October Fledgling thread 2016: where we fluff up our feathers and fall back in to autumnal Flying routines

Strikingclock · 30/09/2016 09:38

Welcome to the October 2016 Fledgling Flying thread!

Come and park your broomsticks mops and buckets here!

This is where, from the 1st of the month, we attempt to declutter and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here , here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

  • repeat or start baby steps (again!)
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

DD seems to be better as in no more sick but she is tired (she is having a nap at the moment). I've hardly moved from the sofa today, I feel tired and not at all motivated! DS has been asleep a lot of the day too so perhaps we are all just feeling the effects from last night. DH has been taking work phone calls and emails despite taking today as emergency holiday but never mind.

I have managed to do a tiny bit of flying -

Ta das
Room rescue bedrooms and living room
Loaded dishwasher
Hung up laundry and put some more on (running out of room to hang any more up since we did about 3 loads in the night!)
Did a quick detailed clean in the bathroom - cleaned the toilet thoroughly including round the back of it something I never usually do!

To do
Would like to at least do one more little bit of detailed cleaning in the bathroom but not sure if I can be bothered!

I can feel a headache coming on, think it's lack of sleep. I really should have a nap too but I'm sure as soon as I close my eyes DS will wake up and want feeding.

Hope your DS is feeling better babble?
Grey I've sat through toy story and shaun the sheep so far today on top of the peppa pig.
Hope all okay today zoo

Greymalkin · 13/10/2016 16:35

Glad they are on the mend Foxes - why is it that illness always seems to be worse, and feel worse, during the night? Glad you have had a quiet day though.

Hey Cag - hope you're all doing ok? How is your new term home-adding? I had a little grin the other week when you said you spotted my MN nickname in Macbeth - you are the only person on MN who has noticed it!!

Today has much improved at GreyTowers...

TaDa
Two loads of washing done and hung up to dry
Dry laundry all folded and put away
Room rescue in DS's bedroom
Shortbread made
Hand washing up done
Wipe down of kitchen table and surfaces
Cat litter trays dealt with
Clutter listed on Facebook selling sites
60 minutes ruthless paper decluttering

Fingers crossed, we are anticipating an exchange of contracts in our property chain by the end of the month and the actual move very late November/early December.

So I seriously need to get our shit together and redouble decluttering efforts. Although to be fair I am always decluttering, but have some real rocket-fuelled motivation now! Finding the time will be hard though now I am working again and DH is only home on the weekends....
However, we will be getting a full pack removal service when the time comes, it will be worth every penny!!

Babblehag · 13/10/2016 18:05

Thanks foxes he's fine, last time he was sick was at 7 this morning, he was counting down the minutes until 1 o'clock as I'd told him if he doesn't bring up the 4 slices of dry toast then he can eat normal food. He didn't but as he was sick and there is a 48 hour rule he's off school until after the holiday.

foxessocks · 13/10/2016 18:57

babble exactly the same thing here! We gave dd toast for breakfast and early lunch and told her if she still felt ok after her nap she coulf have fish fingers and chips! Toast stayed down so she got her dinner but I'm keeping her off preschool tomorrow because of the 48 hour rule too.

How old is your ds babble? Sorry if I've missed you sayong already

Babblehag · 13/10/2016 19:09

He's just turned 8 the baby of the family, not including the animals. Although I feel far too young to have my youngest son being 8, actually my mind is too young, my body is past it for my age.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/10/2016 19:30

Hi all, hope any poorly children are feeling better. SC thanks for the great round-ups. Zoo Flowers hope today went as well as it could.

Ta da:-
Preschool report finished StarStarStar
Bath time
Laundry on
Dishwasher loaded

To do:-
Bedtime
New job admin - 15 mins
Deal with all the bits of paper I have been carrying around all week and not looked at - must do this tonight even if it is late
Make to do list for tomorrow as have 3 childfree hours and must use them wisely!

Strikingclock · 13/10/2016 19:55

Evening all. Just walked the dog and it is certainly a bit fresh out there tonight!

I've spent most of the late afternoon/evening tearing my hair out trying to help dd with maths and science and I don't understand either :(

However, thankfully, I was still able to be of some small use to her earlier helping her make the 20 invitations for the teachers 'dîner d'Halloween effrayant' next week. (Bit of a change from her last very Catholic primarywhere anything even mildly Halloween related was banned!)

Toostressy Yay for finishing the report!! Hope you can profit from your child-free hours tomorrow!

Babblehag and Foxes glad to hear the young 'uns are on the mend!

Grey Impressive list there Star! Good luck with all the house-move decluttering and organisation! I know exactly what you mean about illness 'feeling" worse at night. [Um, am I allowed to mentioned that I recognised your name? But only because I played one of the three witches in the sixth form , no jokes about typecasting please Wink ]

Hope you were able to rest up a bit today Cag

Somewhat weary wing flaps to everyone else! Very much looking forward to dh returning tomorrow on the red eye ... .

Tomorrow's baby-step no 14 for Thurs 14th Oct is the one about using a calendar. I used to sneer at this one until I missed a couple of important dates last year.

Newcomers - here is the launch pad from which you can navigate the site:
www.flylady.net/c/lp.php .

We are in Zone 3 all this week (the main bathroom plus one extra room 9th-15th inclusive) here.

Either declutter for 15 minutes in this zone, or, if there is no clutter left, do some detailed cleaning.

The mission for Friday can be found here. Shine sink and counter tops in bathroom. For the 'other' room: reward yourself with a 15 min break and a Brew.

The daily focus for Friday is: decluttering purses/handbags/cars + date night.

The habit for October is getting rid of paper clutter,
here: www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/october/.
(Scroll down for detailed explanation.)

The daily flight plan here: www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-120 will update itself (hopefully) and if you click on it tomorrow will provide a quick summary of the above.

Wine and woolly fleece and pillows for Zoo when she checks in ...

Hope today went as well as these things can.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/10/2016 22:34

Aaargh didn't do any of the extra bits on my list and didn't look at paperwork or do a before bed routine. Ended up faffing on here for 45 mins instead and am annoyed with myself. Will hope for better things tomorrow! Night all.

fromwesttoeast · 14/10/2016 00:16

Thanks for your earlier message about where you used to be and where you are now, SC. It gives me hope. It's going to be a long work in progress here.

pontificationcentral · 14/10/2016 02:46

tech has broken TIO and I'm having jeffreygate flashbacks. It's unnerving when my mn account doesn't work properly - I'm having to try and remember what I've posted on and find it through talk search. Grr. I am randomly posting anywhere and then checking TIO but still gebrokken. Boo.
no flying today, but I am going to investigate the kitchen to see if we have got to the end of the turkey leftovers yet!!
Now that I have found you all again, I will have a read through!

mnistooaddictive · 14/10/2016 06:58

So Wednesday I did my 15 mins decluttering bathroom. Filled a carrier bad with unwanted products.

I also had to make huge amount of cakes as dd1 (9) had arranged to run a cake stall with her friends at school to raise money for brownies. I feel motivated that at least I did something!

Hopefully more stuff willbe done today.

celeste83 · 14/10/2016 08:11

Morning all,

Not managed to log on MN much last couple of days and i come back and find MN is playing up with all my subscribed threads all over the place and other little annoying site malfunctions Angry

I hope the funeral went as well as could Zoo

Fresh has gone quiet, maybe baby is on its way?

I hope all the poorly little ones get well soon.

I deep cleaned the kitchen on Wednesday and deep cleaned the bathrooms yesterday. Had another school visit yesterday and got another one this morning too. Other than that i want to hoover and dust round to get the house in order for the weekend.

Afreshstartplease · 14/10/2016 09:00

Baby is not on its way fresh is just feeling sorry for herself and rotting in her pig sty....

Strikingclock · 14/10/2016 16:52

Evening!

Bump is certainly keeping you in suspense Afreshstart hang in there Flowers

Celeste congrats re: deep cleaning

mnistooaddictive well done for achieving some decluttering in the midst of baking bonanza!

You'll get there fromwesttoeast I promise

Thinking of you Foxes

And if baby has arrived Furble hope all gone swimmingly!!

Thinking of you Zoo and family

If it makes you feel any better Toostressy I did zilch Flying today!

Going to keep this quick because my back is really hurting after six hours seated doing lots of office admin (only interrupted by having to call engineer for someone stuck in lift). Also managed to get to shops at lunch time to buy some trousers because the large trousers I bought last year no longer fit Blush. Having seen myself in the shop mirror (I honestly look like a hippotamus atm) I first went to the supermarket to buy lots of vegetables and not a lot else and then promptly signed up to Slimming World.

DD in a foul mood after school (her first report is back and she failed one exam) and dh ratty (trying to keep awake to get back in sync with GMT) so ... forget date night .... looks like it is going to be fun evening here at SC towers! And I can't even drown my sorrows in wine ...

However, wishing you all a good Friday evening with plenty of Wine and Chocolate!!

Links for tomorrow coming up ...

G'night all!

Hi all. Afresh hope things get moving for you soon. SC that does make me feel a little bit better I'm afraid! Flowers for your DD.

Busy day today.

Ta da:-
Sorted some holiday stuff
Did some preschool bits
New job forms filled in (the admin is ridiculous then I have online learning!)
Exercise
Stripped beds
Some laundry

To do:-
Playing with DC before bed
Bath time
Bit of bedtime
Somehow find time to pick up a princess dress costume from somebody
Get ready to go out (do I own any 'going out' clothes???!)
Go out for meal
Collapse
Forgot make beds before bedtime!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/10/2016 17:05

Aargh also need to do tea! Why do I take on so much stuff leading to unnecessary stress?! Tomorrow is busy too Hmm.

fromwesttoeast · 15/10/2016 00:01

Thank you SC! Long hours of working affecting me too at the moment - in my case my eye sight gets a little fuzzy.
DH had someone round to do some odd jobs today, fixing the shed door, replacing taps and seals on sink, broken window handle, wonky bath panel....Anyway, to change kitchen tap they emptied out the under sink cupboard and as all the stuff was on the kitchen floor when I got in from work at 9pm I thought I may as well clean the cupboard out. It was truly nasty in there. Fortunately a washing powder spill made scrubbing it out easier. Wasn't much in there to declutter.
Tomorrow is another day.

foxessocks · 15/10/2016 12:50

Now dh is poorly too and dd was sick again last night! I did manage to finish a bit more detailed cleaning of the bathroom yesterday but feel like I'll have to do it again because of the germs currently in this house. And the washing pile is getting ridiculous!

Ah well just got to get through the next few days and hopefully we'll all be feeling better.

Dd was meant to be spending the weekend with mil so we would just have the baby and have a little break so I'm feeling a bit fed up that now I've got to look after everyone instead!

I hope everyone else is having a better weekend than me?!

Strikingclock · 15/10/2016 13:51

Hello, I hope you will forgive me for posting tomorrow's links early but we are going out to meet friends for dog walk in countryside now and then we'll be eating out and back v late tonight.

Hope everyone ok!

Waves to Fencingwire and everyone else!
