Ok so here is the August thread.

Another chat thread.

Going to be completely half arsed with this.

launch pad from here is all the linky poos which few of us look at anyway
But we are following Fly lady principles. sort of 15 mins decluttering, babysteps and all that.

Oh we are a long running thread, we may seem clicky but we have been around the wrong side of half a decade. We do welcome newbies, and some of the flock joined us only recently.

If you have any questions on the fly lady system do ask and we will try to answer them. Hopefully back to normal service and regular linkies in September after the hols.

So nerh...

I'm posting every couple of sentences because between my phone and it's random antics and the demented Meerkitten on my boob I would lose what I'd written otherwise! Meerkitten has now finished feeding and is just resting on my chest with her head tucked into my neck, so it may be easier to type now.

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 05:53

Distinct lack of flying here as you can imagine, Meerkitten is eleven weeks today. Looking after Meerkitten definitely feels a lot easier now and feeding is easier so I'm getting a bit more sleep but Meerkitten is definitely not on board with letting me get on with any housework! I realised I'd lost it a bit when I was talking to friend and said that I was literally fantasising about washing the bathroom floor. I don't even think I realised what a mental thing that was to say until she burst out laughing.

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 06:00

There should definitely have been a Blush after that last sentence! It's official, I have completely lost the plot Blush

The weird thing is that I'm not even naturally a clean and tidy person but I've been so successful with flylady that it's been hard to see it all go to he'll. I think I have been slowly making my peace with it though, I don't really have a choice do I?!

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 06:05

Actually DP took Meerkitten out last weekend for what he called his first solo mission as he wanted to see if he could do it so last Saturday I got to spend a couple of hours cleaning and I'm embarrassed to admit that it was absolute heaven, practically orgasmic. Yes, I have gone completely and utter bonkers Blush

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 06:11

While I'm confessing about my shameful cleaning fantasies I might as well continue..... DP is talking about taking Meerkitten out on his own again today which means I could do a bit more cleaning. I can feel my pulse quicken at the thought of getting to clean out the other fridge (cleaned the first one last Saturday) and wash the kitchen/dining floor... Ecstatic sigh.... Blush

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 06:20

Must snap out of cleaning fantasies....

On a less mental note I'm meeting up for regular walks with my friend with breast cancer which I think is really good for both of us for different reasons and I wouldn't have time to meet weekly if I hadn't had Meerkitten so in a weird way our needs are dovetailing, it's good exercise for me and a good distraction/company for her. It's also been a lovely Summer so it's been great to get out in it.

Dogsbumhair · 15/08/2015 06:26

It feels really good to check in with you all and so hard to get the chance to check in so I apologise for it being such a long post. Just getting my fix as who knows when my next opportunity will come....

Much love and wing flaps to you all Smile

Lovely to hear about MeerKitten doing so well. I too had cleaning fantasies when my children were small. I used to drop DS2 off with a local childminder for a couple of hours once a week, come home and clean the bathroom. Seems ridiculous now, but I found it really therapeutic to be able to clean without interruption.

Grey - eugh to the nappy incident. I remember those days. Yes, definitely counts as Flying. Actually, yesterday there was a rather unpleasant poo spillage on our loo which I had to clean up. After fierce denials from everyone (including DH Grin), we realised it must have been DS2's playmate.

Sorry to have been AWOL this week. DH and I haven't been feeling well and finally realised it must be a virus. Unfortunately, a rare day out together was spoilt by both feeling achey, tired and generally miserable. When the boys started complaining of feeling the same way, we decided it must be some kind of illlness, although it never turned into anything specific.

However, we did manage to get out to see the meteor showers on Wednesday night, which was wonderful.

Flying has gone to pot. Have had neither the energy, nor the inclination Blush.

DarkEvilMoon · 15/08/2015 10:30

lovely to 'see' you dogsbum glad the meerkitten is doing well. Grin at your dreams of cleaning. Are you in the south/abroad? weather has been pretty shocking this summer for us. Odd good days but mostly real heavy rain showers/grey and miserable. Envy

I hope you are all feeling better now Toffee

Hate to break it to you Grey but if you are geocaching then aren't you doing some walking to get to it. That would count as exercise Grin The clearing up definitely counts as flying!

To do list

ds is not sleeping well and me staying up with him is not working because i just can't function the next day. Toffeewhirl · 15/08/2015 11:18

DS1 is staying up till all hours as well, DEM, and I also just have to take myself off to bed otherwise I can't function the next day. Not looking forward to trying to get him to bed at a sensible time every school night.

DarkEvilMoon · 15/08/2015 11:28

ds went to bed at 1am and handed me a cup of coffee at 6am asking me to join him as it was such a lovely morning Hmm He is on a melatonin break until september but his doc would like permenantly I want to tell him where he can shove that plan. Ds is sooo adhd in behaviour atm it is driving me potty.

threeislovely · 15/08/2015 19:08

Hi everyone,

Very lovely to hear how well Meerkitten is doing. Glad you had a nice holiday Ellie and hope you are feeling better Toffee.

We're having a lazy day today following a productive day yesterday. We did family cleaning time again and got the whole house clean in less than 40 mins. DD did use nearly a whole can of polish though!! After a little direction, she seems to be more efficient! But it is nice to have a clean house again - all the cobwebs seem to have gone which is great!!

Today I posted lots of things and was fairly successful in selling. It's nice to have got rid of some large furniture. You can finally walk into our hall without tripping over junk. Got a huge new rug delivered (massive bargain too!) so the lounge now looks like I have pictured for three years. Also managed to finish the conservatory off too, so feeling quite smug until DH cooked and trashed the kitchen!! Wondering whether to go and tidy or just hide on the sofa on MN until he does it!

Ta Das
Workout
Long walk with kids
Washing
Drying
Clothes away
Sold pile of junk
Recycling
Trimmed edge of grass

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/08/2015 23:16

Well done Three, what a good day.

Welcome back Dogs, glad Meerkitten is gaining weight better now, you made me laugh with your burning desire to do housework, I remember bring obsessed with cleaning the bathroom after DS was born (long before I'd ever heard of Flylady).

Welcome to MrsJ, I find the Flylady book quite inspiring, even if the style is a bit gushing.

Well, ta-da!

I carried on with yesterday's decluttering. Thousands of pieces of lego, Moshlings, games parts, books, bits of paper have been sorted, put away or thrown away. The whole upstairs is clean and tidy for the first time in living memory quite a while. I'm in bed with sheets that were line dried today and smell fresh and lovely.

Flylady is so right about the effect of untidiness on your mental health. While downstairs is fairly under control for the most part here, upstairs had really slipped badly the last few months, piles of stuff everywhere. I would have been utterly ashamed to let anyone see it 48 hours ago. Now it feels like a weight off my shoulders.

Toffeewhirl · 16/08/2015 07:53

Well done, Who! Enjoy your tidy house. I agree with you about the effect on mental health. It really gets me down when my house gets too untidy.

three - your family cleaning time is a great idea. Sounds like you're going to need to invest in a multi-pack of polish, though Grin.

ellie - welcome home. Glad to hear you had a lovely, sunny holiday.

MrsJ - welcome to the thread. Most of us struggle with clutter here, so we feel your pain.

Am currently enjoying absolute peace, as everyone is asleep, cats are fed and quiet and the street is silent outside too Smile. Long may it last!

Greymalkin · 16/08/2015 09:25

Morning everyone,

Glad you had a good break Ellie

DEM and Toffee sounds like a 'mare having your DC up til ungodly hours. Silly question, but why would being on sleep mess full time be a bad thing?

WhoKnows and Three you two have been productive, that's great. I totally get the link between external mess and chaos with internal/emotional unsettledness. I feel such a sense of calm when my surroundings are ordered and clear.

That said, virtually no flying happening here. We did go on a lovely country walk yesterday and found give geocaches! So I admit I am getting some exercise!

Toffeewhirl · 16/08/2015 10:34

I think some people think a break from the meds is meant to make them more effective, Grey, but nobody's told me to do that, so I'm just carrying on with them for DS1. He doesn't want to take them every night in the holidays, though, and that's fine with me. It will be different when he goes back to school.

Country walk sounds lovely. We have also had some lovely walks with our boys this summer.

Toffeewhirl · 16/08/2015 10:36

DS2's non-stop chat and singing is finally driving me out of the sitting room, so now I shall have to get off my arse and do some Flying. Plenty to do.

CantSee4Looking · 16/08/2015 11:35

Actually it is more serious than that toffee The sleeps meds do wear off effectiveness. The 1 hit melatonin can be increased in dose (and tbh can remember the side effects for that one as it has been so long since ds had it btwn ages of 4 1/2 - 7 ) The slow release med is not clear for use in children but can be prescribed off liscence in a case by case situation as it has been recognised by NICE that it is off benefit to the u18s. However, there have been insufficient trials into the long term use and there is a proven risk of delay of puberty and believed to be a risk of other hormone imbalances. It is only really cleared for short term use (up to sort of 6 months) and it not considered a long term solution. Which is why ds' pead wants him off it. Unfortunately for ds that means return to the night terrors, sleep walking and being so tired he comes across as very ADHD. Which is why we are reluctant to do so, in addition to the fact that lack of sleep in ds has given me serious health issues due to lack of sleep, which despite him being back on the melatonin nearly 3 years I have not been able to recover from. Ds has been on sleep meds more of his life than he has been off them, so for him the complications could be high, but the benefit it has still outweighs the disadvantage imo atm. Will need reassessing as he gets older but for now I will be stubborn with his pead.

CantSee4Looking · 16/08/2015 12:12

Although the extended break will hopefully give his body a break from some of the potential side effects when not sleeping matter less (in the summer)

CantSee4Looking · 16/08/2015 12:21

Sorry i forgot tis I, the name changing one.

elliepac · 16/08/2015 12:31

Morning all.

Productive day underway here. For a start I have got dressed and left the house which is an improvement on yesterdayGrin.

Done a food shop and purchased ds's birthday presents for next weekend so feeling like i have achieved something. Washing from holiday done not to tackle bedrooms. I may be some time.

CantSee4Looking · 16/08/2015 13:05

Now careful Ellie you don't want to burn yourself out or anything
