Morning

It's December. Are you ready for this?
festive cleaning, decluttering and then the required throwing about of sparkly stuff in the name of the holidays? No? Yeah neither are the rest of us. But let's do this.

So we sorta follow the Fat fairy and her fly lady system. We have adapted to suit lifestyles and sometimes roll our eyes at the fluffiness of the website but we do:
1. 15mins decluttering
2. Missions and Zones
3. have a naughty corner bar but someone else can decorate it this year

All the links can be found from the launch pad

But as it is the 1st of December It is babystep 1. This one looks easy. Shine your sink.

missions are here

The zone is zone 1 which is the porch, dining room and hallway. 15minutes folks, 15 minutes. get that decluttering done.

Tuesday is planning day

And just for the crazy people Christmas missions are here

the 1st Christmas mission

Oh yeah, the disclaimers:
long running thread, regulars been here years so can seem clicky, we're not. Newbies are always welcome we just as you to be respectful

New desk!

Festive building work, house moving and fledglings flying. Gotta be the December thread.
SearedChestnut · 14/12/2015 13:52

[SC emerges with slightly hysterical air from between folds of bubble wrap]

Hi all! [Thanks for brew Blue Makes note to self about Christmas hair cut] Well done for getting desk organised!

[Leaves some Christmas "stimulants" on naughty corner bar for those who are sleep-deprived]

Yargh! Somehow now terribly behind with both parcels and cards despite being ahead a week or so ago.

Electrics went out completely this weekend leaving us with no hot water, heating and in some parts of the house, no light. Grrrrr. No dw or wm either (we think it is one of those appliances causing the problem.) Emergency electricians obligingly came out first thing this morning and stayed for hrs (for a price) only to tell us what we already knew and left us with advice to try machines one by one. It is becoming apparent that the electrics we installed when we moved in are now out of date (although how to convince dh of that I do not know!) They will be back on Wed to fix everything properly apparently. Last thing I want is dodgy electrics and no dw/wm for Christmas guests. But mainly have wasted a lot of time dealing with fault which is frustrating!

One of the main parcels for godchildren which I ordered on 28 Nov fhs has gone completely astray and non-one knows anything about it. Now have to dash about finding something different (and the pickings are pretty hopeless here)!

Dh returned from travels, slept for most of Sat, attended dd's ballet demonstration on Sunday (which looked like 2 hrs hour's worth of very elegant but nonetheless tortuous exercises to me but dd v. happy and completely unphased and bouncing around with uncontrolled energy afterwards!) and then dh declared he was "going to the office for a couple of hours". When I protested about never seeing him, he said "but I didn't go in to work yesterday". Hmm

No Flying. Not a thing. Washing pile stacking up again. Even my usually shiny sink is full of roasting pans that need attending to. Dog is unwalked as yet and I caught him playing in the garden with a very dead mouse which was yuck! DD has spent far too long hunched over her Ipod doing heaven knows what. And unfinished parcels and rolls of wrapping paper and ribbon have taken over the entire sitting room. Dh is literally side-stepping over everything Christmas-related on his way out of the house ... .

If I had a bottle of Christmas sherry available, I think I would swig it right now! Instead I think I shall chivvy dog and dd out in to fresh air for a much-needed walk.

Knitting hope a blast of Handel proved uplifting once you were there (although I share your dislike of being stuck in a theatre seat)!

Cant and knitting will definitely treat myself to a winter flowering jasmine in that case (once I find out when best to plant)

Can't about those reindeer noses ... . Grin

Can't and Fuzz hope you are able to catch up on sleep tonight!

Lauren happy birthday to your dd! Hope you have a lovely party! And attending to horses in the snow sounds like my idea of heaven (although I know it is cold hard work in reality) but always miss riding at this time of year!

Crikey Grey that list is humungous!!! Congratulations!! And great that you were able to have a lie-in too! (The tea and raisin wine sounds delicious btw!)

Waves to Toffee Shannara Stillwearing Dogsbum Honu Nicknacks Feetheart Whoknows and anyone else I've missed!

SearedChestnut · 14/12/2015 13:55

Blimey Grey I have just clocked that you have "wrapped all Christmas presents!" That deserves a medal!

Don't think I will ever get to the end of mine ... .

SearedChestnut · 14/12/2015 13:57

Whoo hoo Blue talk about organised!! Well done for getting desk sorted so soon after moving in! It looks great (and extremely efficient set up too).

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 15/12/2015 09:35

Morning,

I haven't kept up either, it really is a whirl of activity at the moment. DS broke up last week and is enjoying being at home, but this week is non-stop last minute shopping, carol concerts, ice skating, visitors arriving, then on Sunday I have to travel two hundred miles for a funeral on Monday Sad. All my shopping is done, but I need to make lists of what has been bought for who by the DCs as we will be going out to finish it off after DD gets out of school today. Oh and need to finish my cards.

SearedChestnut · 15/12/2015 12:21

Waves to Whoknows and Shannara and everyone else!

I'm sorry to hear you are attending a funeral on Monday Whoknows particularly poignant at this time of year I should imagine.

Enjoy the pantomime Shannara!

DD is off on a visit to her old school atm with her old class - lovely of them to allow them to visit in such a "full on" week! (Managed to persuade her in to the bath prior and also managed to get some knots out of her hair prior to her setting out thankfully.) I'm only sorry that I can't invite them all back to our place but we will be entertaining on Sunday and it will be a stretch to get the house ready by then!!

Anyway, I now have an hour or so of peace in which to do a bit of intensive present wrapping (on to the office presents now). But have run out of coffee [duh!]

Dh and I had the mother of all spats last night (about the house again) but we have set the same old same old arguments aside this morning. As a result of the argument, we are buying a second cheapo wm (not because of the number of us but because of the inadequate spin on the other one and the fact that one is forever going up and downstairs to laundry).

Electrician coming tomorrow, window cleaner Fri, tree Sat.
Entertaining twice and going out to two concerts before weekend and two events over weekend itself.

Tis wierd this Christmas - I normally love wrapping and build-up - just don't have any zing yet! Haven't even made my cake yet!

Good luck coping with all the madness everyone!

[At least Christmas jumpers isn't "a thing" here thank heavens!!]

SearedChestnut · 15/12/2015 13:46

isn't a thing?

aren't a thing!

oh dear Blush

laurenamium · 15/12/2015 15:46

Afternoon!

Ta da :
Put ironing away
Swept floors
Kitchen hot spots
Washing up
Watched DD school play
Baby gymnastics
Put laundry that didn't need ironing away

The mission today doesn't apply as I did a towel sort when I moved Smile

Im done housework for the day I think, apart from clearing up tea/ bedtime etc. DP announced this morning now he has finished work until 4th January. I should be pleased but he will be hugely in the way when it comes to keeping the house clean and he makes mess everywhere he goes.

DD isn't very well so we've cosied up on the sofa and are watching scooby doo. I really should make tea Blush

Off to read the thread!

SearedChestnut · 15/12/2015 18:03

Waves (redundant) curry comb at Lauren! Smile

Hope your dd feels better soon. (Know what you mean about never being alone long enough to 'get things done'!!)

Ta da:
Christmas haircut (feel 10 yrs younger although very definitely don't look it)
office parcels
Christmas photos for cards to photographer to copy (very late this!)
dd to and from old school (they were so lovely and welcoming that she and her friends stayed most of the afternoon - gosh we miss it!)
ordered repeat prescription
phone calls to arrange Christmas visits from friends

To do:
finish very last posting parcels (urgent!)
finalise arrangements for two cocktail events in office this week
do some preparatory cooking
more will and testament stuff
start writing Christmas cards
start tidying up so window cleaner has free passage around house Blush

SearedChestnut · 15/12/2015 21:30

Not much more achieved tonight as cooked supper (M&S fish and chips: delicious!) cleared up for electricians in the morning and watched amazing programme about Soyuz launch and docking with International Space Station etc.

With regard to which dd said "do you know Mummy, there is a conservatory at the Vatican?" [she meant "observatory"]

Later on in the evening she said she was going upstairs to start reading "Withering Heights".

Hmm Something tells me we may have to do a bit of formal English study over the holidays ... .

Very quiet on here, hope everyone is surviving pre-Christmas chaos!

BlueEyeshadow · 15/12/2015 22:38

I have done some actual flying today!

Ta da!
Laundry x loads
Finally took up stair protector stuff as no more furniture to move for a while!
Hoovered through (esp stairs as Blush tide mark around edges of protector stuff now revealed!!)
Bit of menu planning
Minor tidying as DS1 had a friend over
Made loads of arrangements for next week
Invoices/accounts

Need to start on food that can be prepped in advance too, SC.

DS2 watched the space launch live at school (risky IMO, just in case, but all fine fortunately!!), and suddenly on the way home, his imagination started running away with him and he got all teary about how he might feel sick, and miss home if he had to go to space. Had to reassure him that that was highly unlikely ever to happen!!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 15/12/2015 23:11

Well done Blue! No Flying here, but I have had a Christmas cooking evening.

Lauren - welcome back, I know what you mean about DPs under feet, mine has been off for a couple of days (and tomorrow) as DS broke up from school last week and although it's nice having him around I'm quite looking forward to him going back to work on Thurs so we can get a bit more back to normal routine for a few days.

SC - yes, the funeral is of an aunt who I was very close to growing up and we always spent Christmas Day at her house, so it's going to be hard.

So, ta-da!

Pilates class and errands this morning, then accompanied DD and her class to their carol service at church, which was lovely, DD snuggled up to me most of the time. Then home to pick up DS and DH and we all went off Christmas shopping in the nearest big town for all the DCs presents to us, each other and grandparents. Home again for a snacky tea and to watch the ISS docking, then cooking. We made stained glass window biscuits for DD's teacher and TA, then mince pies, oh and bottled the sloe gin (with sampling).

4 loads of laundry done and dried, just need to sort it all now, then off to bed. IL's coming for an overnight stay tomorrow, but I'm off to work and DH is in charge, so he is on tidying/cleaning duties.

CantSee4Looking · 16/12/2015 11:10

Withering heights sc Grin

Full day working for me so more work than flying here! We've been to rhyme time and had lunch and after the nursery run I'm off to the signing group for DS

How often do people Hoover their stairs and hall ways upstairs? I've never been in a house to be in charge of cleaning it! Only bungalows!

To do:
Sweep floors
Mission (need to read it)
Clean up as I go!!
Laundry *1

CantSee4Looking · 16/12/2015 12:35

Withering Heights in on the yr7 reading list here, so that would be the same age as your dd SC personally I am glad they made this choice after I have moved on as I always refer to it as whittering heights Blush

NowBringUsSomeFuzzpiggyPudding · 16/12/2015 12:37

Sod all done here, just been in so much pain the last few days. Distracting myself with wrapping presents and getting the last few presents sorted online (although, as the DCs really need some clothes and I need them to be cheap, I'll have to wander through the mall tomorrow )

BlueEyeshadow · 16/12/2015 13:33

I've never read Withering Heights.

Am currently sitting on a bus and just saw some of DS1's old school friends walking in a long crocodile off to do carol singing or something, which was a bit odd. Been in the city meeting a friend for coffee and doing a bit of Christmas shopping.

Lauren I aim to hoover everywhere once a week, but it doesn't always happen. Especially at the moment!
