October Fledgling thread 2016: where we fluff up our feathers and fall back in to autumnal Flying routines

Welcome to the October 2016 Fledgling Flying thread!

Come and park your broomsticks mops and buckets here!

This is where, from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here , here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Argh just posted a really long reply and then lost it! The general jist (sp?!) was sorry for everyone who is struggling at the moment and passing out Cake and Brew for all. And all I've done today is the washing and the dishwasher. And we've got three toddlers here for dinner later so I'm having a rest before the mayhem!

Strikingclock · 27/10/2016 14:49

qazxc · 27/10/2016 14:50

Hi everybody,
Progress here is slow, but moving in the right direction and keeping up with the clean kitchen and bathroom routine.
Today's ta dad :
Washing up and clean up after breakfast and lunch.
Bathroom swish and swipe.
Bathroom and kitchen floors swept and mopped.
I think I've managed to unblock vacuum, various filters have been washed and are drying. So fingers crossed for a functioning vacuum in the next few days.
Sorted through one box of paper crap.

I aim to do a bit if ironing ( toddler allowing).

Strikingclock · 27/10/2016 14:52

Oh god I remember the baby puke days!

Thanks SC I am lucky it's usually only one day that it really gets to me. I did actually have period pain (as opposed to just the usual stuff) last night which is unusual, fell asleep on sofa and only woke up vaguely to find DH tucking me into various blankets with a hot water bottle! Tomorrow should be ok.

:o at the various Receptacle of Random Crap names :o pretty sure I just live in an HRC (the H standing for House)

qazxc · 27/10/2016 17:07

Ah yes dd was a champion stealth baby puker. You'd suddenly realise that you had some in your hair or your back, and wonder how many people saw it.

Strikingclock · 27/10/2016 17:22

Believe it or not, dd once puked in to dh's y-fronts when he was in a seated position - I was quite impressed Grin

Tomorrow's baby-step no 28 for Fri 28th Oct is: here. An important one about slowing down and taking good care of ourselves; drinking water, eating well and getting enough rest [Foxes you have every right to throw your dinner plate at the computer screen at this point!]

Newcomers - here is the launch pad from which you can navigate the site:
www.flylady.net/c/lp.php .

Unusually, we have been in Zone 5 for the entire week this month: the sitting room/family room/den, 23-29 Oct inclusive here.

And yes I haven't been doing zone work this week wish I had.

Declutter for 15 mins in the current zone!
Once decluttered, you can go on to 15 mins of detailed cleaning.

Friday's mission can be found here. 15 mins getting rid of things that do not belong in your sitting room! The stuff that has "settled" there without anyone noticing!

The daily focus for Friday is: decluttering purses/handbags/cars + date night.

The habit for October is getting rid of paper clutter,
here: www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/.
(Scroll down for detailed explanation.)

The daily flight plan here: www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-120 will update itself (hopefully) and will provide a quick summary of the above.

Small steps everyone!

G'night all!

I most definitely cannot beat puking into mouth/y-fronts :o

I have achieved nothing today! Off to a friend's tomorrow for a play date/chat.

Afreshstartplease · 27/10/2016 22:03

Ta Da!

foxessocks · 27/10/2016 22:41

Ooh car declutter tomorrow! Going to really try to do it this time!

Ds is great at stealth sick but so far in my bra is his favourite spot so I can't beat y fronts or mouth ! But give us time!!

Fly lady can definitely sod off with her get enough rest Angry but I think it sounds like we're all needing more rest right now...hope some of us get some! I'm just waiting for ds to be properly asleep before I put him down for the night. Fingers crossed for more than an hour...maybe three that would be nice!

foxessocks · 27/10/2016 22:45

However I have been doing quite well with the eating properly! I didn't have any sweet stuff last few days but I did crack tonight and have a couple of chocolates after all the toddlers went home / to bed. House looked like an explosion in a toy factory when they had gone so I needed the energy boost. Actually after my declutter of the living room toy box / shelves this week I found tidying up much easier because everything had a place to go back to! Small victories!

fromwesttoeast · 28/10/2016 00:11

That's real evidence of progress Foxes Smile
Had less work to do today, ta das
Ironing
One regular washing (not yet put away) plus small darks load (still drying)
Errands - new swimming costume for DD plus boots for me and MIL. I absolutely hate shoe shopping as have very wide feet and nothing fits.
Put two bags of clothing in car for drop off to friend who is collecting for charity. Tried to drop off but friend not available at that time.
Filed my online tax return
Made cake to give another friend tomorrow
15 mins paper decluttering from the sideboard
Washing machine loaded and timer set

Cagliostro · 28/10/2016 01:28

Oh heck I need to do my tax return! I am clueless as never done it before. Blush I know I haven't earned anywhere near enough to pay tax but obviously still have to do it.

I have made a list of 25 games I want to try and get rid of. Some I am happy to just ditch straight away, others I'd like to play first so I know if they are actually good. 25! That's massive although still only about a seventh of our collection.

foxessocks · 28/10/2016 03:27

cag I've got to do a tax return for the first time too...January it's due isn't it? Im a bit clueless as well tbh!!

Love the idea of playing all the games first! I'd love a bit of a games marathon.

Ds just slept 4.5 hours! Happy days!

Cagliostro · 28/10/2016 03:38

Ooh that's good about the sleep! Well done little foxcub :)

Basically some of the games are ones we've had for ages and have just 'grown out of' (we are into more strategy type stuff now) but some I'm ashamed to say we've only played once or not at all, so I want to give them a proper try as otherwise I will forever wonder if I gave up something good! There's a lot of awesome games in our collection but I am thinking if we get rid of the less good stuff we will have more space and it'll be easier to play the games we really love.

And I'll have room for future purchases.

Right, seriously need to sleep now.
