Well after several months shirking anything more than general tidying (due to having a baby) I'm going to revive this method. Hopefully it will keep me motivated. But I'm adapting it to suit my needs.

I have MS and post baby had a relapse which I'm still recovering from. But I'm pigging fed up feeling sorry for myself, looking at the mess.

So each day:
Kitchen surfaces cleaned
Living room decluttered before bed (move all baby stuff into one area once she in bed)
Pick one room/chore a day to unfuck. Starting with one 10min session and building on this as health improves.

So far today I've organised and put on wash. One in tumble drier and another one just in.

Bleach flung round toilet rim. Just need to go back and clean sink/toilet.

Anyone care to join me?

She's only 16 weeks so naps are very unreliable! Doing 20/10s is pretty perfect really because hopefully she stays asleep for at least 20 mins.

I'm going to try roping DH into us both doing a 20/10 a day to try keep on top of things I think.

DeathMetalMum · 14/09/2015 16:59

Well done on hell corner fudge. I have a few to many 'hell corners' here! Ithink I'm even more envious of the shoe storage if it fits walking shoes. Dd is getting on okay ish lots of tears last week as she was tired and thought she was missing too much at home, but always happy when we actually get there.

I'm feeling rather productive at the moment, I've done all of my extras for today and only forgot two things from the supermarket which is an achievement for me! Even hoovered upstairs and down. Dp is at home today though so I doubt I will get much done tomorrow bar the basics.

comeagainforbigfudge · 14/09/2015 20:00

Oops I did nothing on my list today except hospital
HOWEVER I did empty underwear drawer. Have put all the odd socks in a bag as I have a bad habit of wearing odd socks anyway. But I will get on top of washing again then resort said bag and throw the truly odd ones out!

Actually DD now in bed so think I'll change the filter before my dinner is ready Grin

Can I join in too? My areas to tackle are the laundry mountains and dirty dishes mountain. I'm just working on doing little bits here and there. Ideally I'd like to get the spare (junk) room sorted out as well. It's been a mess for 3 fucking years!!

My mantras are:

Rubbish goes in the bin
Dirty dishes go in the sink
Dirty washing in the washing basket
If you've finished using it, put it away!!!

I have four young kids who are awful. Get a snack, wrapper gets dropped on the floor. Spilt drinks. Forgotten ice lollies left to melt. Husband is also awful. He never puts anything away. They are my problem. I'm just as bad though. I need to whip everyone into shape and have fixed snack times rather than the constant grazing and mess.

Today I sorted out the bathroom. It looks great. I'm so pleased. I'm going to try and get the DS's room done before bedtime.

Tomorrow, the hall. So at least when I answer the door, people aren't greeted by the bomb site. I got started the other day but never got finished and all the school paperwork is piled up in there which needs sorting and I need to take the library books back.

RaspberryBlonde · 18/09/2015 08:11

Spectacularly fallen off the housework wagon here - too many other things going on and we were visiting family last weekend. So lots to get on top , not helped by me having to work Sunday. I will get a day in lieu but things are so busy no idea when I will take it, especially since I still have 16 days of holiday to take this year!

Jobs to do:

  • tackle the clean laundry pile and get it ironed or put away
  • sort DDs wardrobe and remove outgrown clothes so DH doesn't have an excuse for not getting her dressed! You should've seen the state of her last time, he managed to find a pair of trousers I had missed in my previous purge; they only came to her knees!
  • pay car tax
  • attempt a meal plan. DH was grumpy this week as I cooked (whisper it) a vegetarian dinner so am hoping advance warning will help
  • general cleaning of kitchen, bathrooms etc

Raining here so no outside stuff even though lots of blackberries in garden looking sad.

hebihebi · 18/09/2015 14:13

I have to say I love the UFYH blog. It just resonates so well with me and it's true, you can get a huge amount done in a short amount of time.

Today, I did a couple of loads in the dishwasher. Not as bad as it sounds as we only have a small tabletop dishwasher. But the kitchen looks a ton better for it.

I did not do the hall yet which is really embarrassing as DS's teacher dropped by with some homework for him as he is off school with bronchitis. It just looked awful. Dumping ground!!

I did attack the floordrobe in DD's room. I'm very pleased with that. Not finished but some is better than nothing. I'm now going to make a cup of tea and tackle the laundry mountain in DS's room.

I also paid some bills, got the car serviced, put my work commitments into my diary and had my first sugar-free day. I had a long chat with mum yesterday who said her diabetes is bad and the doc told her she needs to cut sugar right down, no sweets, no cakes, no chocolate. I am also a sugar addict so thought I'd have a go too. Hopefully lose some of the baby weight.

Anyway, cup of tea, laundry mountain.

Ps. my bathroom still looks fab Smile

comeagainforbigfudge · 18/09/2015 19:51

Hello hebi gosh you've done loads. Feel quite envious.

raspberry I've totally let things slide this week. Had loads on and I'm not quite sure where time has gone!

Today though I've hoovered, done two washes. One dried and put away. Other folded and ready to be hung out in morning Grin
Folded and put away a whole pile of clean clothes.
Emptied a box and sorted it's contents, binning as much as I could.

Found my address book! And have written half the cards. Now to do the rest and actually post them

OP posts:
RaspberryBlonde · 19/09/2015 07:05

Well done on sorting cards fudge, re bearing trying to do our baby cards with said baby tucked under my other arm!

Got all of the kitchen done including mopping floor yesterday, plus all the washing is sorted out. Going to get DH to iron as it is all his shirts and he has been saying he will do it for ages.

lostinabook · 19/09/2015 13:46

Finally... Finally wrestled playroom /conservatory into some sort of order by getting two more trofast units and shoving everything away!

Swapped shoe rack in hall for cupboard so clutter now hidden

Running a maintenance wash in washer and dishwasher

Given sinks a good spray/clean/flush

Pretty impressed with myself for a Saturday

Time for a sit and a cuppa?!

DeathMetalMum · 19/09/2015 17:12

Wow everyone has been productive! That is brilliant for that time on a Saturday lost, I hope you had a cuppa (or two!). I've done a few little bits here and there this week but nothing major apart from sorting out some paperwork. Have managed too keep on top of washing and the kitchen but I need to get better at putting away as I have had to put away probably 3 loads today.

Still got to iron dd's school uniform later. Dp and I decided to dig a new flower bed in the garden today completely unnecessary but it's tidied away the bulbs I bought in aldi earlier in the week.

hebihebi · 20/09/2015 01:19

It's great to hear that everyone is doing so well!

I'm trying to keep up the good work too. It's hard because I start a job, then I get distracted with another job and then get distracted with something else so lots of half finished jobs but if I keep at it then I will get there eventually.

I'm going to hang out the washing and then clean the toilet. I did a lot in the hall yesterday. It was really bad. Still plugging away at the other rooms. Bathroom is still lovely. It inspires me to keep going.

Ps. I'm in a different time zone.

comeagainforbigfudge · 20/09/2015 15:40

Well kind of productive couple of days.

Bed sheets changed (and old ones washed and dried!)
DD's changing unit tidied out, clothes all folded and too small ones put to side.
Two cabinets tops cleared and polished.

Plus we went swimming Grin

Not really much in the grand scheme but does look so much better Brew for me now I think.

OP posts:
LetThereBeCupcakes · 21/09/2015 07:28

Morning all!

Everybody's been so productive!

DS is all over the place with his naps now, and I've had an eye infection for a few days, so things slipped a bit. We had a good weekend though (DS being very untoddler like and actually helping!) so got quite a bit done - even made a big batch of salads for the week so I don't have to rush around in the morning before work sorting it out.

Finally got the forms filled in for our will too - looked at the date on the original letter and we've had it since November last year! Blush

Plan for today...

  • Walk dogs
  • Check through freezer and update meal plan
  • Clear off top off wardrobe.

Really need to do the wardrobe. It's full of stuff that needs to be packed up and put in the loft. I need the space to start storing Christmas Presents!

comeagainforbigfudge · 21/09/2015 10:01

OH sorted the "library" room last night. I've been fobbing it off as it's just a dumping ground. But we can now use it as a room Grin just a small pile of stuff to sort. But almost there.

I've made my bed this morning. And put a load on. Think I'll get dressed and take DD out in her pram. Think I'll go to a butchers and try them out. You know, support the local businesses then go to aldi just because it's on the way back

OP posts:
hebihebi · 21/09/2015 11:31

I'm still plodding away too. What often happens is that I'm doing really well and then bang it's back to being a tip again and I'm not sure what happened. So, I really want to keep it up this time and just keep doing a little bit every day.

The hall looks so much better. It's not 100% clean but it's getting there. I have large shelves for the kids school things and they are all clean and organised with their stuff ready. I've almost worked through the paperwork mountain. The living room is also slowly getting there. The stairs are still awful. It takes 10 minutes to wipe them down. That's top of my list for tomorrow. I'm folding laundry now. Will try and get the dishwasher on before bed too.

hebihebi · 21/09/2015 11:33

Ps. I'm in awe of you doing the library. I still haven't tackled my room that's just full of stuff dumped there. I was doing well, sorting a box every day but I haven't done anything in a while. Maybe I'll try and get started again once the rest of the house is a bit more decent.

Pobspits · 21/09/2015 11:38

Can I join you all?

Both my dc are now at school so house should be spotless ... It's not.

Downstairs is ok and can be 'visitor ready' in half an hour but upstairs is a mess especially our bedroom.

I've been ill for past 2 weeks so things have slipped and I need to rest to get better. Also I've just started a college course, I'm chair of the PTA, I volunteer in school and Ds has pretty intensive sports training he needs ferried around to most nights. Oh and Dh works away regularly. Dc are 8 and 5.

So anyways enough of the excuses .... Tonight I need to finish wrapping presents for dd and my niece and if possible sort paperwork for PTA.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 21/09/2015 11:48

Good lord pobs that's a lot of stuff you have to fit in! I only have one DS (toddler) but I'm pretty sure that even if he was in school 6 hours a day, and the house was spotless when he got home, it would take less than an hour for it to look like a bomb site again.

What's your course in?

Pobspits · 22/09/2015 07:30

Course is in maths - :(

Managed to wrap all presents last night but then realised Dh has managed to put 2 wrapped presents away somewhere and he can't remember where.....

Today I have to take some stuff to the charity shop, put washing away, find bloody presents and clean kitchen. I've loads of coursework to do and am volunteering at school too hence a not very long list!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 22/09/2015 08:11

I did an A Level in Maths. Failed dismally. In fact, I think I got the lowest score EVER in one of the modules .

I invited one of DS' friends and her Mum over after nursery yesterday on the spur of the moment. For the first time in a VERY long time the house was actually reasonable! All beds made, washing up all done, even had some cakes made. Feeling quite chuffed with myself (but also a bit panicked as this is the first time I've socialised with this Mum and now I'm worried she'll think I've ALWAYS got things up together...)

Pobs have you found the missing presents yet? I'm always doing stuff like that.

Plan for today:
Clean bathroom
Finish photobooks and send off
Book DS' swimming lessons

I think I need to start working on some of the DIY that needs doing. We have a wall in the living room with no wallpaper on, since it got a bit damaged putting in a radiator and I started peeling it off Blush. It wouldn't take much to fill the cracks and paint it so really should do that.

hebihebi · 22/09/2015 09:06

I fixed the hole in the living room wall today. It was one of those jobs that when I actually did it, it took around 15 minutes. I was tired today so didn't do so much. Just the laundry and washing up. I did brush the stairs. I think there was enough cat hair to make a whole new cat. I want to do some sewing tonight. I will see how I get on. My ironing pile is also huge.

Pobspits · 22/09/2015 09:26

No I haven't found them and I can't stand stuff like this - I NEED to know where they are!!!

comeagainforbigfudge · 22/09/2015 21:03

hebi I have a cupboard of hell. Boxes and, well, just stuff. It's one of those close the door and don't look type cupboards.
Today though I faced it and emptied four bags/boxes. Dumped a lot of crap.

Also sorted through some toiletries.
And two wee tubs of coppers have been counted. Not as much as I hoped there would be sadly Sad

Tomorrow I'm going to scrub the bathroom. It's not tooooooo bad. But a midweek scrub will do no harm Wink

Blooming heck pob when do you find time to sleep let alone tidy?!!

cupcakes get you!! You'll need to have her round again but make sure place isn't quite as tidy Wink

Right. I'm away to wash dishes avoid cracking open a toblerone

OP posts:
Pobspits · 22/09/2015 23:07

Found the presents thank goodness!!!!

Cleaned kitchen and put washing away but forgot about charity shop!

Been at school then college since 230 though and now house like a bombsite!

Plan for tomorrow :
Tidy kitchen table
Clean loo
Tidy lounge inc coffee table!
Sweep lounge and dining room
Clean dining room table
Wrap last present Id forgotten about
Go to shops for banner for dd's birthday and stuff to make cake.
If have sudden burst of energy do quick surface tidy of playroom (highly unlikely!!)

DeathMetalMum · 23/09/2015 16:52

Oh glad you found the presents Pobs! I've also got a few tubs of coppers hanging around that need sorting fudge they're right at the bottom of my list at the moment though. Oh what sewing are you doing hebi ? I have some pj's to take in at the waist for the dd's I might try and do it tonight whilst watching bake off.

I've done a few bits today also finding the 20/10s really good too. I've managed to clear a few serfaces in the living room that have become dumping grounds. Dp bought a new lamp I had talked about a few times today which helped as I had to make a space for it. I cleaned out the guinea pigs, and sorted half a bag to go to the charity shop - hopefully I can fill it later or tomorrow. Oh and a load of laundry washed and one put away - which makes a change!

Tasks for tomorrow -
Hoover
Bathroom - too many tasks it's generally clean but I need to sort out all the old and empty bottles etc as a starter I think.
