Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Sanscollier · 27/06/2017 10:47

Hi all! Hope everyone ok! I didn't sleep all night as I was worried about dh. Trying to crack on with work project atm.

Thanks for eveyrone's good wishes! Happily, dh seems no worse and we has another doc appt at 5pm. I'm worried about the high blood pressure though as he usually has good bp. He's the sort of person who never takes time off work if he can possibly help it, and always underplays/diminishes illnesses, so I always pay attention when he says he's ill!

And thanks for good wishes re: dd too! It is all a bit stressful tbh!

Glad to hear you finally had a good night Einstein! Hope you feel better for it (I sometimes feel worse when I have slept really well ifyswim! Must be old age!)

You (and your ds) did well to get to the café Zoo; not easy when they are ill.

Congrats on nearly 2 mths of Flying Rosa and good luck with the play room sorting! Like BluePheasant I am going to do the same thing (and other decluttering in the house) during the holidays!

Bluepheasant btw, if you do a search on here under "products" there are loads of threads about which hoover is best etc, which might help you with your choice.

Good luck with your busy days everyone!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/06/2017 11:43

SC, sounds v stressful for you all Flowers. Glad your DH has an appointment to recheck things.

Ta da:-
2 bags left out (and taken!) for charity collection
Cat to vet for check up - all good.

DD2 has school visit this afternoon. Had been going to take her out for lunch first (she asked and I thought it would be a nice positive thing to link with school) but she was messing around in the car so we are not going. Proud of myself for following though Star although now actually have to make lunch Grin

To do:-
Lunch
Laundry
School visit
Try to do some more with all the stuff that is now all over the house from under the bed Angry.
Out for work meal tonight Grin with lovely people so need to be super organised after school today.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 27/06/2017 11:44

BluePheasant, how annoying about the hoover Angry. Also zoo, hope your DS feels better soon. M

Cagliostro · 27/06/2017 13:52

Scan was a bit of a let down - awkward little Cagletini refused to move so couldn't do half the checks. Back in 8 days and hopefully will be able to discover the sex then too!

Rosabellajames · 27/06/2017 14:00

sc I must have missed about your dh, hope everythings ok!

stressy it's a great feeling when bags of 'stuff' leave the house isn't it!! Well done for donating them.

Ta da
15 mins of clothes away
I've spent most of the morning in and out of the playroom and.........I can actually see some floor Shock , still a long way to go though. A bag of rubbish and a black binliner full of baby toys, an activity table, ball pit with balls and a big bulky fisher price thing have all found a new home Grin !! So its not going to actually leave the home until I go to visit mum at the beginning of August, but it's going to live in the boot of the car until then so it's out of the house and I don't forget to take it with me !! haha

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 27/06/2017 14:15

Back to feeling like a totally spaced out grumpy zombie. There will be no flying except there has to be as I need to find stuff for tomo
only just got to point where breakfast can be eaten - insane day. And considering nice ice cream for breakfast and lunch instead of proper food. naughty einstein
The other consideration is a nap. A nap sounds lovely except my luck says I would sleep through until tomo and that there would a crisis over tea.
Sulking in the naughty corner in the meantime.

BluePheasant · 27/06/2017 18:33

How did school visit go stressy? Well done for sticking to your guns, think this age is when they really start testing us to see if we mean business Grin

Hope you feel better Einstein

Shame about your scan cag, fingers crossed for next one!

Ta das

x2 loads washing
Kitchen cleaned up after dinner
DDs preschool homework ready for fri
Tidied playkitchen and bits and bobs
Put some outgrown toys in storage back in loft
Tidied bottom of wardrobe in DD room

To dos

Lunches for tomorrow
Washing on airer as didn't fully dry outside Hmm
Sort out Lego as out of control!
Random dvds that have been retrieved from lounge to go back in storage box

Cagliostro · 27/06/2017 19:36

Yep fingers crossed rather than baby's legs hopefully :o feel a bit deflated if I'm honest which is silly as it's only next week and we get to see baby again which is lovely really

Sanscollier · 27/06/2017 20:22

Evening everyone! Thought I would post the links on time for once!!

Hope everyone is ok. We are a bit more relaxed/reassured tonight because dh has had a thorough check over by the doc and she doesn't think it is anything cardiac/blood pressure related. And guess what - she has told him to take some time off and stop working so hard - and I have tried to back up that message with knobs on! Dh and I have also decided to go on a diet. We shall see ... we shall see.

Also, we didn't receive any phone calls from school so we reckon that means dd has passed her year (although we will find out about indiv exams and if she has to do any re-sits on Thurs). Phew! Just very happy she doesn't have to repeat the year! Smile

Whey hey re: decluttering Toostressy and hope school visit went well!

Sorry that Caglitini is keeping you in suspense Cag! More to look forward to though I suppose ... .

Rosa top marks for playroom decluttering!

[Bring Brew and Cake to Einstein in the haughty corner [where I will be joining you]

Wow! Congrats on an extremely productive day BluePheasant!

Big wing flaps to everyone else!

The summary for Wednesday 28th June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 28 for Wed 28th is here. Taking care of ourselves: if we don't do it, who will? Make sure you eat and drink properly and get plenty of rest. (I should be adding more exercise in to the mix too!)

We are in Zone 5 this week : The Living Room, Den, Family Room (June 25-30) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 5 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Wednesday's mission is sofa and chair-diving!.

The daily focus for Wednesday is anti-procrastination. Do something you have been avoiding doing!

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Well done re: all of your lists achieved so far - keep at it fledglings!

Sanscollier · 27/06/2017 20:28

I feel rather a fraud posting links tbh as I am not doing any Flying at all other than minimal routines atm. All I have really achieved this month is a clear up of the boudoir which is now a pig-sty again [sigh]. I always underestimate how busy the last month of term is - it has been a case of survival - everyone fed relatively nutritious meals, everyone has had clean clothes, and clean bed linen, and the kitchen, bathroom and sitting room are relatively orderly and I've done quite a bit of 'work' work and over-seeing of renovations. That is it Sad No progress on the decluttering front whatsover ... Blush A bit crap really but there we are! Smile Must try harder!!!!!!!

OP posts:
YesEinsteinsMumDid · 27/06/2017 21:13

Ooooooo cake Cake that is needed thank you

SC for heavens sake cut yourself some slack. You were up half the night with health concerns for DH. You have been working on a major project. You are not superhuman! and if you keep giving yourself grief for not getting more done not only are you not flying but you are going to stress yourself into an early grave! Give yourself a flipping break woman!!!!!

Sanscollier · 27/06/2017 22:21

And thanks for the coffee and brioche (if I have that correct!) in return Einstein! Thanks for encouragement too; just slightly horrified that we are half way through the year and I can count on one hand the amount of BRC decluttered so far! And I had such great plans for this year too! Never mind, there is always the haughty corner ...Grin

OP posts:
CotswoldStrife · 27/06/2017 23:30

This last half-term is always manic, the school have had to postpone a couple of events for various reasons which is making the calendar look even more crowded in places!

I seem to spend large parts of the day washing up (in addition to our dishwasher) and really need to cut down on the stuff we use that won't go in the dishwasher! I seem to get through a lot of baking trays and plastic novelty cups ...

Some very light flying accomplished today. Something to build on

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/06/2017 06:38

Afreshstartplease · 28/06/2017 06:59

Morning all.

Crap day at work yesterday, boss quite off with me I suspect because of asking for reduction in hours. Really struggle to be spoken to like crap with out screaming FUCK OFF. Reply to my request was "we will look into it" Well if the answer is no I shall resign and TBH I am giving it til the end of the week and if attitude does not improve they can stick it anyway. Cba with someone who wants to act like your best mate when you will bend over backwards for them but if you make things slightly inconvenient for them they suddenly give the cold shoulder.

Anyway. Rant over.

Ta Da

One load dry
Dryer reloaded
Washer reloaded
Dry dishes away

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 28/06/2017 07:12

Morning, just quickly Afresh, you could make a formal flexible working request if need be. They can still refuse / amend your request but they need to come up with a good business reason for doing so.

Afreshstartplease · 28/06/2017 07:36

Thanks stressy

There isn't really a good business reason to say no. There isn't really one at all. But we seem to be having a strop about it. Hmm People need to realise other things take priority over your business
and I will leave if my request isn't granted TBH cause I don't need the job that much and if people are gonna be stroppy with me I have zero time for that.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 28/06/2017 09:25

zoo you are a genius. Exactly what is needed this morning.

ta da
wash clothes needed to wear this morning - they are currently in the dryer
Send ds to school covered in bruises after his adventures last night Hmm
find school socks from the sockpile of doooooom - now with added spiders Hmm
Shout at the tv due to stupid people and politics. Angry
Ponder put on some thomas the tank engine for nostalgic reasons and as something light and fluffy - come to senses rapidly. Blush

I have an hour before I need to be up and out. Must find the bits that need finding for the meeting but I didn't bother to find yesterday. Blush My brains are still mushy zombie today with added weather ache. I guess i need to cut down the caffeine again

Rosabellajames · 28/06/2017 09:37

ta da
currently slurping a hot coffee
beds made
kids at school

Got lots done yesterday, I don't know where to start today though. I really should've wrote my list last night.

To do
s&s
15 mins ironing
15 mins putting clothes away
Something/anything in the playroom!!

Good luck cag
stress I really hope the work situation gets resolved soon, there's nothing worse than being unhappy at work.
sc I'm sure it'll all come together one day, not being on this group long I'm not sure on your background but from what I've picked up you're renovating? That in itself is so time consuming, it'll be worth it in the end, I'll repeat to you, what you 'say' to me - baby steps, one day at a time.

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/06/2017 09:52

Rosa you took the words for *sc" out of my mouthGrin

CotswoldStrife · 28/06/2017 11:13

Morning! almost ready to get going now at five past eleven

Have been shopping this morning, need to menu plan for the next 10 days or so due to overcrowded calendar and overcrowded freezer! Very rainy here today, actually managed to talk to a couple of people this morning (I can go all day without speaking to anyone until late afternoon sometimes Sad ) although one had only approached me because they wanted a favour really Hmm

Going to crack on with housework and wait in hopefully for someone to drop round with a delivery around lunchtime (this was also postponed from earlier this week). It's the week of postponements!

Back at lunchtime which will be soon

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 28/06/2017 12:40

I don't mind decaff, i would rather decaff than no coffee tbh. But right now I chose the ice cream to go with a dose of steroids.

Today I have collected medical appointments. Hmm hey ho, joys of being female, having no immune system and daring to step foot in the doctor's surgery to request a repeat prescription. HmmHmm
But as a result I have tucked myself back into bed as it seems there might be a medical reason behind the zombie brain, one which isn't the recent bout of insomnia Shock

ta da
request meds
asthma meds reviewed
bought a plastic storage tub for knitwear - had to change storage approach due to the fucking moths and their recent invasion
