January Fledglings - Resolve to Fly!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2015 18:22

So, here we are at the start of 2016, poised with our control journals and ready to Fly for another year. New and old, all are welcome here, we loosely follow the principles of Flylady to manage our homes and lives, we also chat and lend an ear to whatever life throws at us.

We post links to the Flylady site each day throughout the month, with daily babysteps and missions inside that weeks zone. We also declutter. No links in this post, I'm on my phone and will do some separately, but it's time to get ready for 2016. A big thank you to everyone who has run the thread in 2015 and everyone who has contributed Wine.

Just catching up with the thread, feel guilty showing off about my lie in now! Blush Sorry. Often up til 2 or 3 so last night was very good by comparison.

Loving the image of a quadcopter getting tangled up in Christmas decorations!

Right. Really need to get my butt off the sofa and stick a wash on, and a gazillion other things.

PositiveAttitude · 03/01/2016 14:13

I'm with you on Anderson WhoKnows. Did you see him last night? He was Goooooooodddd!!! Brilliant 9 darter! really dislike Lewis and always have done. Even Barney is growing on me in my old age! Grin

Einstein Unless superwoman is a massive lard arse who has just spent nearly 2 weeks only moving from the sofa on a Absolutely-need-to basis, then I think your view of me is rather screwed!

Just off to visit mum and tackle Aldi. I am going to see if I can warn the nursing home staff that dad is on the war path and he intends to corner the manager in the morning to demand what on earth they are doing to make my mum better and get her home as quickly as possible - apparently he is upset that they are not putting any cure plans in place. We have tried to explain that there is no cure for Alzheimers, but apparently we "know nothing" and "Dont understand a thing". No, I trained as a nurse and just do not understand that nothing these days is not curable!!! Dad's theory is that if you shout loud enough you get what you want and if you shout at mum loud enough she will snap out of Alzheimers and be well again - oh and the effects of a stroke will be cured, too!!! My dad is impossible!!!!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 03/01/2016 14:28

PA Didn't see all of it last night, just the last couple of sets and a replay of the 9-darter, he looked supremely confident.

OP posts:
fuzzpig · 03/01/2016 14:41

PA that sounds really stressful and horribly frustrating. If it helps, though, I expect the staff are well used to hearing these things from people who just want their loved ones to be better. Thanks

Greymalkin · 03/01/2016 15:19

PA - that does sound stressful for you all, upsetting for your dad that he just wants his wife back and sad for you to be able to see what he can't :(

Georgeofthejungle · 03/01/2016 16:45

Today I had high hopes for getting the house in order. I have a pile of washing that would scare you and chaos in almost every room.
I managed to take down the Christmas decs and tree and pack them away neatly - just need my OH to put the box away for me (it's heavy). I made a healthy late lunch for us both and now I'm having a lie down. Tomorrow will have to be better - I'm about to go insane with the messiness. Does anyone else get that way? let it build for so long and then can't take anymore and crack up?!

I should mention I'm 33 weeks pregnant so kind of have an excuse... Hmm

fuzzpig · 03/01/2016 17:29

TBH my house is chaos all year round! I am sitting on the bed having spent ages sorting all the clean laundry that's been piling up. I can barely see the floor of our bedroom it's that bad, just clutter and mess... argh! So I'm kind of immune to it in that it's constantly like this, but yes I do crack up too IYSWIM.

MercuryRising · 03/01/2016 20:06

George I think that is a very valid excuse.

With the exception of cleaning the bathroom and colouring my hair I have completed my to do list. Dp is just putting the dc to bed after that I am planning on having a bath, going to bed and reading and getting an early night. I have no idea how I will get myself out of bed when my alarm goes off at 6.15 in the morning. I haven't been up earlier than about 8.30 for the last two weeks. I hope everyones return to normality isn't too traumatic.

fuzzpig · 03/01/2016 20:58

Huge amount of laundry sorted today. I wish that wasn't such a massive achievement - of course it wouldn't be if I'd actually kept up with it in the first place! Blush

We've done our new Sunday ritual of going through the weekly planner for the forthcoming week. I'm finding that's been helpful especially for DD who needs to know what's happening, as she gets anxious if it goes differently to how she expects.

Didn't do the kitchen inventory today though. DH busy ironing now.

Off to turn on the tumble dryer and stick another wash on, probably won't be able to hang it out til the morning.

We are starting 'term' tomorrow. DCs actually didn't groan when I told them that, so I'm taking that as a win! :o Not sure if the reality will be the same tomorrow though...

Allgunsblazing · 03/01/2016 21:10

Didn't do much today :)
Does anybody know what we're doing tomorrow?

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 03/01/2016 21:12

kitchen this week. Back in a bit when the darts ends.

NickNacks · 03/01/2016 21:19

I have the Sunday night dread feeling in my stomach Sad
DH is feeling the same Sad

I have also got to the bottom of my laundry basket. Smile

fuzzpig good luck with your first day of term. My DC are all back to school on Tuesday and I hope it will go as smoothly as you do with yours.

My day started off a little odd. A friend posted an odd status on Facebook. A little bit of digging and putting 2+2 together and I found out she was having a crisis. I shoved on some clothes, scrapped back my hair and spent the morning helping her out. I'm tired though, emotionally it was tough. I felt like I was sorting out one of my children Sad

Have sort comfort in the biscuit barrel and wonder why the hell I'm so bloody fat Blush

Honu · 03/01/2016 21:37

Waiting with trepidation for the next cure task. This may all be a bit much!

Drawer waxing was actually done with beeswax but I think candlewax would be as good.

Teaching tomorrow. Trying to raise some enthusiasm!

Georgeofthejungle · 03/01/2016 22:01

Well I felt a little more refreshed after my lie down / mini nap and decided to put some of my nesting wants to good use in the kitchen. It's lovely and tidy now. Even put the floor rug by the back door in the wash as it has turned from blue to a funny shade of brown/grey.

Tomorrow I am planning on getting to grips with the bedroom. Similar to you fuzzpig washing and what can only be described as chap has taken over the floor! Also I need to change the bedding as the Christmas stuff we have on is somewhat out of date now.

Georgeofthejungle · 03/01/2016 22:16

Crap* on the floor. Not sure how my OH would feel about a chap down there Grin

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 03/01/2016 22:30

Hmm, Nick by contrast I'm quite looking forward to getting back to work tomorrow, DH and I have both been off since before Christmas (in my case since the 16th Dec). However it's going to be a busy week, all usual stuff plus car service and MOT, DD having her dyslexia assessment and it's her birthday party next weekend. I'm glad you were able to help your friend. I'm also suffering with excess waistline clutter Blush

Anyway I survived today without falling asleep anywhere (basically by keeping moving, unpacking and putting away new Christmas stuff). I also meal planned and did the big shop. That is my NY resolution (again), I am crap at menu planning and sensible shopping. I have an entire family of fussy eaters, a really hectic evening schedule during the week and drive past several supermarkets on the way home from work, I have fallen into the winging it and buying bits all week trap over the last few months. It was lovely having a proper list to work from today.

Darts was exciting and the right result IMO, hope you managed to watch it PA.

So, tomorrow we start in the kitchen. Links here.

Sneak peek - Monday's mission is to scrub those countertops.

Hello ladies. It has been a goodly number of years since I fell of the fly wagon
Was here as bythepowerofgreyskull eons ago.
I am getting back into the workplace and I need to get into a routine again.
May I rejoin the fly community?

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 03/01/2016 23:55

Welcome back GreySkull No idea what name I was wearing when you were here, but I do remember you. It is nice to see you

fuzzpig · 04/01/2016 00:32

Can't sleep, my own fault as I took my tablets too late. Hmm Laundry's finished so I'm going to sort through the drying and hang out the wet non-tumble stuff. Less to do tomorrow. Today I mean. FFS.

GREY hello I remember you! Are you excited about the new job?

Thinking about what needs doing tomorrow. We are doing a few home ed bits hopefully. DCs need to put all their clothes away and I'd like to try and get the last bits of ours done too (mostly bedding which can go, erm, somewhere). Some kind of frozen sauce is out of the freezer for pasta tomorrow, actually I'll get something else out now for DH (he can't have pasta as he's coeliac)... really regretting not labelling the bags... Hoping that DH and I will have the chance to go through all food in the afternoon. Not sure when we're next doing a proper grocery order.

ta da
lots of washing
put DVDs away
read to DCs (new year's resolution to do this every day as we'd really slipped)
put loads of clothes away
sorted out piano lessons
planned the week (mostly)
remembered to take stuff in and out of freezer

fuzzpig · 04/01/2016 00:37

Oh and I forgot the other things I needed to do (which were the things I meant to write on my list in the first place) - book an exhibition, find various appointment letters which may involve phoning people (one place hasn't actually sent me a letter as they said they would) and organising childcare ... also register myself as self employed, fill in a form for work... oh and somehow find the time to start the editing job I've been given.

If I'm to have any hope in hell of doing any of that, I should really go to bed now. But first I'm going to sort laundry and eat ice cream Blush

Lisawantsacat · 04/01/2016 00:42

Eeek, so today's list didn't go quite as planned. Had lunch with the ILs and finished a massive work project, so productive in ways, but not much flying got done

Put away the dry laundry Done
Hang out the wet laundry* Done*
Put away the majority of the Xmas decs* Didn't even start*
Do a school uniform audit, check what needs buying tomorrow* Nope, nor this one*
Make some selections on Simply Cook, so I stop receiving recipes we really don't like* Done (after a lush Malay Laksa from the recent selection)*
Do some Beaver admin (need to transfer my biggies to Cubs and send welcome info to new littleys)* Did a bit, opened up a big old debate with the other leaders, can of worms kept getting bigger with each email, gave up*
**
So I guess I'll carry some of those over to tomorrow's list.

Thanks for the book recommendation AllGuns, looks like a good one to try.
