I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

LTB is in order! Grin
He needs to buy you a new one to replace it and another as an apology. No excuses.

Buga

Do YOU like the hearts? If yes , then who cares if it's like 9 y old diary? It's for you. And for nobody else to criticise or judge.

And if you don't like it get some self adhesive address labels and cover them up. Won't be perfect, but that's fine too.
Smile

Bugaboom · 19/02/2016 21:22

No zing I don't like the heart! Not me at all- don't know what came over me! Great idea about the labels. Or some of that tape someone mention earlier in thread

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 19/02/2016 21:24

merciful

What is it with all these BuJo butchers??
These DHs need to go to BuJo bootcamp and have some respect drilled into them!

I have managed to successfully train my DH & sons to keep away from all of my Fiskars fabric scissors. It took a long time and lots of threatening, but now there's no more toe nail cutting with my thread scissors!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 19/02/2016 21:29

What colour is heart?

Maybe you could just glue a whole page sized piece of paper on that page. Maybe in a shade that won't show through what's underneath. You know that thickness that's thinner than card weight but thicker than a normal copy paper? That would work well.
That's the neatest solution I can think of.

Thank you for the sympathy...I do think unless you have experienced it you really don't appreciate fire damage. The scariest thing was actually my flatmates' rooms. Down a short corridor, apart from smoke damage the only thing out of place was the duvets were on the floor -where the firemen had been checking their beds for bodies...(they were out too - at the same party I was).

Sorry to derail more - but this is a massive coincidence. My dishwasher has just stalled at a minute -kept making a funny noise every 30 s or so -must have been like that for at least 30 mins. I opened it up to find I hadn't weighted down a big plastic bowl properly -it had flipped and filled with (dirty) water. Dishwasher was obviously confused trying to drain but didn't have any water to drain so just kept trying ..I do wonder what would have happened if it had been doing it overnight or if I had been out for hours ...would it have eventually overheated or something?

My first bujo shopping list

Ooh I like that meal planner idea. I need a new notebook. The one I re purposed is too big and heavy. I am meeting the outlaws in a naice town today so I may see if they have any naice shops wot sell stationery. If nothing else it will give me a break from FIL banging on about Europe!

lorelei9 · 20/02/2016 11:45

I hope it's all right to ask this question here as clearly there are a lot of stationery experts about....I managed to buy 2 lovely journals while away, but attractive concertina files don't seem to exist. I like a really arty design. Loads of companies do the flimsy paper files but I would like a sturdy concertina type, any ideas?

Kewcumber · 20/02/2016 12:29

It's interesting what you find when you start to use it cankle

  1. I need a lot less than I buy
  2. don't bother planning lunch (for me and DS has school lunches)
  3. keep a handful of big post it notes on you shopping list page then you can just take out when you're shopping. All the better if its a pretty patterned post it note which you were bought for Christmas a couple of years ago and never used.

Just in case you think my list is normally that tiny... I did an Aldi shop on Thursday, so this was just my top up list whilst DS was at football this morning.

There's a coffee shop at our local sainsbury so I sat down and had a coffee, planned meals for the week and wrote my list then shopped really quickly. Worked really well. I even tucked the money off coupons after my shop in the pocket at the back of Brian the Bujo and live in hope that when I sit down to plan my next shop I will be organised enough to get then out!

mercifulTehlu · 20/02/2016 14:00

I'm about to add a 'food shopping regulars ' list to my BuJo. I was sitting a minute ago making my weekly shopping list and suddenly thought I'd be much quicker and less likely to miss things out if I had a master list (you organised lot are probably thinking 'Duh! Of course - I have one of those already! '.

My leuchtturm notebook has arriiiiived!!

It's purple and beautiful and pristine, and I can't quite bring myself to sully its pages with my drunk-spider-fell-out-of-an-ink-pot handwriting. Yet. Also, I don't have an allocated pen; I want a pretty one, not just one of my army of useful but unworthy biros. Can't get one today as DH is looking after DD purely so that I can get some study done and not piss about on Pinterest getting ideas for how to prettify my BuJo and thus wouldn't take kindly to me swanning off to the shops for the afternoon...

nattyknitter · 20/02/2016 14:09

lorelei Try Wilkinsons. I got a plastic concertina file there. It's not as big as some of the card ones that you find, but it has enough sections for me to sort my entire life of bills and important documents into. There were lots of fun designs to choose from, but this was a few years ago.

I had to resort to taking a photo of my stationery drawer to look at every time I find myself looking at pens etc to remind myself that I don't need any more. But I wants all the penses and inkses my precioussss

BYOSnowman · 20/02/2016 14:22

Yes - mines called 'staples' Merci!!

Finished the first page of my index!

Mookbark · 20/02/2016 14:52

Just seen a BuJo on FB with a weight loss tracker. Lots of little squares which are coloured in with each pound lost. What a fab idea, definitely stealing it.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 20/02/2016 15:15

Ooh that sounds good. Can you screnshot it and post it here? I'm on slimming world and need motivation/tracker of some sort! :)

Mookbark · 20/02/2016 16:36

Oh, good idea. Here it is, hopefully.

natty - thanks. do you mean "wilkos"?

nattyknitter · 20/02/2016 17:43

Yes Lorelei, I forget they rebranded. Blush I had 6 years out of the country.

Don't forget to try ebay for pens etc too, you can often get them quite cheaply compared to the highstreet shops.

lorelei9 · 20/02/2016 17:48

natty, I didn't know them anyway so thanks for mentioning!

I bought 2 vair nice notebooks on holiday - they were not cheap - about £12 I think. But I didn't buy much else and I do love a good notebook and hadn't even liked much in Paperchase.

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 20/02/2016 18:24

I'm just crossing mistakes out in mine and writing normally. If i try to make it pretty, it will become too big a task. So i am jealous if all of your pretty books!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/02/2016 19:02

I was up last night till 4.30 am with feverish MiniZing (teething) and read and read about BuJo and tips and ideas and I still can't get behind my original stance of "why not just use a diary for all date bound tasks & events"?
I just don't get why writing down the same task/event in future log AND monthly plan AND in daily log 3 times is simpler? I can do it in a diary and no extra effort of having to set it up laboriously.
Plus I can not plan things from day to day. I need to write down all recurring weekly events/tasks ahead, so can't do it in daily log but equally can't do it monthly as one tiny line isn't enough for 5-10 things per day!
If I left a bigger space in monthly log or a page in daily log for each day I'm back to square one of essentially just creating a diary (so I might as well use a ready made one!)

Plus there's the fact that things and therefore priorities change all the time, events get moved and if I ran out of space in either future or monthly log I'd have to start and index a new page, but then those things are not "continuous" anymore to me, which I find impractical and frustrating.

How do you all get over these problems? I can't be the only one who have lots regular stuff that need jotting down ahead of time so I won't forget and doesn't like running out or wasting space.
I can't do without a pre-printed diary. It is essential for me for all date bound tasks and events.

What I find a stroke of genius is the INDEX.
It is just such a brilliant idea for all the non date/time bound tasks, ideas, compilations, mega list/s etc etc so my Mega List BuJo is built on the index and I find it immensely helpful already!
And I'm using it in my Craft BuJo, which is solely dedicated to log past projects and track current & future ones and ideas.

Which means right now I have 3 separate things for 3 different needs. I'm content with that. Smile

lorelei9 · 20/02/2016 19:11

Zing - I agree with you re the Index. Also, I'm only using this for work/creative stuff. I wouldn't use it for housekeeping or ordinary diary stuff.

but the index is good because i've reached a stage where I can't keep project ideas in an app or a spreadsheet and just need an index to keep track of what I am thinking through.

haven't actually done this yet btw - just back from holiday so will give it a bash.

I already write stuff on the next day's "to do" list if I haven't done it though.

AalyaSecura · 20/02/2016 19:16

I've been following the thread but only just posting now - I am the proud owner of an orange Leuchtturm 1917, and am now a week in. I had to get over the free flow nature of it, but am now loving the flexibility it gives to just capture whatever I need as I go along.

Zing, I have been doing a normal monthly page, but because I still track all the family activities on my Organised Mum calendar in the kitchen, I only use the bullet journal for calendar events that I need to do stuff for - those go in the bullet journal so that I can feed it into my to do lists. Events that will just happen just go on the calendar. Same as my work stuff, I have an outlook calendar at work that people book in, and I only put the diary events that trigger 'to do' items into my bullet journal. If that makes sense!

CoperCabana · 20/02/2016 19:24

So it works! I was at a slightly loose end between meetings at work yesterday, referred to my monthly task list and ticked off two! Today, was losing focus on the many balls I was juggling. Wrote them all down and have achieved loads!

Very very happy!
