I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

Agreed, LEM, BuJo does sound wanky, but they only call it BuJo so they don't have to call it BJ... which sounds wanky in a whole other way Grin.

And yes, for your habit tracker you make a column for each habit (virtuous or unsavoury - your choice) alongside your calendar and put ticks in the columns on each day you manage to keep that habit.

Then reward yourself with a large gin... for having managed to drink a large gin for 31 days in a row. Bonus!

Thanks Bendy and IC for sharing your habit trackers!
Done mine now .😀

ICJump · 09/02/2016 20:52

My bad habit tracker would include
Telling people I'm studying while being on mn
Have a scoop of cream in my mouth rather than coffee cup
Re washing rather than hanging the load out
Going to bed without cleaning my teeth
Falling asleep in the couch

nelliestar · 09/02/2016 20:57

The start of my habit tracker! May put no nagging on there and thinking of what else to include Wink

My new notebook has arrived, but it is way, way too beautiful to use! I am going to hold off until tomorrow to get started, and get it all clear in my head! Might make notes in an unbeautiful notebook before I take the plunge!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 09/02/2016 21:27

Well, I had a £10 Waterstones voucher burning a hole in my purse, so I went in and used it for a Moleskine notebook this afternoon. My plan is to keep the book largely at home on the kitchen table and any info I want while out and about will be on my phone, I will also use it to take notes/photos of anything I want to put in when I get home.

So, the existing systems I have which I am keeping are:

Book for writing down basic but handy recipes.
Book for menu planning and shopping lists, as I tear them both out every week. It already has a master shopping list in the front and a freezer contents list in the back
Address book
Book with passwords, names of tradesmen, other essential odds and ends.
Yahoo calendar linked to that of DH on phones and computers
Regular reminders on phone (eg DCs to take PE kit, musical instruments to school on certain days)
Ad hoc time-critical reminders on phone (I use Siri for these)
Non supermarket shopping list
Taking photos of useful information on phone while out and about
Phone reading list for useful websites
Birthday lists in Yahoo calendar
Holiday/camping packing lists on computer
Journal of all aspects of my DCs SENs

Things that I will put in the new book:

Daily/weekly/longer term to do lists, subdivided into categories
Dates for things like MOTs, passports expiring
Project plans (allotment, OU course)
Holiday plans
Day out plans
Interesting things I have spotted on FB/MN etc
Books I want to read etc
Fitness tracking/planning
Ideas for Christmas etc

So, mine won't be fully comprehensive, but I think I can definitely find a place for it in amongst my existing systems.

I got my lovely empty clean book today. Been watching a few videos on how to set up. Had lovely diary last year but left it to late this year who buys a diary first week of January what was I thinking so can ditch nasty one and transfer across.

Mainly for household jobs
Meal plans
Budget
Craft projects

Not sure about daily lists as not got that much stuff to do. Maybe a page for a week? Quite hard to get started without feeling will mess it up.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 09/02/2016 21:39

That's how I'm feeling Akire - my fountain pen is poised, but I haven't made a mark yet.

mybrainhurtsalot · 09/02/2016 21:46

Loving this thread.

I was in my local M&S today and spotted a good selection of notebooks, including squared and dot paper options for £6 (A5 size). They also had those frixion erasable pens.

WhoisLucasHood · 09/02/2016 21:49

Akire, I'm the same, I don't have enough tasks per day so have a week to view then I have a week to complete them until I migrate tasks. I love the fully customisability of the journal, for example I work pt Wed-Fri so my week starts on a Weds, it's a revelation that this is why conventional diaries and calendars don't work well for me. I need to add quarterly and annual household tasks list.

mercifulTehlu · 09/02/2016 21:56

Those of you who have the Frixion pens, are they the highlighters or the rollerballs?
And, sorry, this has probably been asked before, but what other coloured pens would people recommend, for general embellishment, prettifying and writing purposes? Did someone mention Staedtler?

OP posts:
mercifulTehlu · 09/02/2016 22:00

Ok - scratch that question! I've just ordered a set of Staedtler fineliners.

OP posts:
Akire · 09/02/2016 22:07

Ok so I'm making a list of my lists! The peak geek pass time.

So on bits of paper and my phone I have :
Blog posts want to do

Presents I buy as see bargain then buy more Because can't remember what I have.

Craft project plans

Wool mountain list

Shopping lists

need to add:
List of spices instead of not being assed to check when trying a re iOS and doing online shop.

Toiltires and cleaning projects I don't need to buy. Currently about 5 deodorants in bathroom etc

There feel better about getting stuck in to move bonfide lists them can mess it up later'

OrangeSunset · 09/02/2016 22:08

I've got the Staedtler fineliners. They're great for colouring and embellishments, but I need to find another black pen for the bulk of the writing. I've been using the fineliner since the weekend and it's already wearing down on oneside.

Any recommendations of a black pen that has a similar effect but a more durable nib (and won't bleed through Leichttrum paper). Ooh, get me with my posh BuJo kit. Hmm

nattyknitter · 09/02/2016 22:17

I have all of the different Frixion pens and most colours. I used to live in France where they were cheaper. I prefer the 0.7 to the 0.5 and I like the clickable versions better than the lidded ones.

I have one of the highlighters but you can't use it with the rollerballs as you end up rubbing everything out.

If you ever end up erasing anything that you need back then shove the book in the freezer and it reappears. If your book gets hot them your writing disappears. Don't put a hot plate or cup on a page of writing!!

Uniball also have a similar pen called a Phantom that does the same thing. I don't know how they compare for quality. The thing I like about the Frixions is that they are refillable, so I tend to just get those now. I did have some cheap French supermarkets own version but I didn't rate them.

I was in Asda the other day and saw a set of Inkjoy pens that had about 20 different colours in a pack for a fiver. I thought that was really good value. I put them down though as I have far too many pens as it is.

I still have to work my way through the fountain pen fetish I went through in France where ink cartridges come in dozens of colours and are dirt cheap.

I love my Stabilo Point 88s, but I would imagine they would bleed through cheap paper.

I would probably trawl through the supermarkets and places like Wilkos for packs of multi-coloured biros/ gel pens and see what they have on offer and try a few out.

I am not allowed into proper stationery shops any more. It's just oo dangerous.

nattyknitter · 09/02/2016 22:23

And now I'm on www.cultpens.com

I really have to stop speaking to you people. Look what you have done!!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 09/02/2016 22:31

My DCs both got a set of Staedtler fineliners for Christmas, they are indeed lovely. I am doing my entire OU course with a fountain pen (apart from assignments on the computer), which makes the whole thing feel less of a chore somehow.

cookiefiend · 09/02/2016 22:41

Thanks for this thread- I have been lurking. I used to be super organised with lists and tasks at work- people used to comment. At home I am so disorganised? Though I did have an a5 notebook with loads of my lists in it, but no index and randomly dotted through it so I often couldn't find things.

On maternity leave this time I have felt SOOO disorganised to the point DH is worried I am depressed. Ignoring important things like my professional registration and car inaurance etc until the last second. So After reading this thread I have decided to organise myself better at Home. I bought myself one of those posh 1917 German notebook things which arrived on Sunday with some of my favourite black biros and in have leapt into it. So far so good. I have not yet worried about making it look pretty but have motivated myself to do two tasks so far whixh I have put off for ages. I am enjoying seeing all your ideas.

bloodyteenagers · 09/02/2016 22:43

For those still looking for books pens and anything else.
Rymans have a 3 for 2 sale on

RainbowDashed · 10/02/2016 10:55

So this morning I took ownership of a beautiful purple leuchtterm (sp?) notebook, with dots. I luffs it I do. It came complete with a pen loop and a lovely posh ball pen that extends (oh the excitement). I then had to put it down and go to work but it will be waiting for me when I get home in all its slightly sparkly glory. I almost don't want to sully it, it's so pristeen and smells so papery and lush

whoreandpeace · 10/02/2016 11:00

I'm so in love with my BuJo! Lovely to have my life on track ... properly on track. Last night was Parents' Evening and I wrote down all the comments on a page in my BuJo and have it there to refer back to now for next time. Utterly fab.

Meanwhile, despite having started mine 4 days ago (already on page 40) I have ordered a Leuchtturm1917 (purple dotted - yum) from a company recommended on the FB page www.firststopstationers.co.uk. Including p&p it was £12.71. Saves giving more money to the non-tax-paying Amazon.
I'm itching to get started on it. Need to think of more lists and 'to dos'.

whoreandpeace · 10/02/2016 11:01

Cross post RainbowDashed - purple dotted - simply divine!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/02/2016 11:34

ALREADY ON PAGE 40!!!!!! whore wow!

Rainbow how is the paper please? Nice and thick, any bleed through? Or have you not tried it yet? Extendable pen sounds incred.

LovelyFriend · 10/02/2016 11:49

This thread made me buy a fountain pen.

Grin
MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 10/02/2016 11:56

I bought a fountain pen too, but my writing doesn't look as nice as with a biro Sad.
