The Hoarders Anonymous Thread Part Two...Still Sorting It Out ~ Together!

Sorting out the home when you're a hoarder (big or small) is never going to be easy and we should know! but having someone else to support you, talk about it with you and make you feel much less of a freak of mother nature makes a huge difference!

If you are any of the following:
A hoarder. In a mess. Untidy. Disorganised. Lazy with housework that has lead to something that you now feel unable to deal with. If you are ill and not coping with the housework. If you are emotionally attached to items for whatever reason. If you have a combination of any or all of these things or something completely different, please join us. No one here will judge you. We have something in common and we have a common goal. We share our ideas and we share our disappointments no matter how big and our celebrations no matter how small.

Welcome to thread number 2! :)

(((Hugs))) back including iam (sorry, try and side step)

TBH been worried will not change the results and I have been living with this for 8 years since I had my gall bladder out. It us just the attacks are getting worse, last longer and the gaps between where I was well have dissapeared.

TBH it is the children I feel for as we can't often go to local park or anywhere else without toilets....it is very tying.

Solo I can see the perfection thing in myself...I am so paralysed that I won't do something properly, that I can't start it at all !

My way around this is to set myself a target, think about it loads until I can face the potential failure. Then I have to mega research everything, get the right tools for the job. Write down steps before I do it and amend them if needed.

I have lists for everything and the correct order to do things.

Then I will do a new job/chore. Once I get started the panic usually subsides but boy is it hard get going on a new project....not mean on change or new things to much too worry about.

Solo · 06/09/2015 12:44

It does sound tying Babies :( I know people with IBS and or continence issues that mean they are always worrying about toilets etc. I feel for all of them and you too.

Babies, have you had a gynae assessment? I get both passive and urge incontinence (ah the joys of an anonymous account!!), it is caused by my internal prolapses (rectocele and cystocele). Nothing is visibly wrong to me, and it was missed by the first gynae i saw too, so i wonder if it is a possibility? Flowers i was having trouble with blood at one point, turns out the dodgy insides were making me more prone to internal piles when i was constipated. I have ibs too and since i've cut out grains on a lchf diet, my constipation (and ibs in general) has been completed 'cured'.

The second bit of your post i relate to sooo much, i am very much a list writer!

Babieseverywhere · 06/09/2015 22:01

That is where I have been referred too already. I am just worried why this last result means the doctor needs to see me straight away when I have already been referred. :( Hopefully it is just routine.

fuzzpig · 07/09/2015 11:38

Big hugs, Babies - that sounds horrible. I really hope you get some answers and help ASAP, it's miserable having to worry about stuff like that all the time. I only occasionally have issues with that (related to other health issues) and it makes me realise how generally I take it (ie not having to worry) for granted.

Haven't been on here much and things have stagnated. We've had our weekend away now though (family wedding - was lovely) so back to it. Sorry I've not been giving any support lately :(

Big news elsewhere - I may finally have a chance of some proper psychological help. I have got a form that if my doctor agrees to fill in (should be ok if I see the right one) I will be referred to an adult autism specialist! It's going to be complicated (due to history of abuse and stuff) but if I can just get this one piece of the puzzle sorted (ie determine if I am on the spectrum or not) I can start moving forward and at least have one definitive diagnosis. I am pretty sure the psychiatrist was right before when he suggested OCD as well but that is often comorbid with ASCs (it's just that when I saw him, he refused to believe that the issues were caused by anything other than the abuse - even though I know I had these issues before that...). Anyway, apparently this person will even come to do the assessment here if I can't get childcare etc, so it might be really helpful if she can see the chaos! Although it will be less chaotic hopefully as we are starting to try and maintain some level of tidiness so that I can have more piano pupils here.

Right, off to do some laundry, that'll be a good start at least.

iamaboveandBeyond · 07/09/2015 14:56

Well i've done one thing today, i have (provisionally - awaiting collection) gotten rid of a desk. DH is stropping, he thinks we do need three Hmm

Eeeek Polter (and thank you Thanks) best of luck with yours! Sorry if it's already been mentioned - haven't caught up with thread yet - but would it help to write a list (yay, lists!) of all the things you have issues with? I guess the assessor will ask questions to draw out all the relevant info, but if you're anything like me you'll forget important little details that add up to make the whole picture.

Felt absolutely fine at work until about 6pm when I suddenly crashed, am now in epic pain so I don't think I'll be getting anything done tomorrow except a little laundry perhaps. Family Support Worker visiting in the morning, maybe I'll send the kids upstairs so I can cry at her a bit Blush

iamaboveandBeyond · 08/09/2015 07:41

I have the complete guide to aspergers (tony atwood) and im making notes ready for my assessment from that Blush

Desk has gone. Stuff that was on desk is now in a pile in the corner though Hmm

fuzzpig · 08/09/2015 14:02

Beyond that's a fab idea! I'll have a look at some books in the library. Apparently I'll have some questionnaires to fill in as well.

When I first approached the dr about this I listed all the issues I had and then rearranged them into categories in the 'triad of impairment' which worked well although apparently that diagnostic tool has now changed too since they've decided to call everything an ASC rather than HFA, Aspergers etc. Confusing!

Various updates

Dr told me that they have practically ruled out IBS with my last results and we are looking at one of the IBD (crones, colitis etc) let's hope not...but whatever will be, will be.

She said she didn't know how I have been coping...like I have a choice. She said it is very unusual to have several clear blood tests but to have such a bad stool result...oh well. So no change just cope and wait for November's appointment.

CAHMS appointment was nice....Dr said I was on the right track with my parenting. Just that some kids need more help than others. I have a ladder reward chart to try with DS to see if we can get him going to the toilet on his own...wish me luck.

Hearing wise I now have a loop on my hearing aid (not that I can get it on or off. Need practice...lol) I should be able to get a box which allows me t hear the tv much better. ..yippee.

House wise...We are mainly floating except kids room. Tomorrow is kids room day.

Anyway I have to get going, to collect my youngest to see how her first day at nursery went..I have missed her

Oh bugger, Babies, how annoying that they are looking at those illnesses :( I read up about some of those when DH was having investigations, they sound flipping horrible. Fingers crossed it's something that can be helped quickly with treatment.

Floating with the house here too, quick panic tidy downstairs again (new pupil visiting) and it was surprisingly quick to get it vaguely presentable. Really REALLY need to keep the momentum going though because the boxes/bags of random crap (from the previous panic tidy last week) will just breed and spread again if I don't.

Work was just about manageable today though so I struggled through it (rather than leaving early, which I was actually planning on doing based on how I've felt since Monday) and I am suffering for it now, so not sure how much I'll be able to do.

Totally get you about the vicious cycle PG I am a veteran of it Thanks

Solo · 09/09/2015 23:26

Oh gosh! poor Babies :( hope it's a simpler fix than it could be if that makes sense.

I'm not floating. I must do better.

OP posts:
2boysnamedR · 09/09/2015 23:49

No floating here, just drowning. I'm dispearing into my hoard. It's eating me alive. It's definatly a comfort for me ( how ironic!)

Eating lots of craply foods too. Start of term new schools, asd pre school, tribunal looming.

Babies that sounds horrendous. I take too much for granted.

Been watching that OCD thing on channel four. Oh dear, I can relate a bit too well with the messy people. My house would give the ones on the show a run for their money!

They are looking for people for the next series. I would love a OCD cleaner in! That would be the fourth soul I would have destroyed! Most leave weeping while I clutchy dusty tat saying " that is staying! That's staying!! It's all STAYING!!!!" Then trip over and curse it when they go.....

fuzzpig · 10/09/2015 09:07

I love that show, watched it all on 4od recently. Is the one last night the first in the new series?

2boysnamedR · 10/09/2015 09:37

Not sure? I have series linked it. I love the hoarding shows to. Makes me look positively house proud!

Solo · 11/09/2015 00:23

I can see a little of my kitchen floor!! more to do tomorrow I hope.
Laptop is dying, so hope to post again soon. Keep up the good work everyone!

I am hoping that my feral phase has passed. Dh has sorted our eldest sons room out. He was sharing but now has his own freshly painted room with only his stuff in. I even made curtains! (Well, the other of the pair needs finishing).

All the junk is on the floor of the little ones room which maybe is for the best as seeing it like that makes me realise that some of it has to go (charity / dump) now as theres too much piled up

Babieseverywhere · 16/09/2015 07:39

Just popping up to say hello....how us everyone doing ?

iamaboveandBeyond · 16/09/2015 09:07

My living room is empty Grin
Got rid of sofa (bhf are selling it for over £200! Shock ) and have to wait a week or so for my new one so used that time to sort and paint the room :) only thing that still needs doing in here is sorting the sideboard.

Today DH and I are going to sort the box room. Tonnes of stuff on the bed but we have a friend visiting this weekend so need to get it cleared asap.

Solo · 17/09/2015 00:21

Wow! you put me to shame! but I have not even been here much this week; so much to do elsewhere and it promises to be much the same this week and next too.

OP posts:
2boysnamedR · 17/09/2015 01:42

am - omg! The thought of a empty living room makes my blood run cold!

I am watching one hoarding program every night before I go to bed. I'm addicted to hoarding! I have to watch other people hoard ( like a hoarding type of dogging pmsl!)

I would still like CBT but with that in mind I realise I like to bury myself in chaos when I'm stressed, like a rabbit down a hole. It's a weird comfort that actually is counterproductive.

Made up some bags for refugee kids which was a fast fair well to about 100 things, nct sale coming up so aim to get rid of 200 more things there.

It's never enough. If I threw out 1000 things you would never notice.

Was watching through the keyhole yesterday and Keith lemon was describing Bill Odie as a "hoarder of crap" I had to laugh. Might add that to my linked in profile Grin

iamaboveandBeyond · 17/09/2015 07:19

I obsess about it Blush do nothing for literally years then start and cant stop. Box room bed is mostly clear, but have two boxes of paperwork to shred. We've decided to get rid of all bank statements etc, just keep things that are essential and unprintable (dwp stuff etc)

Sister took baby wardrobe yesterday (it matches the cot that i have already given her), so we are off to ikea to get a new one today.
