August Birthdays and the Fledglings are a nattering

DarkEvilMoon · 01/08/2015 00:29

Ok so here is the August thread.

Another chat thread.

Going to be completely half arsed with this.

launch pad from here is all the linky poos which few of us look at anyway
But we are following Fly lady principles. sort of 15 mins decluttering, babysteps and all that.

Oh we are a long running thread, we may seem clicky but we have been around the wrong side of half a decade. We do welcome newbies, and some of the flock joined us only recently.

If you have any questions on the fly lady system do ask and we will try to answer them. Hopefully back to normal service and regular linkies in September after the hols.

So nerh...

usually we have a much more structured thread with daily links etc, but we're all having the summer off!

DEM sounds horrendous. Here: Brew

Big wing flaps to Blue WhoKnows Toffee Honu Bless Dogs Castle Engles Mercury SC and all other fledglings I'm sorry I missed off the list.

I've had a productive sort of day:

Dishwasher x2
Beds made x2
Washing on and hung up x2
Cats fed x2
Nursery drop off and pick up
Some bits taken to the dry cleaners
Glass taken to recycling
Booking keeping for the family business
eBay parcels wrapped and taken to post office
two hour stroll round the local country side with DH finding five geocaches en route.

To do:
DS bath and bed
Flop on sofa with reading book

DarkEvilMoon · 10/08/2015 19:58

From sink height down the bathroom is blinding shiny. I haven't hoovered the hall/landing/stairs or cleaned it. But I really don't have an energy left for it. So I am going to pop to the corner shop and get some chocolate before sinking into a hot bath and be the first one to use the clean bathroom. Grin

grey you sound like you have had a busy day too but have been more sensible with fun stuff also on ta da list

Obrigada meant to say, my lists are known to be scary can should be ignored and are more to motivate me than anything else. Don't let them put you off. they are not strictly the fly lady mindset and i tend to burn out

OP posts:
threeislovely · 10/08/2015 21:50

Evening!

Hello to Obrigada, hope the dust is better now DEM and I'm not sure how I managed 7 loads of washing Toffee - it spiralled from the beach week - 3 loads of beach washing, towels from the bathroom and our normal 3 loads as we spent lots of evenings at the beach till late rather than coming home and washing!

I've had a good day today - took the kids out for a lovely day and then got home about 5.

Ta das
Folded all the stuff that was now dry and delegated it to be put away.

Made soup for tea
Workout
DH pruned the front garden.

Cleared kitchen side
3 major work jobs that were really boring so I had been putting them off

It looks amazing and I feel great - win, win!

Shannaratiger · 11/08/2015 07:33

Morning all

Quick hello so noone thinks I've forgotten you.
Been on holiday holiday, nice week at Haven Devon Cliffs. Managed to have caught up on washing and put everything away by next day. Just waiting on DH to put cases away - not going to keep nagging although might drop general family hints that I need to hoover and therefore need to be able to see the floors. Hmm
Am now going to catch up on everything I've missed.

Back later, have a great day.

Greymalkin · 11/08/2015 09:51

Morning everyone, the Grey household is rather slow moving today and we plan to just drift along...

Ta da:
Small lie in as DH got up with DS this morning
Cats fed
Folded and mostly put away dry laundry
Another wash load on
One bed made

To do
Take DS out somewhere
Sort through DSs clothes to weed out outgrown stuff
Try to declutter some stuff to the charity shop
Maybe some business paperwork filing. Maybe.

DarkEvilMoon · 11/08/2015 11:47

Morning.

Moving this morning is proving somewhat impossible The trade off for yesterday's activity to aid breathing. Breathing thankfully is fine and dust levels are lower.

Small plan today:
get out of the house
lego
uniform
iron and cut material having drawn pattern on piece

OP posts:
threeislovely · 11/08/2015 16:12

Afternoon everyone.

Ta Das
Long walk and catch up with friends
Empty and reload dishwasher
Clean up after naughty cats!
Sort washing - put away
Reload laundry
Tidy hall
Clear chest of drawers in my room

To Dos
Proof read work
Take nail varnish off proving more challenging than you might think!
Declutter bookshelf in my room
Finish project obv on MN to avoid this task!

threeislovely · 12/08/2015 13:44

Well, after a lazy start, we are getting sorted today!

Ta Das

Washing up
Drop DS at friends

Tidy kitchen

Declutter bedroom
Find a place for books that are being rehomed!

To Dos

Hoover bedroom
Sort out smell in utility room
Organise games cupboard

Hmmm... slightly lacking in motivation to begin, although this is the last major list - then the house will be reorganised and ready to re-paint the hall and boys' room.

DarkEvilMoon · 12/08/2015 19:12

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2015 22:19

Having a fairly relaxing (compared to term time) week this week, I'm working during the daytimes and DH during the evenings as we are having a few problems with childcare. I come home at 4 and off goes DH. The evenings are more relaxing because there are no Brownies, Scouts, drama, sports clubs to go to, I love that my DCs enjoy all these things, but it really does cut into the available time for the simple things like cooking and just generally hanging out together.

So, despite no dashing out to clubs in the evenings, the house isn't looking great. DH has been keeping things ticking over with laundry, cutting the grass etc, but clutter has definitely crept back in. I'm at home on Friday but want to take the DCs out for new school shoes (half an hour drive to shop) and have been invited to a friend's for coffee. Oh well, decluttering might have to wait for the weekend.

fuzzpig · 13/08/2015 09:30

Well I've totally fallen off the Flying wagon! Blush Have done sod all. Yep, I burned out.

My parents are coming up again today and I have no idea if we will actually manage to achieve anything, I really don't want them to waste their time but OMG I am so worn out. I've gone past the worst of the pain in this relapse thankfully and I'm going back to work on Monday which I'm totally dreading so wary of overdoing it yet again.

Still, on a more positive note, I have done a lot more typing (the writer is very pleased with the progress I've made) and the cupboards/drawers I did organise have stayed that way. Which in the kitchen makes an especially big difference.

DarkEvilMoon · 13/08/2015 10:02

fuzzpig Is there something decluttering wise that requires sitting on one's ass sorting rather than heaving out heavy stuff and lots of moving. thinks of the bathtub filing system Blush. Good luck with returning to work and remember you have done nothing wrong, don't worry and go in with prepped answers to possible awkward answers. You can do this!

Mn has gone crazy. Those who have been away have missed the messed up colours for highlighting, the trending nonsense, and the hacker. So if you have had no official communication, HQ have recommended that we change our passwords. but that post got edited several times by the hacker Outages have been regular too this summer.

Whoknows good luck getting everything you need done done.

OP posts:
threeislovely · 13/08/2015 10:44

Hope you have a good time with your parents Fuzzpig. Whoknows I am also really enjoying not having to have military precision in the evening.

We have a nice chilled day today - off to pick up one of the DCs friends in a minute, which hopefully will give me time to sort some work out and finish sorting the next pile of junk which must leave my house by tomorrow!

To Dos
Recycling
Reorganise craft stuff
Hoover bedroom
Organise games cupboard
Workout
Sort work stuff to go back to work!
Put books in some sort of carrier to take away
Sort out junk in hall - put in bag for charity shop
Online food shop
Print next module of course
Organise desk area

Take kids swimming

This may be a pipe dream... But at least I will have polish ready for other people to clean tomorrow!!

fuzzpig · 13/08/2015 20:57

Thanks folks, I managed a little in the time around lunch out which Dad suggested - lots of unrehomable stuff about now, but did get some bits and pieces sorted. Felt very tired all day and demotivated but pleased some bits got done.

threeislovely · 13/08/2015 21:30

Well done Fuzz - glad you're feeling pleased.

I'm shattered - we swam for hours!! Then cooked DH a massive meal with cake for pudding - making up for going out lots with friends this week ;)

Ta Das
Sort work stuff to go back to work!

Deal with car emergencies
Three washes and drying

DarkEvilMoon · 13/08/2015 22:03

I have been suffering from the hike yesterday. Ds and I have mostly spent today talking. Progress and understanding seems to be being made slowly. It is nice. Hard earnt but nice.

OP posts:
Greymalkin · 14/08/2015 10:44

Three and DEM good going on the all the exercise, I wish I had your motivation.

Fuzz any progress no matter how much is good

WhoKnows hope you enjoy that coffee out today

I'm still Kondoing our clothing here, going to try to do DHs with him today

DarkEvilMoon · 14/08/2015 19:02

We still live with the theory that boys are like dogs and require exercising daily. I cba to do that and in fact today it has been a pj day. I really want to just crawl into bed. Ds, otoh, is desperate to go out and exercise. This weather has given me a headache and I am tired because the lack of sleep meds is really starting to show now and he is happily slipping back into a less than 6hr sleep pattern. :(

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/08/2015 22:13

Evening all,

Well, made quite a lot of headway with the decluttering today after all. I've been chipping away at it downstairs all week, and decided to bite the bullet upstairs today. So, using my tried and tested technique of sorting on my bed with about 7 of those big flexible trug tub things I am at the "looks worse before it's better" stage, but definitely feel progress has been made. Have one tub full of stuff for the charity stuff, one tub full gone in the bin and three carrier bags of books for the charity shop. Other than that, coffee with friends was nice this afternoon, and this morning I took DD to a trial piano lesson. Do you remember I was in a dilemma about keeping her in the crap school keyboard lessons which she loves or sending her to private lessons with a highly recommended teacher? Well, I had been thinking she could maybe do both, but the piano teacher said that wouldn't be a good idea but to have a trial with her anyway. I thought it went really well (I stayed) but DD is adamant she ony wants to do the school ones. So that decision is made.

DEM - has the humidity been bad with you today? It was awful here this morning, got better as the day went on and is quite cool feeling now thank goodness.

Grey - talking of exercise, I started using a Fitbit about Feb and have been fairly easily managing around 12000 steps a day in term time. I am horrified at how little walking I have done in the holidays, averaging less than 3000, today has only been about 1500, quite a shocking change. We just don't need to walk anywhere like we do in term time, no school, no Scouts, Brownies etc, all the clubs the DCs have been doing are too far to walk and I've been dropping them off on the way to work. My ballet and pilates classes are term time only too.

MrsJorahMormont · 14/08/2015 23:01

Hello can I join please? I got the Flylady book as she seems quite kind to clutterbugs like me. Off to bed but more tomorrow Smile

DarkEvilMoon · 14/08/2015 23:40

Welcome MrsJ

whoknows sounds like a productive day. Weather not humid, more cloudy and needs to thunder kinda heavy. Not thunderstorm but it is still a bit on the heavy side. Have had proper rain bursts periodically today though, to the point where there has been flooding in soon areas not to far from here.

Child has been suitably exercised. I have created a monster though as he enjoyed it rather to much Hmm so i guess that means we will be doing that again then I am ready for bed, child is happily chilling out and winding down with some tv.

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 05:27

Just caught up with thread, sounds like there is a fair bit of decluttering going on despite the holidays. Red poo and other associated stories did make me laugh, the things I have to look forward to I guess!

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 05:30

I've realised that my last post makes me look a bit bonkers as I didn't explain that I was currently in the rocking feeding chair at the time, so it looks a bit random Blush

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 05:35

Last time I posted that Meerkitten had dropped off the bottom of the weight chart so I was told to top up feeds with more formula. She managed to get back on the chart in one week which was great and last week she was even slightly above the bottom line so she is doing well.

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 05:38

Anyway I'm going to continue going for weekly weigh ins for a few weeks until we're sure her weight is stable and then see about gradually reducing formula feeds and just see how it goes.
