October Fledgling thread 2016: where we fluff up our feathers and fall back in to autumnal Flying routines

Strikingclock · 30/09/2016 09:38

Welcome to the October 2016 Fledgling Flying thread!

Come and park your broomsticks mops and buckets here!

This is where, from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here , here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Hi all. Thanks for anniversary wishes Smile. Babblehag how frustrating! At least you have a nice clean house I guess. Grey glad job going well. SC thanks for the round up. Will post lists in a bit.

foxessocks · 19/10/2016 18:58

Gah. Mastitis just constantly getting worse and then better so I think I'm ok but then I'm really not Sad properly fed up.

Too stressy thanks for kind words on my miserable ranty thread!

MrsK · 19/10/2016 19:30

Evening all,

Ta da's
Matched socks (MrK rather fussy about his socks, like my Dad oddly)
I only buy black with coloured toe or similar for matching purposes & still we have the occasional these don't match moments.
Laundry put away
Roasted & peeled Peppers
Kitchen tidy
Food recycling out & Zoflar'd food bin
Living room 15 tidy

To do's

Watch Bake off
Have glass of wine

I have to say doing these 15 minute bursts here & there & getting into a regular routine is helping things stay rather neat & tidy.

Any tips for a vegetarian chilli in the slow cooker, can I even slow cook it? , MIL(😖) coming for dinner tomorrow & I'm out all day though wish I was out all night too 😉. I'm in charge of wine thankfully, after last occasion. MrK went to collect her it was a rather nice Summer evening I asked him to pick up a nice pale Rose. Bear in mind we have been together 31 years & I am quite "particular " in my tastes. I am anticipating something from Provenance he appears with something radioactively bright red. He gets all huffy & tries to blag his way out of it until I force him to try it queue 😝 from him. Wine is the only thing that will get me through the evening.

SC glad things appeared more normal this morning although very unsettling. Tinder box is a very apt description. Sounds as though you are having a very frustrating time with the bank. I saw a thread recently about teenage boys getting a bad rep, all the ones I've met have been rather charming & polite even when amiably tipsy. I've had a few walk DD home they've even given her their jackets so she didn't get cold. Still, I was rather relieved they didn't puke too.

Electric you were very busy this morning all that by 7am!

Babble all that work & they changed the date on you frustrating & very annoying for you I bet.

Foxes glad to hear antibiotics have brought the fever down hope they sort out the rest quickly & soreness subsides.

Still I m in awe of people that can knit I'm utterly useless in that department. I always wonder how you start & get the wool to stay on the needle. Should ask the H he used to knit his action men jumpers

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/10/2016 20:03

Foxes, rant away! I'm a HCP but have no specialist knowledge of breastfeeding (hence not giving advice on your thread). If you're no better tomorrow I would definitely phone your GP. If you feel properly unwell overnight you might need to call 111. Not qualified to give much more advice than that.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 19/10/2016 20:03

mrsk had to be busy! cat peed on the couch so had to make a start cleaning it before dh found it!

ta da's continued:

  • cleaned bathroom
  • steam mopped couch
  • dried couch cushions
  • washed up from dinner.
  • put load of washing in the machine for tomorrow.
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/10/2016 20:10

MrsK I'm sure you could do a veg chilli in the slow cooker but no real idea how as DH does all proper cooking in this house!

Ta da:-
Some work for my course (still sooooo much to do)
5 mins paper clutter decluttered wooo hoo - actually did some decluttering!
Laundry in progress
Easy tea planned
Bedtime (nearly)
Went for run

To do:-
Tea
Before bed routine
General quick tidy
Bit more study
Hoping to collapse in front of telly later if I don't waste too much time on MN
Start holiday packing list.

celeste83 · 19/10/2016 21:07

Evening all,

Why did they cancel the inspection Babble I'd be very annoyed by that.

Glad the new job is going well Grey Smile

I don't have a slow cooker so can't advise on that front MrsK i find chilli to be quite quick to cook though so i would do it on the spot Confused Hope the MIL visit goes well!

Today's ta das

put bins out for collection
took ds to pre school
made beds
washed dishes
cleaned fridge
cleaned microwave
cleaned kitchen bin
bleached kitchen sink
mopped kitchen floor
brought bins back in
picked up ds
made tea
washed dishes
zoflora'd kitchen tops
general tidy up

I shouldn't really add my ds into my ta das but he is a chore in himself Grin

Loving this Indian summer we are having. We've had some beautiful blue sky days lately here, today including. Raced through getting the kitchen done this morning so i could go for a run before lunch.

foxessocks · 19/10/2016 21:43

toostressy thank you I will indeed do that and have given dh all the facts so that if I'm too miserable to move he can ring the relevant people for me!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/10/2016 22:01

Good stuff foxes

BlueEyeshadow · 19/10/2016 23:01

veggie slow cooker chilli recipe, MrsK - there are tons online. The only thing you have to be careful of is that the beans are boiled for 10 minutes. I can knit a bit, though not very well - you start with a slipknot...

Flying hasn't happened much. Wrestling with trying to order school photos this evening, which isn't working either. Am off to London tomorrow so won't be getting anything done then either. Hey ho.

Night all!

Big wing flaps to you too Zoo I dropped off just as we were talking about animal combinations for kids, I remember that yours was very funny but I dropped off before getting the chance to reply.

I appreciate the naughty corner snacks. Meerkitten discovered croissants on holiday and it became a madness, we had to hide the croissants as she would just frantically point at them and wail and ignore all other food. I've been avoiding them like the plague in the supermarket since we got back so I'm hoping that she will have forgotten about their existence by now. I've never seen her so frantic for a type of food!

Hi Foxes sorry to hear about your mastitis, I caught your other thread as well and it sounds like you are having a rough time, I hope you feel better soon. I started developing it but was lucky and it was caught in the early stages when I developed flu like symptoms, I still remember how ill it made me feel Flowers Cake

SC police situation sounds awful, your poor DD getting caught up in it and your poor nerves too!

Thanks MrsK re name. I have enjoyed your teenage tales, I am in no doubt that having a teenager is much harder. I know I'm in the easy years at the moment in comparison, Meerkitten can't even say no yet Grin

Shesgotelectricboobs now that is a name! Grin is it an Austin Powers reference?

Trying to drag myself away The Fugitive which is on tv at the moment. I've seen it a million times but I love it and I always start watching and say I'll only watch a few minutes and I always end up staying up to the end and feel knackered the next day.

Me and DP are on day one of trying to do a dry month, it could be a long one!

Wing flaps to all Smile

Cagliostro · 20/10/2016 00:57

Hi all.

Rough evening here. One very stressed out DD remembering all the stuff she endured at school :( combined with the epic anxiety caused by the whole people dressing as clowns thing (apparently a big trend in our town) which her friend's older sister thought it was funny to tell them about Hmm especially as DH is on lates so comes home in the dark. It has been a tough evening.

Although I am much cheered up this evening by the mental image of the cute lil meerkitten demanding French pastry :o :o

8FencingWire · 20/10/2016 06:18

Agh! After a very good start with the paper decluttering, it all came to a grinding halt. But I've been busy! So the plan is to shred a bit more tonight.
We have a big family reunion at mine this weekend. The house is clean and clutter free, I'll straighten up a bit more closer to the time. But I'm very tempted to take everybody out for a meal rather than slaving over the stove for hours. I'll make cakes for coffee for the afternoon at mine's, but I'll take everybody out. Deal!

Shesgotelectricboobs · 20/10/2016 06:54

dogs i don't think it's Austin powers. It's Elton john - benny and the jets. A misheard song lyric "she's got electric boobs, a monkey suit I met her in amamameeeeeeennnn" I think it actually goes electric BOOTS a MOHAIR suit I read it in a magazine...

Austin powers if I recall was the fembots and machine gun jubblies. But they may also have had electric boobs..:!!

Ta das today (so far)
-fed cat
-scooped litter eugh

  • put cushion covers back on couch from yesterday's pee fiasco.

To do:

  • clean shower
  • Hoover bedroom floor
  • washing
  • clear dresser in bedroom
Greymalkin · 20/10/2016 09:24

Morning all,

Cag - your poor DD. This stupid clown nonsense has got beyond a laugh, it's actually taken a very sinister turn. I guess your DD will be needing lots of reassurance.

Foxes - mastitis is a b*h, especially when you get it bad. I hope you're better soon.

So DS and I have our regular at home day today. Lots and lots to do... I shall report back later....

Babblehag · 20/10/2016 09:35

morning all,
inspection was postponed owing to the person doing it being ill, very frustrating but I have had a reasonable looking house for nearly a fortnight.

not out of bed yet but i have a plan,
to do,
unload and load dishwasher
feed pets
send ds2 upstairs with a list of clothes to find to stay at his brothers for a few days
check ds2s bag
print out order forms/canvassing cards/collection dates and get ds2 and ds3 to bag up brochures.
bag up orders
take dogs for a walk
go to ds2s brothers.

see you all later

Furble · 20/10/2016 11:00

Morning All,
Still catching up on the thread and will resume flying next week but just wanted to pop on to say that we had a baby boy who arrived safely a week today. I was three days in labour at home (planned home birth) before the midwives realised the reason I had stopped progressing was that he had turned back to back so I had to go in for an emergency section. I'm recovering well and we've been home since Sat night, not got a routine going yet but am surviving!
My DH goes back to work next week and the house is currently a tip so I hope with the arrival of my mum next week that we'll be able to get it back into shape and start flying again!
Sending best wishes to all of you on the thread!
