October Fledgling thread 2016: where we fluff up our feathers and fall back in to autumnal Flying routines

Welcome to the October 2016 Fledgling Flying thread!

Come and park your broomsticks mops and buckets here!

This is where, from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here , here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Lord, as if you haven't got enough to deal with Babblehag. Did your friend know the dog had this problem before she flew off? Bit much if so! Wish I knew something about free-peeing dogs but I don't. Ours (so far) has bladder of steel but has lots of other issues. Must be so trying when you need to keep things in order for the inspection. And not so great with dc at home either. Brew Cake Hope your friend will be coming back to reclaim dog soon!

Babblehag · 24/10/2016 10:09

Apparently he's never done it before, I've had a google, it could be a range of things, scent marking over puppy pee, my puppy due to come in season, she is six months old so not unheard of shes also a small breed, or separation anxiety, it would be the longest time he has had away from owner, the solution is the same though, watch him like a hawk, and interrupt him when he looks likely to pee.

celeste83 · 24/10/2016 10:11

Babble If that dog was here it would be living outside by now Angry Did the owners tell you if the dog was house trained?

SC I would just like a little part time job to tie me over, get me out the house and has workable hours that fits around school times. Maybe a librarian or working in a coffee shop. The dream would be to work in a delicatessen or in the amazing sweet shop in our town. Oh, and heres a kick up the bum SC grin]

washed dishes
made beds

Miserable weather here today. Its still dark. Not doing my motivation levels any good this morning. ds is watching Cats & Dogs for like the 7th time since Saturday, bless him Smile

fromwesttoeast · 24/10/2016 10:37

Thanks for the round up!
Yesterday I plodded on with 15 mins paper stuff in the dining/work room. I'm working on the sideboard. It is covered with a line of ring binder files, and magazine files all of which need to be gone through as some of the stuff is now out of date. This is something for the long haul.
Got DS to help cut down garden overgrowth yesterday- although couldn't put it in the garden bin as that's being used as reserve bin after other DS decided to pull back general waste bin before it had been emptied last week. So garden now strewn with cut hedge etc.
Finished the ironing pile this morning!!

qazxc · 24/10/2016 11:10

Hi everyone!
Getting stuff ready last night , did help a lot this morning. I must try and remember how "future me" will be grateful when I'm tired and unmotivated in the evening.
Today I have :
Cleaned up after breakfast
Made beds
Put a load of washing in
Cleaned bathroom.
I am meeting my best friend with DD for lunch.
This afternoon I need to do a grocery shop and do more declutering.

JoinTheUnicorns · 24/10/2016 11:38

Poor babblehag, dog pee is grim.

Sounds like you got quite a bit done fromwest!

I have done the bleurgh!
magazines general tidy tbf we don't do magazines really
Hoover
mop
rubbish
bed sheets
door handles and light switches
dust a bit (kinda)

I also disassembled a cot, cracked it in the process, and then glued the broken back together.

So oops, but um...probably OK?

This is more productive than I usually am in an entire day so I'm feeling quite chuffed.

To do:
Roast chicken for dinner
Attack papers for a bit
Lunch
Go outside in some capacity
More sodding laundry

Ta das
Moved some of dds toys upstairs to her bedroom...trying to reclaim my living room a bit!
This resulted in me also decluttering her toybox in her room ... Then ds started crying so I've had to abandon it and dd is up there making even more mess so probably was a bad idea to start this just before dinner time / bath time / bed time. I never learn!

Dd also has a wee on her brand new bed earlier which was totally my fault but still. Typical!

This is a fantastic thread - I live in constant CHAOS and feel so bad for my teenage children that any suggestion of having friends over causes such stress and mad tidying panic!! The problem is the mad tidying panic sets us back weeks as piles of random things are shoved in rooms that won't be seen!

Hi, sorry, seemingly lurching from one minor emergency to the other here atm. Considerably better now but just spent 2 hrs in A&E with dd who had suspected appendicitis again. She was fine at school all day but had v severe pain this eve. Blood & urine tests fine and ultrasound fine Been sent home with instructions to come back if necessary. We are both sleeping downstairs on sofas tonight so I can keep an eye on her... .

Sorry, haven't read recent posts but will catch up tomorrow! Hope everyone ok!

Tomorrow's baby-step no 25 for Tues 25th Oct is: here. Bit of a flim-flammery one about not being perfect, using control journals, and how it took 7 months for Flylady to establish routines properly etc.

Newcomers - here is the launch pad from which you can navigate the site:
www.flylady.net/c/lp.php .

Unusually, we are in Zone 5 for the entire week this month: the sitting room/family room/den, 23-29 Oct inclusive here.

Declutter for 15 mins in the current zone!
Once decluttered, you can go on to 15 mins of detailed cleaning.

Tuesday's mission can be found here: here. 5 mins sofa diving!

The daily focus for Tuesday is: planning menus, outfits, holidays, appts etc.

The habit for October is getting rid of paper clutter,
here: www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/.
(Scroll down for detailed explanation.)

The daily flight plan here: www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-120 will update itself (hopefully) and will provide a quick summary of the above.

Small steps everyone!

Sends big hugs to you and dd
Theyxsay a woman's work is never done and I bet she wasn't even a mum
Fingers x you both manage at least some sleep
Xx

fromwesttoeast · 25/10/2016 00:16

Sorry about the health issues mentioned, Zoo and Babble
I thought I would do better today. Was fairly on course having done the ironing, did online grocery shop, washing up, dentist check ups, library, load of washing
Was going to do decluttering tonight but found the cat chasing a mouse round the room! Shock
Cat was just playing with it so in the end DH clunked the mouse with a hammer, after which the cat enjoyed some more fun with the corpse.
I had to clean up the bloodstains, and then get back to the work which had to be done before tomorrow morning! So now it's too late to declutter.
On the plus side our recycling bin has turned up outside a house further down the road. We know it's ours because it has our door number on it in big white gloss.

fromwesttoeast · 25/10/2016 00:18

Cross posted SC best wishes to DD!! So stressful when they are ill.
