Morning

It's December. Are you ready for this?
festive cleaning, decluttering and then the required throwing about of sparkly stuff in the name of the holidays? No? Yeah neither are the rest of us. But let's do this.

So we sorta follow the Fat fairy and her fly lady system. We have adapted to suit lifestyles and sometimes roll our eyes at the fluffiness of the website but we do:
1. 15mins decluttering
2. Missions and Zones
3. have a naughty corner bar but someone else can decorate it this year

All the links can be found from the launch pad

But as it is the 1st of December It is babystep 1. This one looks easy. Shine your sink.

missions are here

The zone is zone 1 which is the porch, dining room and hallway. 15minutes folks, 15 minutes. get that decluttering done.

Tuesday is planning day

And just for the crazy people Christmas missions are here

the 1st Christmas mission

Oh yeah, the disclaimers:
long running thread, regulars been here years so can seem clicky, we're not. Newbies are always welcome we just as you to be respectful

laurenamium · 17/12/2015 07:50

Morning!

To do:
Horses muck out *5
Ride *2
Floors
Laundry
Food shop
DD and mindee to Christmas party
Wrap presents

Be back later!

SearedChestnut · 17/12/2015 10:24

Morning all!

I still haven't got the Christmas "zing". (Just the pre-Christmas "slog" atm!)

Has anyone else got the "zing"? If so, pls say, because it might be catching! Very elusive here atm ... .

[Disclaimer: Depressing vent follows] [Feel free to ignore]

I can't use the wm without the electricity going out. Mt Washmore stacking up daily. At this rate we will be celebrating Christmas in swimwear. (Or we would if central heating wasn't on the blink too.)

Should have ruddy well followed Flylady's suggestion and prepped my guest linen a ruddy month ago Blush as will have to slog to laundrette now.

Achieved no Flying yesterday but did do two lots of volunteering, home to collect dd and dog, ballet run, visited pet shop and pharmacy, did half theatre run and managed to miss opthalmologist's appt that I had been waiting for for ages (the appt had been moved and I forgot and will still have to pay). Bum. At least dh was in the office (30 paces from home) which meant dd was ok to be left at home for small parts of day (although I don't think one fruit or veg passed her lips judging from the things I left her to eat, and the things she actually ate.)

Probably not much Flying will be done today either although god knows the house needs it. Lots of social events happening in office today and tomorrow (entertaining of clients) which I am only involved in behind the scenes thank heavens but still loads to do; plus going to school for meetings with teachers.

And still don't bloody well know who precisely is turning up for Christmas (although I do know the movements of some thank heavens) and who isn't and if they are, when they are coming. I'm trying to be understanding about it because everyone has good reasons for not being sure but in underneath I feel a bit miffed tbh because it will change the nature of what we do and when ifyswim and how many beds we need to move around.

Things between dh and me still rather tense. He just doesn't "get" how the condition of this house gets me down and how hopeless I feel about it all. And he doesn't care who turns up or when and thinks I am making a huge meal of it (which I probably am to be fair).

Plus have gynae probs atm which are getting me down too

Sorry - all of above prob very trivial compared to what everyone else has going on - but thanks for allowing me to vent! (As usual!)

Must try to include one positive thing: dd went on a theatre trip last night with her school and absolutely loved it! Smile

Wish I could help you with the horses Lauren! (Probably showing my age but I'm a dab hand with the Neat's foot oil Wink)

Hoovering stairs is the bane of my life (we have so many of them). Ours get done (plus landings) once a week but could really do with more. Thinking of investing in one of those "back pack" hoovers or a cordless one specifically for that job.

Sorry to hear you have been in so much pain Figgyfuzz Sad

Blue perhaps the friends of your ds1 are in a church choir or some such/or scouts maybe? I agree with you about the launch btw, I had my heart in my mouth with all of the nation's dc watching (and Tim Peake's own dc) just praying it didn't go wrong. Particularly when I learnt that two previous supply rockets had exploded only relatively recently.

Arf at Whittering heights Can't. Hope you are surviving the ongoing building works and ta for links!

You sound frantically busy as ever Whoknows. That is very Sad indeed about your aunt. Thanks Safe travelling. And hope the funeral provides some comfort for you and your family x

Big wing flaps to everyone else!

BlueEyeshadow · 17/12/2015 17:19

Sending you zing, along with Brew SC Xmas Smile Am feeling slightly more festive, having made Mary Berry's brandy ice cream so that at least one thing is done in advance!

It was definitely a school thing yesterday - lots of teachers I know, some of DS1's old class, and some of the year above him all walking 2 by 2, while wearing high-vis jackets... I thought perhaps they were off to sing carols in the nearby supermarket, although a Muslim boy who doesn't join in any Christmas activities was there too, so perhaps not. It just felt a bit weird seeing them and knowing that DS1 was miles away doing other stuff in his new school, is all I meant by " a bit odd".

SearedChestnut · 17/12/2015 18:05

Thank you Blue just caught a bit of zing over here I think!! Grin

[And sending off last of parcels earlier this afternoon has helped! Phew!]

Sitting room still a sea of bubble wrap and tissue paper though!

Also managed to spot whopping typo in on-line office Christmas card that is on our website home page and was just about to be sent out to a zillion business contacts - so have justified my existence for another year Grin Might even get an extra bowl of gruel for dinner you never know Wink

Another bit of good news: dh has bought us a very cheapo wm to "cover" while the other one is being fixed (we were intending to get a second one anyway because of the going up and down stairs issue - which sounds pathetic -but our house is really one long staircase and the old machine has ridiculously delicately sensitive spin prog that never ruddy well works so up and down to check if washing has spun, it hasn't so set it off, up and down to empty and re-fill but find it hasn't spun again and repeat repeat ad infinitum etc etc). So we may have clean underwear for Christmas after all Grin

Also managed to buy red crepe paper to go under the tree!

Blue Mary Berry's brandy ice cream sounds good! Do you mind me asking which book it is in? (I have lots of hers - but not a specific Christmas one.)

Oh I see what you mean about seeing all the dc in your dss former school! [Sorry - duh!] That must have been strange indeed! Felt the same this week dropping dd off at her old 'primaire' for a visit: a mix of old and new faces - very odd to be back!

Have just finished preparing (with dd as sous chef) a load of mini sort-of-beef-wellingtons (beef wrapped in pancake with horseradish) and some Thai crab cakes with some mini flat breads and red pepper dip things for veggies for office drinks do. (I am pretending to be the caterer and just dropping things off in my apron and then scarpering thank heavens.)

SearedChestnut · 17/12/2015 18:12

Another positive thing: French teacher said dd was not as behind as we thought (fellow pupils in her class spk French at home are therefore exposed to more adult vocab) but that it is dd's formal writing (not verbal skills) that are behind.

Which means she has to read and read and read some more in French ... v. pleased because that is something I can really help with!

Meeting with maths teacher tomorrow though ...

Hand-held Dyson was bought for stairs and car and is excellent for both.

SearedChestnut · 17/12/2015 22:49

Grin Honu!!

Ta for links Can't

I will be doing the Christmas mission for most of the night I think! (ie finishing the wrapping!)

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 17/12/2015 23:07

Hi Honu! Yes to the handheld Dyson, we've got one that converts to the full length cordless version and it is a dream to use, best Flying tool ever, especially since we got the cats, I use it on soft furnishings (including curtains as the cats goon the windowsill a lot), stairs, car, in fact we no longer have a corded vacuum.

SC - I'm not surprised you are feeling a bit tense with so much going on and non-finalised plans, glad to hear about the new WM though.

Busy but relaxing day today at home with DS, cooking, baking, writing cards, wrapping presents, posting parcels and steam cleaning. Did the whole cooker (including ovens), floor, dishwasher and freezer door seals. Then spent a nice half hour chatting and playing with DD while she was in the bath tonight, which was nice as she tends to just get on with it by herself nowadays.

BlueEyeshadow · 17/12/2015 23:20

Good to hear you're feeling a bit better SC. Recipe is this one - I added lemon zest and vanilla to make it a bit more brandy butter-ish.

We have also got the tree, lights and various bits and bobs up this evening. Boys can do the baubles after school tomorrow. (And then DH can rearrange them... Xmas Grin )

CantSee4Looking · 17/12/2015 23:29

Can't wrap what you haven't finished making Blush

OP posts:
SearedChestnut · 17/12/2015 23:37

Thanks very much Blue - I like the sound of your additions!
And well done on getting the tree and lights up!

I haven't started the decorations yet - need to deep clean first - hoping to start Sun morning!

Waves to Whoknows [makes notes about cordless Dyson]. Good you were able to stay put at home for a bit today! And congrats on all the steam cleaning!

Wavering a bit about pulling an all-nighter as feel tired now. But bit difficult to sleep atm because all the helicopters from the summit are flying over the house, so might as well carry on!

6 am start tomorrow because dd back in school for all of 1.5 hrs ... and we have teachers' meeting.

Handyman, cleaner, window cleaner (and hopefully new washing machine) all pitching up in the morning too!

And yet another office cocktail party in the evening to prep for [groan]

G'night all!

SearedChestnut · 18/12/2015 06:36

Good morning all!

Had 2 hrs of dozing rather than sleep in the end. Tried to sleep more but brain was too wired with everything that needs doing today.

Had better get down to it!

Good luck with your frantic Friday everyone!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 18/12/2015 07:14

You too SC. I have a busy one planned. School run, coffee with friends, errand in next town, dentist with DS, school run, dentist with DD, DS to be despatched with friends to Scouts party, then my works Christmas party. Phew.

Last couple of days have been ok. Christmas tree is up and decorated thanks to DH/DCs! Presents are a bit more organised and there's basically no more to get for anyone which is nice. And today I've managed some laundry, hurrah.

CantSee4Looking · 19/12/2015 10:01

Right it is Saturday and thus Family fun day

Something I have noticed this time of doing the links is that the Fat Fairy seems to have got more wishy washy in her babysteps and tweaking. More twee and simplistic. It is quite annoying all of the didn't you do great stuff. Does she think I am 5 and need patting on the head and congratulated every 5 mins Confused Xmas Confused Also has she been taking tips from Gillian with the phone/email it in nonsense? Hmm What is the point of this? Is it suppose to motivate or annoy? anyone else noticed this?

And on that note here are the linkies:

Right flying wise: Need to do the rather long to do list from last night as decided to crack on with that other sock, well it is a christmas present. Sadly as tension is very different I now have to unpick the first one to sort out the different sizing issue. But I am very pleased with the results so far. I might be less pleased once I have unpick, reknitted and I still have two different sizes.

Time to get moving. Up and at them...

OP posts:
SearedChestnut · 19/12/2015 11:26

Yargh! Squeak! [Wiffle!] Squeak (again)!

... that was me... jumping up and down with excitement ... Christmas tree being delivered today!

Definitely have the Christmas "zing" now!

Sitting room still a foot deep in bubble wrap and wrapping paper (yes, still) but mess getting smaller and smaller as presents go out. Decorations proper go up tomorrow.

Great hilarity and banter this morning from dh and dd who helped me unpack my Xpats supermarket order from UK (three cartons of HP sauce, horseradish sauce, Colmans mustard, J-cloths, Lea and Perrins, Carrs table water biscuits etc etc).

I thought I'd ordered four jars of Marmite but it turns out there are 12 jars in each pack ... Blush Blush Blush We now have Marmite overload... .

I reckon Flylady is probably on the sloe gin at this time of year Can't Grin

Love the idea of your "office" do Blue! Hope you had a good 'un! Grin

Well done to your dc getting the tree up Fuzz and for having all presents sorted!

Dh and dd are now hoovering downstairs Shock making a corner of the room ready for the tree, with red crepe paper and everything! On their own initiative!! Shock

Hope you survived your frantic Friday Whoknows

Thanks for asking Can't mine went ok but nearly killed me. To school at crack of sparrows for dd to collect report! She passed her maths exam!!! Shock Smile [yay!] but failed Latin She was ecstatically happy about the maths and French though as she was really behind from being off ill!

Then back home to welcome window cleaner, handy man and his mate, and regular cleaner and lots of general comings and goings and faffing with parking tokens and heaven knows what. Must have gone up and downstairs 100 times! New washing machine duly installed alongside the other one (until that can be fixed - dh can't find guarantee). Then back to school with dd for school meeting with maths teacher who was indeed very helpful (please note Honu Grin!!) and says dd needs to ask for help a lot more than she is doing currently!

Back home to take dog out for long energetic walk to tire him out.

Then started prepping mini-canapes for office (we will be using caterers next year I think!!). Guest numbers aren't huge so do-able and not too onerous but it is everything else that needs doing at this time of year that makes it a bit difficult. Do enjoy it though! Anyway, smoked salmon blinis, roquefort cream (to put up celery sticks and on tiny pieces of chicon, + mini-posh-sausage roll type things duly prepped and delivered.

Back to cook dd haddock and chips and peas for dd and then more wrapping. Fell in to bed at 10pm and had the best night's sleep ever!

Even more positive news: new wm is working well and we now have clean pants for Christmas Grin!! What a relief!

Blue I am heading off in to the garden any second now to haul in some "houx"! "Le gui" will be arriving with the tree!!

Have a good day one and all!

And good luck with the stocking knitting *Can't"!

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 19/12/2015 11:30

At last, all clubs etc finished for Christmas break. DD had her last private dance lesson this morning, and she's ready to go into the group in January as she's learnt so fast

Present deliveries almost all arrived too. House is a mess but what's new...

CantSee4Looking · 19/12/2015 11:32

I'd have said that too SC but the fat fairy has changed the babysteps which are supposed to be normal every day kinda thing. If it was the christmas missions I don't think i would mind so much. But I do have a very low tollerance for this kind of thing.
