Decluttering accountability buddies?

2016 is the year I'm going to get my stuff sorted out properly - but I might need you to help keep on track!

I have a minor shopping addiction, which hinges mostly on books and indie make up/perfume, but does include lots of other things - we moved house six months ago and after a big declutter then, it's starting to get silly again.

I'd like to stop bringing so much stuff into the house, and get rid of at least five items per day until I feel like the house is no longer bursting at the seams!

So, anyone up for keeping me accountable and getting some support with decluttering in return? Maybe we should start with a January no buy? :)

My sister said she takes photos of them. Quite a good idea. She has way more clutter than me! I have some stuff to take haven't got around to it yet.

Yes we talked about taking photos on my CBT call today - dang the clock has gone now so too late for a photo - oops!

I'm doing before and after photos too. Plus photos of the clothes i have brought for my Dd to grow into.

She is my only girl after three boys, I got way to carried away! I might try to make a quilt for her and just buy some nice materail rather than mountains of clothes for her. We are trying to make her room up ( if we ever convert the dining room full of clutter!)

A few really lovely things rather than mountains of stuff.

I felt regret about parting with the clock but it's a turning pint I hope as it was broken and in used for years dispite any sentamental value. I need to get my head round that no broken thing is worth filling my life up with. It's a work in progress

You have your memories of it though. Yes I agree with the broken things. Hard to get rid of yourself yet if someone else was talking about a broken item you would probably tell them to get rid of it. No sentimental value.
I haven't done what I planned I haven't done much at all as been very tired. I think I am probably still recovering from chest infection as it started to come back.i have sorted through some paperwork and binned most of it but I was hoping to get more done. Feeling a bit better and cough has receded so maybe I was just meant to rest. Going to do something in craft room today. Made a lampshade the other day (so can bin the box now )and it fits perfectly on a lamp base I didn't want to get rid of because it is a beautiful pottery one. It has been in box for a while. It looks so lovely now so although not de cluttered it has a purpose again so sort of counts as one item now. :) clutches at straws!
Glad the CBT is helping. Yes, a challenge but it would be such a brilliant end result.
Don't you wonder about those programmes like DIY SoS where they throw out all the persons furniture etc in the skip. I would go mental. It annoys me that the chuck it in a skip. Give it to a charity to give to someone. All this bags and boxes for recycling and then they chuck and break good pieces of furniture. Watched one the other day and the women had a 70's style unit covered in sentimental knick knacks and lots of lovely photos of family. Had a lovely rectangular table because lots of family came for meals. They put a smaller, oval table in and not a photo in sight! It looked so impersonal like a show house but none of her personality was there. Don't watch it often but it made me cross to think they wasted that lovely table when some family would love it. Wasn't in skip so maybe she took it back. It was much nicer than the one they put in. Rant over :)

Agree I'm trying to recycle everything I can. They have two crate at the tip for reuse. I put things in there and someone else can decide if it still has value.

Got some lovely feedback on a few of my eBay things that made me really happy some nice things are finally getting use.

Threw up 74 odd socks last night! Dh helped as was very ruthless. Bagged up a few newer looking ones and lables them with the date. If their friends don't turn up with a set date they are going. Socks is a issue with six people!

CBT is saying one area, short bursts often. It's working. It's also helped to throw out some big items. Feel more positive today. Writing down as I throw out is really helping

Sorry I lost the thread. Wow you are doing really well. I came to a stand still after going back to work but have managed the odd few things last week. Took a big frame to leave at craft workshop only to be told they didn't want me to leave it :( however one of the ladies took it:) Have used up some small candles and washed all the glass containers so they can go to charity shop. Going to do the garden soon. I have lots of plastic pots. Painted more drawers and all ready to put crafty bits in now. Bought a set of drawers for £10 in Sainburys to put the rest of bathroom clutter in. I have been using up shower gel, body lotion etc one at a time so I can throw out the bottles yeah! I'm going to paint the drawers this week and put all the sorted small tubes etc in there out of the way and tidy. House isn't very tidy now I'm back at work. I will blitz it at Easter. Hopefully DD will come home for a few days so I can get her to de clutter her room. How are you?

Ditsy4 · 14/03/2016 07:12

Socks!
Oh I remember it well. Not so much of a problem now.

Ditsy4 · 22/03/2016 23:09

Term hols coming up so lots to de clutter again. Bathroom stuff in new drawers is great. Can't see some and keeping 1/2 bottles on top plus in shower so getting through them then off to the bin they go. Just hope DP doesn't go buying ever more.
First room in hols is the bedroom again.the hangers work a treat. So easy to find and put back. Going to get a metal pole though. Hope I can pack up some winter clothes. How is it going two boys?
