I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

My new BuJo arrived today and I so love it and I am terrified of writing in it.

I added one length of washi tape (great stuff) to an index page, panicked and thought I would start transferring information from my mock Bu Jo in the morning.

Is everyone carrying their BuJo's outside the house !

My mock BuJo is too big to carry, so I just take a small list out with me. I could carry my new one, but worried about loss or damage.

Babieseverywhere · 18/02/2016 22:41

Oh, and my latest collection is 'Missing things' Things I need to look for, whch is DD1's school trainers and DD2 and DS's school water bottles in preparation for school next week.

BYOSnowman · 18/02/2016 23:05

Slightly off topic but I thought it was considered unsafe to leave the white goods running when out of the house? Or is that just my mum!!

Babieseverywhere · 18/02/2016 23:38

TBH If anything was to happen whilst we are ALL out of the house, that would be much better than if we all were in the house. I don't run them at night, just in case iyswim.

Finished my finances, helped with a cheeky glass of wine :)

unlucky83 · 19/02/2016 00:10

BYO yep you shouldn't do it ...www.theguardian.com/money/2014/jan/11/kitchen-flames-domestic-appliances
(the hotpoint tumble dryer recall should make you think if nothing else!)
As babies says definitely not overnight - I know family whose dishwasher went up in flames in the night (it had finished running it was fault with the indicator light) - they all got out alive but were left with just their nightwear...
But I don't (plan to at least) leave them running when I'm out either - especially not the tumble drier. Never underestimate the amount of damage a house fire causes.
My flat burned down when I was 21 ...luckily I was out (or I'd have died) but
I lost everything (I was wearing a hired ball dress ...so all I had was a pair high heeled shoes, knickers, tights and a clutch bag). Even insured it is a massive hassle because you have to replace EVERYTHING - furniture, etc but also clothes, duvets, pillows, bedding, towels, toiletries, plates, cups, pans etc etc...worse than a burglary because you are left with nothing (I had to borrow clothes from a friend to go and buy clothes the next day, I guess just like if you were in your nightwear)
In our flat the fire started in the wall between the kitchen and my bedroom (an electrical fault) so my room and the kitchen got actual flame and heat damage but the fire brigade putting out the fire soak everything with water and do things like rip up floors to make sure it is properly out.
But even things that aren't touched by flames get fire damaged - covered in a nasty stinking greasy black soot almost impossible to remove. Just the smell and the filth...I never want to face that again...

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 19/02/2016 03:53

BYO

You poor thing, what a horrible thing to endure. Flowers
And I'm so glad you were ok. Scary stuff.

I do have everything in on, all the time as I only read it here a couple of months ago that I shouldn't - but the tumble dryer was in a separate garage and my reasoning was the same, if we are all out at least we'd be safe.

But if we were at home in all honesty I don't know what I would do to stop an electrical fire (despite having had tons of safety courses at school!).
I guess I need to put it on my list of "things in case of emergency"
Probably better buy some of those red fire extinguishers - did you guys know there are several different ones, as different substances are needed for different fires? Obviously you can't use water on electric or oil based ones...this much I remember.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 19/02/2016 03:57

I meant unlucky not BYO , sorry about that.

ICJump · 19/02/2016 04:49

So I think it's pretty journal I'll go for after this one is done.

It's be raised a couple of times but we haven't talked much about it. Who runs two journals. I'm thinking of having a separate journal for a volunteer role I'm starting soon. For reporting I'll need my own stats on hours done, meetings attended, professional development, plus anonymous call info. It's unlikely to have daily logs in it. I feel like it should be separate but can see I might duplicate something.

So anyone a two or more BUJOer

Bugaboom · 19/02/2016 07:41

IC I'm a two BuJoer. One for work and one for home but I've only recently started (work one for 2 weeks and home one this week). I like keeping home and work separate and my notebooks aren't heavy so could carry two if needed. But so far I don't carry them both. If I think of something for my other journal I just make a note to add it. One journal sounds great but I think I'd either end up doing work at home or more likely procrastinating at work by adding home stuff

BeyondBootcampsAgain · 19/02/2016 08:40

Yep zing, you need foam to suffocate it. You can get multiple ones (and a blanket for chip pan fires), or they do have a multi-purpose one that is foam.

My book is here. It has perforated pages, which im kinda struggling with. Bugger.

Today we are sorting out tonnes of stuff (kids are away for a few days) then tomorrow we will do tip run/charity shop run/go and watch deadpool Grin

SoupDragon · 19/02/2016 08:51

If your second journal is likely to have less information, could you start it from the back of your main journal instead of having a separate book?

RainbowDashed · 19/02/2016 09:09

I have two. I started my work one in my existing work notebook, I was kind of doing a similar thing with dividers etc but I've found this method much easier to control. It's very basic, no embellishments at all. It stays at work all the time. My home one is in my pretty book and is much more fancy. It lives in my handbag so goes everywhere with me.

Iggi999 · 19/02/2016 09:26

I think I should index a page called "things I've learned from mumsnet" including useful fire fighting info, the Coke roast thing, and how to remove a baby vest downwards!

mercifulTehlu · 19/02/2016 10:08

Well I've had two days of not writing in my BuJo Shock. However, that's because I've had guests staying, so I haven't really got anything done except outings and cooking etc. I'm going to go back and fill in the two days though, because I want to have a record of where we went and what we did. Glad to see everyone seems to be getting on well with theirs! Shock at your fire, unlucky !

I've had my Bullet Journal a couple of weeks, I have both home and work in one journal as I find this easier but realised very quickly that I need to separate the tasks. I write out my home tasks the night before, leaving a few lines free for additions then add the work tasks below. It's working well for me so far. I need more space on my monthly planner though (have the original Bullet journal layout for February) so need to experiment with other layouts.

Thank you for this thread, I was doing elements of the Bullet Journal system before but in a much less organised way. I feel much more organised now! It is however feeding my stationery addiction as I have bought a Leuchtturm notebook and a number of pens....

BendydickCuminsnatch · 19/02/2016 12:14

The last few days of my BuJo look so drab! BUT I ordered some Staedtler triplus fineliners from Cultpens (I'm so easily led!) and they sent me a bonus pen FREE!!!! Grin how exciting. So hopefully my BuJo will get prettier.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 19/02/2016 15:00

I have solved my colour coding dilemma! Yay!

I bought some oh so beautiful metallic pencils (I'll post photo when they are here, for stationery porn satisfaction Grin) and will use these for colour-coding each member of the family.
And for school related stuff I will carry on using kids' school colours with ordinary pencils (red for DS1&DS2, blue for DS3&DS4, purple for DS5 and DD can have pink for playgroup).
I think that will work beautifully.

I also bought some metallic gold gel pens just because. I have a thing about shiny gold stuff atm. (I'm worried it will turn into a glitter phase [concerned])

And just had to buy this lovely A4 notebook from Paperchase just for my craft projects!
I have been keeping a record of every quilt, blanket, jewellery and all the sewn and crocheted items (whether kept or given as gifts) I have made since 2003 but the little book got damaged so it's time transfer everything into a nice new notebook!

I really need this separately from main BuJo, and for ideas and future projects I will do what you suggested Soupy and start from the back! Genius idea! Cheers for that! Cake

Right, time to get on with packing up downstairs - we are moving out on Sunday! Eek!

FairNotFair · 19/02/2016 18:08

I just caught myself looking at pen-loops on Amazon. I'm coming over to the dark side...

cookiefiend · 19/02/2016 19:07

I haven't used my Bujo for much this week except a note of what we have done, normally I thinknin a diary I would feel I had ruined it by missing a week, but the bujo is so flexible I can easily get back on track. Still haven't managed to find my coiled pens yet, but will try this weekend. It is great- glad I found you all!

I bought a dotted leuchtturm notebook in bright yellow. It is pristine. I haven't written in it yet. Dp grabbed it to write a phone number in while he was on the phone and I murdered him in the face Grin

What is washi tape for? Just to make it look pretty and stuff? I don't really have time to make mine look all pretty, otherwise I'd never get any actual work done. I do so love looking at the pretty ones on pinterest though!

OnePlanOnHouzz · 19/02/2016 20:20

Was in tesco earlier and heard a lady saying 'oooh I must buy a good Notebook ' wonder if she's read /is on this thread !!! Smile

mercifulTehlu · 19/02/2016 20:36

Eggsandketchup Shock Shock Shock ! I'm not surprised you murdered him in the face!
I'm having a dh problem as well - he appears to have nicked one of my new fineliners to do his bloody marking!

Argh. I've ruined my home one. I'm not artistic or creative but thought I'd have a go with a packet of coloured pens. Was writing things the DC are into and put a heart around the nursery rhymes dd likes. Looks ridiculous. I'm in my mid 30s and my BuJo looks like a 9 year old girls diary. Can I buy a new notebook and start again? Blush
