Well after several months shirking anything more than general tidying (due to having a baby) I'm going to revive this method. Hopefully it will keep me motivated. But I'm adapting it to suit my needs.

I have MS and post baby had a relapse which I'm still recovering from. But I'm pigging fed up feeling sorry for myself, looking at the mess.

So each day:
Kitchen surfaces cleaned
Living room decluttered before bed (move all baby stuff into one area once she in bed)
Pick one room/chore a day to unfuck. Starting with one 10min session and building on this as health improves.

So far today I've organised and put on wash. One in tumble drier and another one just in.

Bleach flung round toilet rim. Just need to go back and clean sink/toilet.

Anyone care to join me?

Yesterday I had a great "at home" day and got loads done. It's still not completely there but it is starting to look more like a normal home and less like an episode of Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners.

I didn't get my sewing done last night. I bought some new curtains so I need to sew the curtain tape on the top. I also want to make some bibs for DD. I was tired and fell asleep. I did get most of the morning prep done and I have to say, it makes such a huge difference getting it done the night before.

I'm tired today though. DD didn't sleep very well last night. I worked this morning. I'm just going to try and get the basics done. Laundry, washing up, tomorrow's school prep. No work tomorrow but I want to go shopping.

Will try and do a couple of 20/10s just to keep up momentum.

comeagainforbigfudge · 25/09/2015 09:12

Morning.

I've done hee haw this past couple of days. And probably won't do anything today either lazy bones as going to dentist later.

We had a water disaster other day. Upstairs neighbours just moved in and well let's just sat there was water dripping down outside wall, and onto my bathroom ceiling Sad. Didnt help that we were chapping his door for 20mins before he answered!!

Anyway, waiting on it drying out. Dunno if we should phone insurers or not? Never been in this situation before (luckily)

comeagainforbigfudge · 27/09/2015 16:37

Well unproductive day yesterday aka meeting friend for a catch up/showing off baby Wink

Today has just been general tidy and one 20/10 in the cupboard of hell.
One bag full binned and a few pairs of shoes put to side for charidee shop.

Bathroom ceiling looks awful as it's drying. Need to phone the guys that did my bathroom to get quote for replacing.
And as it turns out my insurance was only contents and not building then I really hope upstairs neighbour pays up!!

I was really lazy on Thursday and Friday so just did the basics. Then over the weekend we were so busy. I was feeling a bit dispirited by the mess on Sunday but I realised that the house is just so much better than it was just a week or two ago. I think it is getting better all the time so if I can just keep it up maybe I'll get there.

I was well organised for this morning (Monday) which makes things so much easier and less stressful. Just forgot two things but I got the washing hung out and cleaned the cat box etc so I was pleased.

Will try and do a 40/20 now. Just doing the online shop but it is very slow.

Hope everyone else is doing well. I might actually get the house sorted by Christmas.

smurfy2015 · 28/09/2015 13:32

hebihebi i award you with Brew as im following the thread with a lot of interest, i havent got started yet myself as under treatment atm and feeling poo

LetThereBeCupcakes · 29/09/2015 08:03

That’s great hebi - I always find the day much less stressful if I’ve organsied myself the night before. I failed spectacularly on that today though – my friend’s daughter has been taken ill so I was at her house with her last night, didn’t get back ‘til late and just collapse in bed. DH very helpful said “I’ve tided the washing up for you.” Tidied? TIDIED? FFS. He’s stacked it all up neatly. HOW IS THAT HELPFUL???

Anyway, hoping DS has a decent nap today so I can do the following:

  • Pack up Ebay parcel ready to post (decluttering AND £100 extra in the Christmas fund!)
  • October meal Plans
  • Put away laundry
  • 20/10 in craft room
  • readjust straps on DS’ buggy so he can move his arms.

And I have a wonderfully relaxing evening planned – DH is out so I’m going to sit with a Brew and some Cake and my gardenning catalogues, whilst watching mastershef Australia. Can there be anything nicer?

smurfy hope you feel better soon.

hebihebi · 01/10/2015 05:23

Thanks smurfy, I hope you are feeling better soon too.

Cupcakes, did your DS nap? How did you get on?

Things here are up and down. I'm still trying my best to get myself organised and build good routines. I don't always succeed but I'm doing my best. I was thinking of printing out some checklists to keep me focussed. I realised that I often put things off until the kids are in bed but then I'm so tired in the evening I end up falling asleep and wake up the next day and nothing is done. Yesterday I started getting the bags organised as soon as we got in and did bits and pieces throughout the evening and that really helped a lot.

I'm not working tomorrow. Yay! But DD has an inset day so I will see how it goes with both DDs at home.

I applied for a job and they are interested in me so I'm a bit nervous bout it all. It sounds a great place to work but it's a little far from my home and I'm not sure about the hours but hopefully it will work out.

RaspberryBlonde · 01/10/2015 06:13

Cupcakes my DH does that with the washing up too. Drives me mad as he invariably puts saucepans that have just been used to boil potatoes and are therforee not that dirty on top of greasy frying pans, so it actually ends up taking longer to wash up!

comeagainforbigfudge · 01/10/2015 10:56

That has to be a man thing (or a ruse to get out of washing!) Mine was in a huff as he had no clean underwear. Twas in the wash. But I pointed out to him that he knows how to use the washing machine. He replied "thought you were prioritising DDs stuff" yes because the washing machine only does ONE wash a day. Idiot.

Anyway, yesterday was a day scrubbing bathroom. Took most of day as did it when DD slept. Which meant 20min bursts.
Also sorted all her clothes. The newborn/0-3months stuff bagged up ready to go to sister that is having baby next.

Working my way round the living room today. All the corners of crap sorted so far. Baby feeding break then hoovering. Got two drawers of "stuff that accumulates" to go through. They are wee drawers though so hopefully won't take long she says ignoring the fact that there are 8 other such drawers, two of which are paperwork hell

Sadly DS did not nap on Tuesday. Fortunately he was in a co-operative mood so I still managed to get all of my jobs done, and even sit down and do a bit of cross stitch in the evening (a piece I started as a gift for my friend's 30th birthday. She will be 40 in January so I'd better get on with it.)

fudge at least he wants to wear clean pants. If my DH runs out of underwear he just leaves the same pair on until clean ones arrive in his drawer.

Slight disaster last night - running DS' bath when a little voice pipes up "there's BRIO in this box!" Yep, he's found my Christmas present stash. Dammit.

So, jobs for today:
Move Christmas Present stash. Hide better.
Make biscuits for Step Mum
Strip & remake bed
And hopefully a bit more cross stitch.

hebihebi · 02/10/2015 06:14

Yes, last year too the DSs found their Christmas presents. We don't have many places to hide them so I thought a high cupboard where I store the winter blankets would be perfect but no!

2 weeks ago I decided to cut down on sugar. I haven't been perfect but I've been doing well and I thought I might have lost weight but my scales are broken. Anyway today I was in town so I weighed myself and I lost a stone. Shock A whole stone in 2 weeks. I was so shocked. I have another stone to lose to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and then I'd like to lose another stone or two on topic that.

Today I got the winter clothes out of storage. I've been sitting through what can be worn, what should be thrown out and what can be sold. If DD sleeps I might have a go at photographing the stuff to be sold.

DeathMetalMum · 02/10/2015 20:15

Wow hebi that's brilliant for two weeks, and well done on the eBaying Cupcakes I don't have the patience, either facebook stuff and if it doesn't go quickly then it's the charity shop. I also need to sort out some good space to hide Xmas presents my usual space on top of the wardrobe is full so I guess I should put that near the top of my list for next week.

We have been potty training dd2 this week so haven't really achieved much more than the basics, but have managed to keep on top of things we usally slide such as surfaces and I did quite a thorough clean of the kitchen floor this week too. Quite an unproductive week.

So far for the week coming (as I don't get a lot done at the weekends we try do a family outing on a Saturday and I am at my mum's for most of Sunday).

Fix runners on dd2's chest of drawers.
Clear space above wardrobe.
Sort out a shoebox of photographs that is in the top of the wardrobe, there are multiple packets which is guess I might want to keep a handful of them maybe.
Re-plan kitchen - I keep niggling that everything is in the wrong place in the kitchen and that if we re-organizec the cupboards we would free up so much space/make the kitchen work easier but i can't decide how it should be either..... Hmm

comeagainforbigfudge · 04/10/2015 12:00

Argh! All my hard work in the living room ruined! It's a tip again. Going to sort it this afternoon. Going to make some homemade soup first with leftover veg Grin

OP posts:
hebihebi · 04/10/2015 21:36

I know that feeling! Grin Sometimes I think the only way to get a tidy house is to keep the kids in the shed.

I finished sorting out the winter clothes and had a big clear out of stuff that's too small, worn out, never wear. It was good! I still haven't photographed the stuff for selling.

I finally did a bit of sewing today. I'm very pleased with it. The kids have to take lunch mats to school but they only have two each at the moment so I'm always washing and ironing them during the week. They now have 5 each so I only need to iron them at the weekend. Bags are all ready for Monday morning but I need to sort out my lesson plans for the week. Work was cancelled today so I will have time.

hebihebi · 04/10/2015 21:37

Oh, I forgot. I made sure to put the dishwasher and washing machine on in the evening while putting the kids to bed. I usually forget.

Pobspits · 04/10/2015 22:01

Argh I was doing well then fd went and turned 5 and received the entire contents of the Argos toy section....

Pobspits · 04/10/2015 22:02

Erm dd not fd...

RaspberryBlonde · 09/10/2015 08:14

Hello all...hope everyone is well.

We are away for a few days next week for a bit of a holiday but trying to sell the house again as our previous buyers pulled out, so some blitzing to do before we leave. Kitchen needs a good going over. As usual DH is focusing on doing pointless jobs like repainting a chipped bit of the back doorstep so think I'll be doing most of it!

Also need to start some planning for Christmas - DD has her birthday at the beginning of December so need to start thinking about what to get and tell people so she doesn't end up with too many duplicate presents as she got loads last year! Pobspits I feel your pain with toys. DD is not here that much as I work 4 days a week so we don't buy her masses but it is still a plastic explosion when she is here and she isn't even two yet so it's only going to get worse!

Pobspits · 09/10/2015 08:47

Well I've had an ear and chest infection and house has descended into chaos!! Today was my day for blitzing it but dd off sick - help!!!oh and I've had 2 hrs sleep...,

Enjoy your time away Raspberry

RaspberryBlonde · 09/10/2015 10:37

That sounds awful pobspits, hope you are all on the mend soon and get some sleep.

So far have managed to get out lots of toys so mainly going in the wrong direction here!

Pobspits · 10/10/2015 13:40

Have gutted dd's room today. Got rid of LOADS of stuff and found my stash of Xmas wrapping paper which I had forgotten about!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 12/10/2015 08:43

How are you feeling now pobs?

Disaster with the Ebay parcel - it got damaged in transit and I had to refund the whole lot. Gutted. I took out insurance with it but I bet they'll try and squirm out of paying. Sad

I had an intensive course with work last week (HND in a week, anybody?) so dispatched DS to grandparents. Thought I might be able to get some sorting done in the evenings but we had tonnes of homework so nothing got done at all! Need to really pull my finger out and catch up. So plan for today...

Sort top of wardrobes
Dinner - something fishy
Brush ridiculously hairy dogs
20/10 on PC. Files are getting out of hand again.

Think I might need some Brew first though...

DesertIslandPenguin · 12/10/2015 18:39

I have reached the end of my tether today. I feel like tossing a match in the front door then driving away. I hate my house and how messy everyone is. It's like being a student all over again but without any of the fun. Fed up and absolutely drowning.

Raaarrrrr!!

Going to go and investigate the UFYH website.

comeagainforbigfudge · 12/10/2015 18:56

I'm feeling that way today as well penguin

I had been doing so good keeping on top of everything. But it's all gone to pot over the weekend and I feel like I don't know where to start again.
The only thing that we've kept going is making sure dishes are done before bed but there's that much clutter on all the surfaces that, well, who would know they'd been done?!!

Going to clear the dinner table first. That's a start at leastWink
