Carrier bag a day till Christmas challenge anyone?

doublechocchip · 23/11/2015 22:42

Trying to de-clutter everywhere before Christmas comes. Wondered if anyone wanted to join this carrier bag challenge?
Whether it be clothes or toys passed on/donated/sold/binned or indeed any other household stuff you want to get rid of, I thought filling one carrier bag a day seems more achievable than trying to tackle a whole room at once!

A bin bag of stuff counts for 3 carrier bags Grin

Got rid of a bag of kids clothes to the charity shop today and got a load of cuddly toys waiting to go into school tomorrow for the school fair. Feel lighter already!

Well today I filled nearly 3 black bin bags of kids and adult clothing to be handed in. I'm heading back upstairs to be more ruthless shortly!

Greymalkin · 08/12/2015 16:23

Sold and shipped some more crap on eBay and took a bagful to the charity shop.

I've also fallen behind fuzz as DS has been unwell. He's on the mend now and in nursery tomorrow so I plan to hit the dining room hard and clear out loads of rubbish

lighteningirl · 08/12/2015 16:33

Oh great bump I haven't done my 'cupboard of the day' yet. dh screwed a pole across the cupboard under the sink yesterday to hang the spray bottles from and that cupboards cleared and perfect now.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 08/12/2015 19:57

Three more bags of children's books, two for School and one for Pre-School, (and they helped me sort them).

We have a lot of books!

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 08/12/2015 19:59

My Eldest Son got excited and told Daddy he had three "new" books: before he panicked, I clarified that they were three already in the house, they had just come to light in the tidying.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 09/12/2015 02:35

Amd three bags of rubbish ...

CiderwithBuda · 09/12/2015 15:27

Does a carrier bag of dog hair count? DH brushed the dogs!

Vinorosso74 · 09/12/2015 17:16

Cider I guess it's something out the house!
Well I've wrapped some Xmas presents which has finished off 3 rolls of paper so that's them gone from lounge cupboard. While rummaging in there, I sorted some other bits and cleared out quite a lot of 'bits'-random partly used candles, box for an old 'phone and camera amongst other crap...There is a lot in this cupboard so think I need a full day or two to blitz it properly.

PigeonPie · 09/12/2015 17:42

Haven't had time to sort anything today, but DH and I have had a day off and almost got Christmas sorted (we'd done almost nothing) so I'm relieved. Hope I'll have time to do some more sorting tomorrow.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 10/12/2015 01:23

I should be going to bed, as I am exhausted after my Parents visited, but I wanted to jot down what left today.

My Parents took away a rowing machine; 13 bags of plaster rubble, each about the size of a pillow case (well, these had been taken out of the house but were lurking round the back and needed to go); three very large carrier bags of recycling we can't recycle here; a large carrier of carers ditto and around five bags of un-needed books and jigsaws. I also dropped another two carriers of books to School and have one for Pre-School, I have two large carriers of floor jigsaws (mostly vehicles) for School (they do want them, I checked!) and found another half-dozen unwanted/unused gifts to give to the Toy Service I mentioned before, which has happened but the toys haven't yet been collected by the charity. As a plus, all the jigsaws we now own are on the shelves grouped in size order and within reach of the correct child.

Last night, I think as displacement tidying, I dealt with my kitchen, which looks considerably better and from which the three bags of rubbish I mentioned last night came.

PigeonPie · 10/12/2015 06:38

Well done TwoandTwo - you'll feel so much better going down to the clean kitchen this morning! And great to get rid of so much.

Greymalkin · 10/12/2015 18:25

That's a fantastic amount of decluttering TwoandTwo

Today I shipped some more eBay stuff and sorted through DSs book box weeding out the outgrown books. Also sorted the magazine rack and broke up a load of cardboard boxes for recycling.

DS is in nursery tomorrow and I intend to seriously tackle the dining room room of doom

CiderwithBuda · 11/12/2015 10:16

Not achieving much here. The decorating and new fireplace and fire are finally almost finished. DH just sorting out all the electrics for tv, sky box, PlayStation etc and then I can start putting that room back together. There will be some games and DVDs to go but I did sort and declutter that room already so won't be too bad.

Then sitting area off kitchen/dining area.

Then I can tackle dining room - also a room of doom Greymalkin!

Then maybe I can start doing Xmas tree etc.

fuzzpig · 11/12/2015 11:07

Stalled big-time here! Xmas Blush Must try harder.

MrsHathaway · 11/12/2015 12:10

Took loads out this morning.

Bin Day.

doublechocchip · 12/12/2015 13:44

I've still been going although had a couple of days off this week!

Done 2 carrier bags of random stuff, old clothes (too bad to donate), old celebration tins- I had 4?

Also managed to do one of paperwork.
Hope everyone's getting on ok

Vinorosso74 · 12/12/2015 14:51

I've not done very well this week as I've been doing a lot of catching up with people before Xmas! I have been ruthless getting rid of odds and sods as I find them so haven't completely neglected the task. Got a day at home tomorrow so will try and get some more done.
There is noticeably less clutter around which is good and will be even less once the baby bits go to SIL.

IamSantaClaus · 12/12/2015 14:53

I'm doing really well at filling up bags to go to charity shops but none have actually left my house yet ...

Greymalkin · 12/12/2015 16:23

I've got rid of shed loads of stuff this weekend:

A whole bin bag of random paper crap for recycling
Three boxes of bits went to the charity shop - old toys, clothes and books
Small cabinet also went to charity shop
Sorted through sheet music, kept favourites and the rest wen to charity
Threw out random charger cables and leads that haven't been used for years, so obviously don't need them
Used up several rolls of Christmas wrapping paper before buying any new stuff
Sorted out my wine making supplies, chucked out out of date ingredients, rehomed neatly into a kitchen cupboard and chucked old cardboard box
Shipped eBay parcels, so getting rid of the items themselves and lots of random packaging material.

I pretty much have my dining room back now!

PigeonPie · 12/12/2015 19:42

We've had a really successful day today. The DSs and I completely sorted the Playmobil that they've now grown out of. Packed away theirs ready to go in the loft and boxed up all that belonged to their older cousins so it can go back to them (Dsis may well hate me, but never mind!)

DH managed to fix a kitchen cupboard door which had come off its hinges I hadn't slammed it once too often really and has put up shelves in the downstairs loo for things like the buckets and indoor laundry bits to be stored sensibly.

To celebrate we went out for pizza!

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 13/12/2015 01:26

Thanks Pigeon and Grey: I do feel good about it but there is still so much to do ... I checked in again recently on Sole's hoarding thread ...Sad

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 13/12/2015 01:28

Oh, and well done you, too, Grey just caught-up with the thread.

My Dining Room is also a "room of doom" ...

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 13/12/2015 01:29

Oh, and Pigeon!!

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 13/12/2015 01:31

Solo's thread ...

Shiraznowplease · 13/12/2015 01:42

Have really stalled over the last few days as dc both have chest infections and dh has s kidney infection. The thing I most need out of here is all germs 😝 going to try to do some tomorrow by sticking them all on the sofa with Xmas movies. Have to pull up carpets downstairs ready for new ones to be fitted if that counts.
