The Hoarders Anonymous Thread Part Two...Still Sorting It Out ~ Together!

Solo · 04/08/2015 01:01

Sorting out the home when you're a hoarder (big or small) is never going to be easy and we should know! but having someone else to support you, talk about it with you and make you feel much less of a freak of mother nature makes a huge difference!

If you are any of the following:
A hoarder. In a mess. Untidy. Disorganised. Lazy with housework that has lead to something that you now feel unable to deal with. If you are ill and not coping with the housework. If you are emotionally attached to items for whatever reason. If you have a combination of any or all of these things or something completely different, please join us. No one here will judge you. We have something in common and we have a common goal. We share our ideas and we share our disappointments no matter how big and our celebrations no matter how small.

Welcome to thread number 2! :)

Blush I love those hoarder programs too. I like to think I'm not that bad, but actually...I think I'm getting there :(

Me to solo. Watching the ones where their house rots away is scary. Where is that tipping point?

Solo · 18/09/2015 10:19

Well, I'm currently having a flat roof repaired and felt replaced. Perhaps it's starting for me!!

Not if your getting it replaced solo. If you'd topped over you would nailed a tarp over the ceiling.

Babieseverywhere · 18/09/2015 13:16

The good news is I cleared space to start my craft business in our room and today is my second work day (lunchtime atm) and I really enjoy having a dedicated craft space.

Sadly I still have boxes for the attic to move (once I have bought proper boxes for the stuff) and there is stuff in DS room which was pushed out of sight when we had visitors last weekend....so this weekend goals too clear both kids rooms out...wish me luck.

Four weeks until craft fair, arghh.

fuzzpig · 18/09/2015 13:56

Yay Babies well done on creating your space!

I have got nowhere, although the living room is kind of easier to maintain because of having pupils round which forces me to panic tidy more often. I know it will spiral if I'm not really careful though, and that's really worrying as I'm slipping back (in health terms) very fast... going onto next stage of absence management now.

I'm trying to be less black and white about the house though, I keep saying to myself we can't do this and that because the house is too messy and it's just paralysing, and unfair on the DCs now that we home ed and there's lots of things they want to do. So when DD asked to do painting the other day we DID. And incorporated it into our topic work on myths. Yesterday we sat at a messy table to discuss the circulatory system. Yes it would be better at a clear table but it's still an improvement IYSWIM.

TopOfTheCliff · 26/09/2015 00:18

Hello people! I think I may belong in here. I am a long term struggler with managing stuff, being a mildly OCD perfectionist. Living on my own I was managing okay BUT I have bought a house with a Hoarder from Hell who is the nicest kindest man but a nightmare for clutter. He has moved so much stuff into our house there is nowhere to put anything while I decorate or tidy.
Sometimes I come down stairs and look at the mess and just cry. Other days I feel strong and tackle a corner or fill the van for a tip trip or a charity shop run. Today I was 10 minutes too late for the Red Cross shop. So my car is full up.

Solo · 26/09/2015 01:36

Fuzz :( hope you feel better soon. I know though. I know. :(

TOTC welcome. I'll be back soon, but do join us Flowers

Sofas look okay, not sure about the colour but for free they are a great improvement comfort-wise on my old one. Only problem at the moment is the smell - they've been in storage for a while!!

I dont think the appointment went too well, but have another one to go yet anyway. Imo my mum was exactly as expected, didnt remember things that i remembered from childhood and seemed very keen to say that all of my chldhood was utterly normal and not worth comment

Th kids have friends coming over latrr, so all of tomorrows tidying will be fixing the mess from today...!!

Solo · 27/09/2015 01:02

Sorry about your mum :( it's probably what she would have liked to be true.

Are the sofas fabric? if so, buy some bicarbonate of soda, sprinkle liberally all over them and leave for as many hours as you can then vacuum it all off.

OP posts:
iamaboveandBeyond · 27/09/2015 10:34

Nah, leather. I've sprayed them down and hav scented candles burning, i know it'll take a while for thm to lose the smell though. Or i'll just get used to it and stop noticing Grin

Solo · 27/09/2015 10:56

Bummer!

It is great to read of people's plans and ambitions to make things better.

I rashly announced we would have a BBQ for DP this weekend. So with a massive effort the dining room got cleared and all the excess clutter got hidden away. It looked great for a day! Now it is creeping back out again.

The trouble is I am out at work all day while he is at home pottering and doing DIY and making snacks. By the time I get home the place is a mess. But he has made me supper and worked hard all day on the house.

Hello Cherry and TOTC :)
Cherry you sound just like me! and TOTC there is no way I could get sorted enough to have people round! so you must be doing something right!!

I've just spent 4 hours helping a friend deal with head lice in her two afro haired Dd's. Oh. My. God!!! I'm so glad my own Dd only has long curls; it could have been so different with her heritage though, so I count my blessings! I'm exhausted too.
Catch up properly soon Thanks
