Morning

It's December. Are you ready for this?
festive cleaning, decluttering and then the required throwing about of sparkly stuff in the name of the holidays? No? Yeah neither are the rest of us. But let's do this.

So we sorta follow the Fat fairy and her fly lady system. We have adapted to suit lifestyles and sometimes roll our eyes at the fluffiness of the website but we do:
1. 15mins decluttering
2. Missions and Zones
3. have a naughty corner bar but someone else can decorate it this year

All the links can be found from the launch pad

But as it is the 1st of December It is babystep 1. This one looks easy. Shine your sink.

missions are here

The zone is zone 1 which is the porch, dining room and hallway. 15minutes folks, 15 minutes. get that decluttering done.

Tuesday is planning day

And just for the crazy people Christmas missions are here

the 1st Christmas mission

Oh yeah, the disclaimers:
long running thread, regulars been here years so can seem clicky, we're not. Newbies are always welcome we just as you to be respectful

DSCs are round tonight for games, food and presents tonight, and the quiz! Curry in the slow cooker. I've retreated upstairs for a brief rest before last two people arrive. Sitting upright for the games we've played so far and engaging my brain has been a bit much for me and I wanted to save some energy for the rest of the evening! Everyone understands my health issues though so I don't feel too bad (and I'm only missing a movie that I've seen a gazillion times recently anyway not games!).

DH has got tomorrow, Thursday and Friday off. Want to relax - and DH really really needs to, he's totally worn out and stressed from work - but also really want to tackle the house. It's just getting ridiculous and it being like that is making it very hard for me day-to-day. So we need to find a balance between rest and productivity!

Greymalkin · 27/12/2015 17:10

Pacing yourself and taking breaks sounds sensible Fuzz

Thanks for the links Can't - but I'm not following them too closely at the moment!

Ta da
Made beds x2
Put away some Xmas presents
Gathered up tons of recycling from all around the house
Washing x2 washed and hung up to dry
Folded dry washing
Quick trip to tesco for nappies and a curry

Hope you're all well

BlueEyeshadow · 27/12/2015 17:55

Ahh! My parents have arrived and the atmosphere got way more frantic in the first five minutes than it was over the whole of Christmas with FIL and SMIL... Have escaped downstairs for a moment before it all kicks off again over dinner.

Hope you find the right balance, Fuzz

CantSee4Looking · 28/12/2015 13:05

Ah bollocks it is a Bank holiday.

was trying to be all organised and flylady like too. Hmm

NickNacks · 28/12/2015 14:45

Belated Merry Christmas to you all! I have kept on top of things over Christmas period (we hosted) and I'm so determined to keep up with it into 2016. I've slightly tweaked fly lady as I've been doing it so many years I know what works and what doesn't for us now. One is instead of 15 mins decluttering per day, I'm doing the carrier bag a day challenge. Similar time spent I think but in busy days one large thing that takes 15 seconds can also count and i feel accomplished.

Enjoy your bank holidays everyone. Smile

CantSee4Looking · 28/12/2015 16:42

Right as this is a flying thread, and I have been flying today I am going to post a ta da list

Strip bed
put duvet and 1st load of pillows through the wash
clean windows sil
hang thermal lined curtains
empty desk
start process of sorting through stuff to go back and away
put some decorations/christmasy bits away (not taken anything down but there were bits that were brought out and never went up
sort through the fabric project basket and make a mental list of what needs to be finished off
Go through mending pile.
collect laundry downstairs by washing machine
Lose mobile Hmm
Wonder in which safe place I have put the 2016 diary Hmm
fix the stool which has got wobbly
try to run an errand in town but thwarted by the bank holiday so will have to do tomo
empty bin and take out the recycling
spend 5mins on decluttering the car

All i have left to do is to sort though a pile of paperwork, make my bed and then start plugging away at normal clothes type laundry. Will be back with the links later

How did today go cant see?

We didn't get much done as we had a family get together today.

Tomorrow planning on painting our bedroom and assembling some furniture.

NickNacks · 29/12/2015 13:33

Is anyone still flying? Or is it that limbo week of the year that has knocked everyone off course?

Waves to everyone lurking anyway. 🖐

CantSee4Looking · 29/12/2015 14:05

I am probably one of the few tbh nickNacks although it is slow with lovely lie ins as needed. Ds is away though so there is no chance of fun family time.
Hope you are having a lovely week NickNacks

ScattyMum every little bit is progress in the right direction and stuff together is good to, and arguably more important this time. It will happen but enjoy the journey.

Finally got moving as af has thrown my get up and go into a corner and beat it to a pulp. 2 painkillers and a plan for some lovely comfort food later and I am about ready to reattempt the errand I wanted to do yesterday.

OP posts:
Greymalkin · 29/12/2015 18:10

Hopefully you can get some rest Can't whilst DS is away.

< waves to NickNacks > I'm doing some light flying:

Dishwasher x2
Hand washing up
Stripped and remade DSs bed
Tackled cat litter trays
Put out my body weight in recycling for collection tomorrow
Sorted some things for the charity shop

When is everyone taking down their Christmas decs? I'm itching to put them away and get back to 'normal' but will hold off til NYE, that way the new year starts afresh house wise

CantSee4Looking · 29/12/2015 18:22

We are taking the main ones down on the 3rd? (Sunday) as there are people here on the Saturday. Ds' were going to come down today but I have a mountain of winter veg and I want to find a nice soup recipe and a courgette noodle recipe too.

Gentle day today. Have successfully ran errands that I wanted to do yesterday today. But not done much else. Need to put a load of washing on though so about to do that. Other than that it is pootling about recipe hunting GrinGrin

Evening all. Have been a little bit like whoknows in that i have been flying in between home and dp's for the entirety of the holidays. At home tonight, dc's despatched to stbxh's until Monday and packing for a road trip to Germany to see the New Year in/deliver dp's dc's home. First get together of all dc's went well, ended uo staying for 3 nights instead of 1 and, although very early days and undoubtedly in honeymoon period, all seemed to go very well and all dc's seemed to get on. I have read the blended families threads on here.....they scare me shitless so no grand statements but it went as well as it could have done.

Bearing in mind I am Germany bound tomorrow, i have popped in now to wish you all a Happy New Year. I know I have been crap of late but I also know there have been times this year when the advice and serenity of this thread has kept me sane. So luffs you all. See you in 2016. I could make some rash promise to fly but fuck that...I will just try and be here more often.

Greymalkin · 31/12/2015 07:34

Thanks WhoKnows - I'm too scared to even attempt to run the January thread!!

Thanks for this thread Can't

Glad things went well with all the kiddos Ellie, happy new year to you too

Today DH and I are rearranging furniture and creating a proper study/office area which will hopefully make better use of the space we have too.
We have also been talking a lot about decluttering together and getting rid of a lot of the stuff we have that we just do not need. This makes me irrationally excited that DH wants to tidy and get organised!!!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 31/12/2015 10:33

I'll get the new one started later. Might not have many links for the first few days as we're away and I'm on my phone, however I think DH has got his laptop.

MercuryRising · 31/12/2015 12:12

Hi lovely ladies I would like to join you for the January thread. I am pregnant with surprise dc3 (due beginning of March) and looking to move end of Jan to mid- Feb so desparately need to get organised Smile

Greymalkin · 31/12/2015 13:11

< waves to Mercury >

WhoKnows I don't mind helping with links if you need me to?

fuzzpig · 31/12/2015 13:35

Congrats Mercury! :)

I'm back from a couple more days at mum's, seeing lots of friends. Needless to say there has been no flying! Thankfully I managed some laundry before we went and DH has done more since. I'm knackered, it was lovely seeing people but it's worn me out - kind of crashed yesterday evening. At least DH is off today and tomorrow so we should be able to have a quiet time.

I've found out about a couple of exhibitions we'd really like to see (Escher, mainly for DH, and a rock/gem show) - hopefully will stay at mum's and get to see both. Lots of home ed opportunities from those subjects! Not really sure when we are going to start 'term' though.

CantSee4Looking · 31/12/2015 16:00

Congratulations Mercury

So ta da flying wise:
2 loads of washing
Handwashing
homemade soup
lie in
food for tonight is prepped and just waiting for the bread machine to finish making the dough.
House cleaning was delegated and done.
about to grab a shower and deal with laundry.

Now all I have to do is find the diary I bought for 2016 and sort out stuff for going in the mail on saturday.

Evening all, I'm new around this part of the board. I tried to start following the Fly Lady regime 3 yrs ago exactly (NY resolution) but drifted off after about a month (failed NY resolution, obvs!).
But this time I've got more determination and a bigger house.... we moved from a 2 bed to a 3 bed this year, and the space is divine. I now genuinely do have enough space for everything, so should have no excuse for not putting it there! And training the DDs to do the same (DP's a lost cause). Hopefully if I join a group like this it'll be a doddle.
(First rule of Fly Club, don't start off with unrealistic expectations of Fly Club)
