August Birthdays and the Fledglings are a nattering

DarkEvilMoon · 01/08/2015 00:29

Ok so here is the August thread.

Another chat thread.

Going to be completely half arsed with this.

launch pad from here is all the linky poos which few of us look at anyway
But we are following Fly lady principles. sort of 15 mins decluttering, babysteps and all that.

Oh we are a long running thread, we may seem clicky but we have been around the wrong side of half a decade. We do welcome newbies, and some of the flock joined us only recently.

If you have any questions on the fly lady system do ask and we will try to answer them. Hopefully back to normal service and regular linkies in September after the hols.

So nerh...

Is it safe to come back on here? Bit nervous about the whole hacking malarkey. You didn't scare me off Grin

ellie wow it's been longer than I thought that I've been on here. What a time you've had. You do sound very happy now which is so lovely. FlowersSmile

toffee how is the school shopping going? My list is manic this year so I sympathise. Dd starts reception, ds2 is moving up to middle school so they both need completely new uniforms. To top it off the middle school are changing the uniform entirely so ds1 also needs everything brand new, so no hand me downs for ds2 and an empty purse for me. Sad I've bought almost everything though so feeling organised.

Waves to everyone blue whoknows fuzzpig nettie grey carpe astimegoesby and everyone else.

I'm sorry I'm rubbish at posting long posts on my phone (no laptop at the moment).

Quick to do list

Order new sofas (eek!)
Meet long lost family (?)
Pull more camping bits together
Get car cleaned
Check bank balance
Buy gardening gloves
Pack away more toys
Dd to tidy her hell hole bedroom

AsTimeGoesBy · 21/08/2015 08:58

I'm here (am a regular, look closely at the name, who knows how I thought that one up). Nick, time really does "Fly" on here, it only seems like 5 minutes since you had your skip. That is very annoying about the school uniform change.

NickNacks · 21/08/2015 09:28

Ooooh! Sorry! I'm a bit slow with things like that...

Sadly you would never know the skip had even visited right now. Clutter has returned and I'm gutted i couldn't keep it up. We worked so hard at the time but as we all know it's difficult to keep up on.

Nettietiedupinspagetti · 21/08/2015 10:18

threeislovely · 21/08/2015 12:37

knittingwithnettles · 21/08/2015 18:27

hello, I've name changed, but you might have to think about some fairytales to do with large white birds to guess who I am..

anyway..apparently doing the above is perfectly feasible..along with grinding chestnuts into flour etc..

waves to Toffee Dem that was and Time and everyone else too including a very long absent Nettie and Nick!

I'm lying in bed, recovering from post holiday collapse..my brother is an archer Time btw.

Dh is looking after the children today - he has had two weeks off (which he claimed he spent cleaning and working). Two have been to a film and one for a hair cut.

Cleaning achieved.

Dusted tops of bedroom furniture
cleaned photo frames
cleaned loo and round it in our bedroom

Garden looking very lovely but it is a bit too tropical the weather for my liking. Had a virus for last two days in Eire, so rather frightened by all this talk of energetic preparations for new term on here Grin I need a holiday now from my exhausting experiences. Dh said we should all have this week "off".. I told him I was never taking all three on holiday by myself again Shock really was too much, although nice in parts..

knittingwithnettles · 21/08/2015 18:35

I think kids do feel at least as if they have been away though which is something and ds2 took lots of pictures of a beautiful lake/dd went riding once/ds1 walked quite a lot.

Glad to be back now though.

Exhausted. In bed.

Be back Monday. Have a good weekend everyone. ????

Knittingwithnettles. Hmmm. This make changing is really throwing my puny mind. Grin

elliepac · 22/08/2015 06:57

Morning all. Fabulous couple of days had here. Family day with DP and then GCSE results. Both my love life and professional career could have gone horribly wrong in the space of 24 hours but thankfully that did not happen. Results were good and massively improved upon last year (which were awful due to my illness). My classes did amazingly so I can breath again. Then dc's were at their dad's so spent the time with DP helping him move into his new place so i think that counts as flyingGrin.

Today is ds's birthday. Splitting this weekend with stbxh, so i have him until late this aft and we are going to a theme park for the day with a couple of his friends.

knittingwithnettles took some time to figure that out but Eire gave it away????.

Have a fab day everyone. Safe to say there will be no flying here.Grin

Toffeewhirl · 22/08/2015 12:55

Lovely to hear all your good news, ellie. I'm so pleased your class did well.

knitting - welcome back and well done on coping with the holiday. Sounds exhausting, but mostly good. And it does sound as if the DC enjoyed it.

Nettie - your comment about getting dressed for work made me smile Smile. Have a good weekend.

Felt achey and wrong yesterday. Woke up to a cold sore this morning Sad. I think it's end-of-holidayitis.

ta da

Took paracetamol with my tea
Answered some emails and did some proofreading
Breakfasts for DC, cats and myself
Unloaded and reloaded dishwasher
Put first load of laundry on
Got dressed
Won Battle of the Suncream with DS2
Waved off sulky DS2 with DH (out for a walk in the sunshine)
Finished tidying and wiping down kitchen
Hung first wash up
Put second load of washing on
Walked into town to do some chores
Home Brew

I really need to get ready for our trip to my mum's on Monday. Can't face ironing in this heat, though, so I think I'll pack all the stuff unironed and then do it at my mum's, if necessary. Also need to tidy up the house so my very tidy neighbour isn't too shocked when she comes in to feed the cats next week Blush.

Does anyone else pack up their car the night before they travel? We have always avoided it in case the car is broken into, but a friend was telling me how much easier it made her holiday prep and I wondered if the small risk of being broken into was really worth worrying about. I wouldn't pack anything valuable until the morning anyway, so it would only be our clothes and so on.

Right, need to drink tea and get on with stuff .

CantSee4Looking · 22/08/2015 15:14

I have been here. Mostly just sorting out the technology to do stuff that has been on my to do list that I haven't been bothered with Blush

decluttered my email - this took hours and hour and hours. Nice to see nice clean and tidy inbox though.

Building work is ongoing. Spring cleaning in the middle of it is on going, doing stuff with ds has happened.

The picture, however, pretty much sums it up.

August Birthdays and the Fledglings are a nattering
Toffeewhirl · 22/08/2015 16:06

Yep, I totally get that feeling, CantSee.

Nevertheless, I have been in a frenzy of cleaning activity today. And just now DS1 asked if I'd take him swimming and I was so amazed that he was actually ASKING me to take him out somewhere that I said yes.

Actually, it will be quite a relief to get in the water. Cleaning on a hot day is not to be recommended.

AsTimeGoesBy · 23/08/2015 09:01

We might pack the car the night before if we were setting off before about 7am, but not otherwise. Might put the roofbox on, but not pack it. Packing the car isn't what takes the time, it's getting all the stuff together in the first place for us, we nearly always self-cater/camp so it's more than just clothes and washbags.

AsTimeGoesBy · 23/08/2015 09:02

Welcome back Knitting, I've nc'd too. Can see this is going to get confusing!

Toffeewhirl · 23/08/2015 09:28

Am still planning my namechange - just when you think you know who everyone is, AsTime Grin.

Yes, agree, AsTime, that it's the packing that takes the time, but I quite like the idea of waking up and just getting in the car without lugging all the bags out first.

Bit of a disturbed night, thanks to DS1 thumping up and down stairs and an ungodly hour and waking us all up. DH is taking DS2 over to see his mum this morning, leaving me to pack, etc.

Oh, big news: DS1 came downstairs yesterday and said, "Can we go swimming?" Amazing! So now the boy who once couldn't leave his room is not only going out, but ASKING to go out. (We had a lovely swim, by the way, and he wants to go again).

Toffeewhirl · 23/08/2015 09:29

at an ungodly hour

AsTimeGoesBy · 23/08/2015 09:38

Also, we don't generally do most of the packing till the day we go unless we are going a long way.

CarpeJugulum · 23/08/2015 10:32

Morning folks! Two loads of washing out today so feeling virtuous.

No plans for flying otherwise, just planning to not strangle a never quiet DS [anger]

DBIL round later so he and DH will take DS off my hands in an attempt to get me to chill and try not to worry about tomorrow. I've managed to convince myself they're going to tell me it's cancer and untreatable. Sad I spent some time last night working out where my will is, and googling childminders for DH so DS will be sorted if/when. Morbid much?! Sad

Toffeewhirl · 23/08/2015 11:18

Oh, Carpe, how horrible to have those thoughts. Wishing you the best of luck for tomorrow. Thanks

CarpeJugulum · 23/08/2015 11:27

Yes. I'm pessimistic at best Sad. I like being in control so working out the worst case scenario is the best way I have of coping. Drives DH nuts and he tries to jolly me out of it, which actually makes me worse.

DBIL settles for occasional head pats and hugs (he has been helpful with DS in the last week so has had to know why I'm "broken") which is actually far better - he has tried explaining this to DH on my behalf, but DH just doesn't get it unfortunately.

threeislovely · 23/08/2015 11:57

Morning! Can't I totally empathise this morning! Had a gorgeous beach day yesterday and now facing several mountains of work - not sure which is the least attractive!!

To Dos

Reload laundry
Sew uniform labels
Work - too much to cope with - it has three lists of its own!!
Organise desk area actually looking like the least awful task
Sort beach stuff
Make nice lunch
Move books that didn't sell (might use as presents for grown ups!)
Move slow cooker
Move basket of car stuff
Iron

Toffeewhirl · 23/08/2015 11:57

Yes, I'm the same, Carpe. I have to seek out all the facts so that I'm prepared for the worst. DH should just leave you to cope in the way that suits you, but I'm sure he's trying to help, and he's probably just as scared as you are.

CarpeJugulum · 23/08/2015 12:58

Yes I know he is worried - which is the only reason I'm not sporting his "assets" as a lovely new necklace and earring set! Grin we just handle things differently.

Still DF & NSD-SM have left so I can stop being relentlessly chipper. I've done their towels and their bedding is in the machine so I can get it set for DBIL (as he's stopping over to watch DS tomorrow). It's too hot outside so ice lollies and grand prix for us and possibly a snooze

threeislovely · 23/08/2015 13:36

Right, I have been fairly productive on the work front which should ensure I still have a job!!

Ta Das

Organised my life for September
Written all plans and new tests
Reload laundry house now resembles Chinese laundry
Shopping (buying nice wine for dinner tonight with friends :) )
Sort beach stuff now just drying
Lunch - delegated to DP

To Dos
Blasted uniform labels
Desk area
Move books and slow cooker and basket
Ironing might leave this until something decent on TV!

But the sun is beginning to shine so may have to leave it all until another day!

CantSee4Looking · 23/08/2015 14:05

Had a lovely lie in this morning. Have burn out and issues with dust levels so it is hurting to breathe. Solution is to spring clean the dust out. Surprisingly hot in weather and I need more coffee in order to do this. Windows open for a blow through too I think. Tally ho...
