Carrier bag a day till Christmas challenge anyone?

doublechocchip · 23/11/2015 22:42

Trying to de-clutter everywhere before Christmas comes. Wondered if anyone wanted to join this carrier bag challenge?
Whether it be clothes or toys passed on/donated/sold/binned or indeed any other household stuff you want to get rid of, I thought filling one carrier bag a day seems more achievable than trying to tackle a whole room at once!

A bin bag of stuff counts for 3 carrier bags Grin

Got rid of a bag of kids clothes to the charity shop today and got a load of cuddly toys waiting to go into school tomorrow for the school fair. Feel lighter already!

I took a bag as far as the car today. Had a few errands to do so took some stuff for charity shop. Got home and remembered I hadn't dropped it off. At least it's out of the house!

Some of it was toys - I might try Barnardos with them. Thanks for that tip unlimited.

Builder is hopefully starting work on opening up a fireplace in the sitting area off our kitchen tomorrow. Have been gradually clearing the area out. Have loads of magazines that I want to flick through before I junk them but I should probably just chuck them. I like pulling recipes out. And then never cook them! I should just chuck them. There is too many to put out with th recycling I think so might need a tip run.

I should probably try to get some sleep now!

IamSantaClaus · 26/11/2015 08:12

I failed on the first day Hmm. I shall do two bags today. Dcs are going to their dgm house so I'll be able to raid their toys.

rudolphistheboss · 26/11/2015 08:16

I've just got fed up emptying the dishwasher as there was no where to put the dcs' various plastic cups. Half a carrier bag full of the oldest, least used cups just gone out the door ready to go down to the bin. I'm on a roll! Grin

I am in although the amount of clutter I have a bin bag a day would be more appropriate!! day 1 .... Sorted out one bag of shoes for charity shop. Have decided feet aren't going back to pre pregnancy levels so no matter how gorgeous the shoes they are gone 😓 going to drop off on way to work

MrsHathaway · 26/11/2015 09:03

This is a great idea!

Baby stuff for me - toddler is definitely the last child. There's a bin sack or two needing sorting in his room so this afternoon I'll put him in my bed with CBeebies on and pile through.

Good luck for today everyone!

Peaceloveandpartyrings · 26/11/2015 09:16

I am in! DS can reach things I thought were too high for him, so now actually have to sort things instead of just moving them to higher ground!

doublechocchip · 26/11/2015 11:56

Went through 3 of dd1's toy tubs (those expedit fabric boxes) and binned a carrier bag of half done old projects, broken toys, and scrap paper. Still got loads more left to do in her room though it's grim.

Am in. Or will be from Saturday.

Have so much to sort. Mostly paperwork but need to seriously declutter.

I took a bag of DVDs to charity shop last week. And gave my old waterproof to clothing bin. So that's a start.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 26/11/2015 18:27

Four carrier bags and two larger, shopper type ones of books gone, to School and Pre-School. A large Ikea bag of clothes passed on, as well (they have been lurking for a while but I finally organised the drop-off). I have also sorted a pile of un-played with presents, most of which I hope the children will send to the toy service at the Church connected with their school, which supplies toys for children in need in our city.

MrsHathaway · 26/11/2015 18:36

Didn't look at clothes but managed a bag of crap from the playroom - broken toys, drawings, squashed artwork, etc.

fuzzpig · 26/11/2015 18:40

I love this idea! I'm in, if you'll have me.:)

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 26/11/2015 20:25

Hello, fuzz!

A large Ikea bag is now overfull with unused presents which can go to the toy service. One child retrieved stuff, one went and found more ... One was merely bemused.

Vinorosso74 · 26/11/2015 22:01

I've kind of been doing this for the last week then noticed this thread!
Got rid of 3 kids clothing bundles on Gumtree though do have more items on there. Put a bag full of DDs too small shoes/wellies in shoe recycling bin today. Have a bag of some bits to drop into charity shop tomorrow.
Now how to convince DP to make a start on his crap stuff!

Scattymum101 · 26/11/2015 22:56

I'm totally in. I move house in three weeks so I'm trying to pack a box per day but as in packing in also getting rid of stuff I don't want to take.
So far this week I've sold a bag of clothes on eBay, donated four bin bags of clothes to charity and a bag of books.
Starting to panic at how much crap we still have given I've been decluttering for over a year.

Themodernuriahheep · 26/11/2015 23:08

Brill idea. I'm in. Might need to be 7 at the weekend, though..

sandgrown · 27/11/2015 07:17

Took my first bag to the recycling area at our local supermarket and all the bins had gone! There was a big notice saying anyone leaving anything would be prosecuted for fly tipping? Am I wrong in thinking the various charities empty their own bins? I used to spend ages deciding which bin to put the bags in!

fuzzpig · 27/11/2015 09:56

I will start today. A nice even 4 weeks til Christmas. Although there may be days I'm not here, not sure what the plan is yet.

I'm tempted to try a bin bag a day instead of a carrier bag - even that would be a drop in the ocean

madmotherof2 · 27/11/2015 09:59

Great idea!

doublechocchip · 27/11/2015 11:56

How's everyone doing?

Got rid of another carrier (well a carrier bags worth of recycling) in to the recycling bin, all from dds room and desk. Confident I'll still fill another one though!

2 shoeboxes of toiletries to Project Shoebox and a carrier of other bits that i had no boxes for. Might do some burning too!

Vinorosso74 · 27/11/2015 13:31

Got rid of another bag to a Gumtree buyer!

Themodernuriahheep · 27/11/2015 16:23

1 carrier bag toiletries and toys, 12 cook and did books, and half an enormous tub if paint, to the same person. I reckon the equivalent of 4 bags.

No discernible difference yet.

IamSantaClaus · 27/11/2015 19:26

1 bag of baby clothes for a lovely friend
1 bag of clothes to charity shop
1 bag of clothes to be sold on eBay

Im so pleased I stumbled on this thread

fuzzpig · 27/11/2015 19:58

We're out of binbags or more likely there's a roll of them buried somewhere but I did a carrier bag, and the DCs did a carrier bag too (unbelievably slowly, but still)

That's two more bags than would have been filled today if I'd not seen this thread. Thanks OP Thanks

Fizrim · 27/11/2015 20:04

Fab-u-lous idea, count me in. We have persuaded DD to get rid of her toy kitchen, if I can bag all the dishes and cutlery up with it to the charity shop I'll be thrilled. We also have a local school that accepts toys in good condition for the second-hand toy stall (unfortunately we'll also be attending the fair so we'll come back with someone else's stuff Grin
