people done the vision? I was wondering about doing a Pinterest board but maybe that's a bit too Homes and Interiors rather than explaining how I want the house to feel or the kind of life I'd like?

niceandspicey · 08/07/2017 19:51

Hi all.

Moving house soon, and got a few months off work so hoping to use this method to get the house organised and raise funds via car boots.

Can I join in? Not on FB so will follow updates on here.

Also looking for the Clutterless App and can't find it. Can anyone help me? Maybe it's called something else?

Thanks

LittleWingSoul · 08/07/2017 21:32

Earlier this week I condensed 10 years worth of photos that were in albums (teenage - early 20s) into one small infant-size shoe box. I think if I went through them again in a year I could cull it even more.

Teenage years didn't really spark joy in me... And If the overarching feeling of negativity is there when I look at them now, at 31, I can't really see myself fondly looking at them in my old age.

Anyone else got to the sentimental things stage of kondoing yet?

purplegreen99 · 11/07/2017 09:34

LittleWingSoul that is interesting about photos. I am dreading doing them because I have about 10 albums plus a huge box stuffed with the envelopes you used to get when you had old film developed, and a shoebox full of memory cards Hmm. I know there will be lots that are just bad photos of the back of someone's head but lots of others that will be quite emotional to sort through. But on the other hand I think my grandparents left behind a single album of photos of their whole lives - and in a way that is enough, just the main people, events that spark joy, etc.

At the moment I don't even look through the photos because there are just too many and I'd have no idea how to find what I want most of the time. Hope I can get them sorted like you have & LittleWingSoul and enjoy the ones that spark joy and I like the idea of letting go of the not so good times too.

purplegreen99 · 11/07/2017 09:42

niceandspicey I just googled the Clutterless app and it's been withdrawn from the app store and itunes - no idea why :(

niceandspicey · 11/07/2017 12:06

Purple thanks for checking that out for me. Will keep an eye out for other apps.

GrubbyWindows · 12/07/2017 10:05

Re Clutterless- presumably because there is now an official KonMari app, so they've cracked down on potential copyright infringement...

niceandspicey · 12/07/2017 12:00

Ah great Grubby thanks. Didn't even think of searching that Confused

purplegreen99 · 12/07/2017 15:18

Grubby thanks - I didn't know KM had her own app - off to download it now.
