Carrier bag a day till Christmas challenge anyone?

doublechocchip · 23/11/2015 22:42

Trying to de-clutter everywhere before Christmas comes. Wondered if anyone wanted to join this carrier bag challenge?
Whether it be clothes or toys passed on/donated/sold/binned or indeed any other household stuff you want to get rid of, I thought filling one carrier bag a day seems more achievable than trying to tackle a whole room at once!

A bin bag of stuff counts for 3 carrier bags Grin

Got rid of a bag of kids clothes to the charity shop today and got a load of cuddly toys waiting to go into school tomorrow for the school fair. Feel lighter already!

No decluttering for me today, been busy catching up on housework. However, tomorrow I will be in the dining room - "the dumping room of doom" lots to chuck out for there!

Just about to start on the kids toys with DD(3) and DS(1) 'helping'... Wish me luck! Grin

We cleared out a load of outgrown games, toys and DVDs and rubbish yesterday. At least three large carrier bags and most of it is good charity shop stuff.

Today we're going for the study and airing cupboard.

I stayed at my mum's last night but managed to do another carrier bag before we left. I wouldn't have bothered normally so it's thanks to this thread that I did it! :)

I won't get back til quite late but hopefully will have some energy to gather another bag before falling into bed.

DH and I sorted through all our DVDs this weekend and sold 89 on music magpie. Result. They're being collected tomorrow.

Spent a while today putting more stuff on eBay.

We've just done the study and airing cupboard. Chucked plenty bedding, jackets and winter wear. DH is really on board and DS who volunteers at Oxfam is going to take a bag of books from the eaves each week until they've gone. My car is now bursting with stuff for dropping off tomorrow.

Grey-how much will you get for the DVDs?

I've been pretty rubbish as had my sister staying for weekend for Xmas shopping trip. So brought stuff into house rather than get rid.

Bag that was in the car went to charity shop yesterday though.

BHF are coming to pick up a huge shelving tv unit and an ikea tv unit tomorrow. We had to empty it all today so it's now all over the dining room table. Am determined to get rid of lots rather than just put it all away again when new furniture arrives.

Decorating two rooms at the same time when one room is having fireplace opened up was not a bright move!

Roll on Friday when hopefully the worst will be over!

DH did a tip run today from the spare room/office. Computer bits that have been waiting to leave since 2007 onwards. Very carefully stripped so that almost everything could be recycled (eg metal separate from hard plastic separate from electronics). He's also got a huge bag of papers for an industrial shredding company.

Well done everyone you're all doing great!

I did another bag of recycling from dd's room - feel like its Groundhog Day there and yesterday filled a bag of rubbish from my room- who knew I was a secret hoarder of laddered tights?

I've done the equivalent of three bags of DCs' outgrown clothes to exit the house tomorrow. DH has made further inroads into the spare room/office and there is actually floor Blush

Chopin we've provisionally got £45 for all the DVDs, assuming they all pass the 'quality control measures' which I hope they will. I could probably have made more money selling them elsewhere, but I just wanted them gone with as little inconvenience as possible.

Today I am going to tackle the wall of book cases in our living room. We have a rampaging nearly-three year old and anything we don't want him to get his hands on goes up on the shelves, hence there is a lot of rubbish and crap there that needs sorting.

Not been very good on this at the weekend as been out a lot. Have managed to clear out some paperwork though. Need to get back on track!

BHF refused our shelving unit! Too big apparently. Told DH that when he bought it. There is another furniture charity that may take it but they are not open today. Wanted it gone as decorators coming tomorrow. Pah!

Will keep on sorting.

That's good Grey!

I dropped a load of stuff off at charity this morning. It does feel good to dump the junk Smile

I am on track. Four bags to textile recycling on weekend and gave a friend a bag of DD old clothes. I was a bit worried about keeping up momentum but we have just got a charity bag through the door, so plan to fill that + another bin bag... which = 6 carriers, so takes me through to Sunday! I will then take 3 bags of books to the local bookshop and spend the credit on crap xmas novels :)

DD has also agreed to sort out some toys to make room for Xmas, so hopefully I can do next week's all in one go.

Managed a whole bin bag yesterday! Very pleased. A drop in the ocean but still, it's progress, and I mustn't get disheartened because then I will give up.

This morning I sorted through some clutter in my room as well before I got up.

I like this idea - I am not sure I will manage a bag a day, but I can only try.

I did give away a carrier bagful of yarn yesterday - so that's a start!

This thread seems to have kick started me into action. I even washed the carpets today and cleared the leaves off the front path today as I was feeling in a clear it up sort of mood.

I was telling the children about William Morris saying that you should only have things in your home which are either beautiful or useful..they were looking a bit worried Grin

I just wanted to say a big thank you to doublechocchip, my New Years resolution was to declutter and hey better late than never. I have been doing since last Wednesday so six bags done 😁 my main progress is giving everything I planned to eBay to the charity shop realising that I just wasn't going to get round to it, feeling so much better for getting rid

StrapOnDodo · 01/12/2015 15:03

I think i donate and buy from charity shops then I don't have to donate actual money so much iyswim. A lot of my clutter accumulated when we had planned a car boot to raise money for a school project and I stopped donating.
